Frenchy Ball no, my parents have the Gambian accent and I don’t cause I came to the UK when I was young. We don’t sound Jamaican. It’s just a typical African accent but not like the Nigerian one.
Listening this interview gave me such a good vibe ? This man there is no lying about him . I see humbleness and kindness in his character. Never change . Protect your essence .
J hus is a bad man and I love his tunes proper British kid man rated bro , plus he's saying he grew up on grime noticed he's not saying I made grime good kid he's gona smash it for us uk manz 👊🏻🇬🇧🇬🇧👊🏻®® respect bro
I dont like the way she said "People are proud to be african!" What is she trying to get at? I feel sorry for anyone that does not feel proud to be African. The richest continent in the world!
Charmaine Appiah I'm east african myself. Why on earth is it embarrassing to be african? This is truly sad and shameful. In order for others to see africa in a good image, we have to start embracing ourselves first. May sound hella corny but its just facts.
Wynapse O for me I was never like them who did that. The way us and the uk present Africa in such a negative images of poor kids with flies up the noses and Red Nose Day. People didn't like that and the other kids who where from Jamaica (not all) didn't make it easy.
It's not Jamaicans fault for Africans being ashamed back then. The reality is some of us as Afro descendants to an extent were all ashamed and ignorant. We didn't want to be associated with that continent that the western media and world portrayed as being backward, poverty, disease ridden and hopeless among other things. Not everyone felt that way though. Some people knew better. Also if you look at the uk music scene grime especially there's loads of Africans involved right from the beginning so the idea that there was this great shame ain't really the reality.
Bavk then i didnt care i was african all day every day they used yo call me the africa girl but i cant denay my roots and where i was born to fit society.
Before the uprise of Afrobeats in 2012/2013 Africans claimed to be Jamaican because Jamaicans had/have a superiority complex against Africans. But thanks to Nigerians and Ghanaians things have changed. All of a sudden its cool to be African and everyone's proud.
Jake Dowling i was born n bred in England but i’ve got Nigerian blood in my veins n i’ve been raised w// Nigerian culture. Where ur born can’t take ur DNA away from u
Where is this noise that Africans were claiming to be Jamaican coming from? You can't tell an African when they speak? Besides Jamaicans (the black ones) are Africans. What are you talking about?
It's so interesting to see brotha in the UK have the same goal as we do here. They have gone through the same racist bullshit , but are rising above it just like us. just reminds me of the words of Marcus Garvey... Wether you are from Atlanta or Africa, Harlem or Haiti... We are all one people. Mad 💘 J Hus. Stay positive and, keep the music coming, brotha. I'll keep listening and supporting. One day they'll realize it's about content not color. One day they'll stop blaming our music for the violence we're all responsible for. Hang in there and, Mad 💘 from the U.S.
We need to bring the continent Africa back to its former glory...why am I gonna make money for the white man when I can go and fix my original country? And see my children grow up in their motherland and speak their mother tongue...
When I was growing up it was Cool to be from the West indies we had artist like shaggy etc that where in the charts - but then we had our turn and had a chance to step fwd show what Africa is about music wise .
I'm slightly befuddled at the bit at the beginning where J Hus is talking about Grime. Does he consider himself a Grime artist? I've always thought of him as a rapper and not an MC.
I remember when Stormzy came out and won a grime award I was baffled because I first thought of him as a rapper, but now I'd say he's a grime artist. But J Hus I ain't heard even one grime sounding thing from him, and I listen to quite a bit of his stuff because I rate him.
This was a great interview (not the interviewer shes shit) but it is beautiful how afrobeats and grime etc has allowed young Africans to be proud of their native countries ❤
I can listen to his interviews no cringe I like how he considers his answers. just dont say nigga on your music it remainds me of horrible american rappers
I came from the same generation as the interviewer, the being embarrassed about having an African background was a South London thing not an East London issue where J HUS is from. South London had a larger urban population of those from a Caribbean background, and because of that the urban youth used to pick on those those that were from an African background particular as all that would we see on TV about Africa involved poverty.
