    Good honest review Rick 👍 . We appreciate it . This Vortex Fury 5000 looks like a very good range finder .

    Assuming that you have you ballistic data trued up in the kestrel, can you true ballistic data for your specific shooting platform in the Fury’s? Could that be possible point of the discrepancy between the two?

  • @texas22jack89
    @texas22jack89 Před 2 lety

    Did you also input the wind on the fury? I saw that you had input an 11:30 wind @ 4mph. Which could explain the higher elevation on the kestrel.

    Great video Rick . That’s a very nice set up on the vortex binos. Is there a way you can adjust the binos like you can a kestrel? As far as the dfs

    One thing I have noticed with the 5000 ABs is it will give very likely give you a 0.0 hold if you range past supersonic. It has happened when I took my 6.5CM to 1785 and also while at Steel Safari at 1475. My Steel Safari load was only leaving at 2633.

      @@IY6C They served me very well at Steel Safari, but the calculation is a little slow. If you link them to the kestrel supposedly the binocs will calculate based on the profile selected in them and the kestrel will use the distance, shot angle and direction to calculate based on the profile in it. The Binocs will use the weather data from the kestrel for its calculations as they are more accurate than the built in sensors. So two rifles one range. I thought that might be useful at Team Safari. I wonder if the kerstal will produce results faster than the binocs.

    Great video Mr. R and yes stick to the RTFM method when getting to know a new gadget, after that you could, depending on your knowledge, get more in to the SWAG method (RTFM = Read The Fu..ing Manual VS, Scientific Wild Ass Guess) ;) Keep up your great work Sir.

    If there both running the AB software and all the parameters have been input the same, my question is why are they different?

    • @dinoc.5537
      @dinoc.5537 Před 3 lety +4

      One reason is you shouldn't assume the inputs are the same. He said he locked the Kestrel, but the Vortex is updating the weather inputs, so if that is true, it could contribute to the differences. You would have to test them both locked with their respective weather readings to find out.

    I have a Sig Sauer Kilo 3000 BDX bino-range finder, it connects right to my kestrel which also connects to the kestrel HUD on my gun. Literally point at the target and I have a solution shown on my rifle. The Vortex seems way too complicated. The difference in solution between the two is based on environmentals because its the same AB software. I guess If you want to ditch the kestrel all together, it is a good solution since a kestrel and the Kilo 3000 BDX combined cost the same. I can see for hunting how it could be great - only one piece of equipment. I personally like the kestrel because its easy to use as a calculator as well - especially if you have some strange stuff going on with wind and such.

    • @IY6C
      @IY6C  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes love my Kestrel as well. I don’t see it being more complicated just a new device to learn. I have a HUD also but don’t seem to use it for very much.

    • @sf2189
      @sf2189 Před 3 lety

      @@IY6C Yeah - you are right - I played with the Fury - the glass is awesome but since I like my solution and didn't want to pay so much for a new one, I probably shut my mind off. I started using the range card feature on the Kestrel and then onto the HUD - its not that its so much better than writing it down, it just made me focus a little extra when ranging and thinking about a stage. However if it broke, I dont think I would be terribly upset. If my kestrel did, thats a different story. Great review as always though!

      I realize the ballistics are better in the sig kilo but have you looked through the zeiss rf or geovid? I am not interested in a step down in bino optics. Just like mine too much. I'd bet a used zeiss or geovid would only be a few 100 more

    • @sf2189
      @sf2189 Před 2 lety

      As a mater of fact after getting a pair of Zeiss Conquest HDs - it was hard to look through the Kilos. I got rid of them and got a Terrapin X which is awesome and gives more info to my Kestrel.

    I don't understand why everyone is so hung up on a Kestrel. The wind measurements are only good for the current position of the measuring tool and does not tell you the wind speed 1000/2000 yards down range. The only way to do this is the old school way of learning to read the mirage using a spotting scope. Its not perfect but there is no way of knowing whats going on down range with a Kestrel.

  • @rkwjunior2298
    @rkwjunior2298 Před rokem

    I think this replaces the kestrel. But poeple are afraid to change.

  • @Liam-ql7tr
    @Liam-ql7tr Před 2 lety

    1000 yards will make the difference in humidity and heat would make a difference,,,, and that's not even including wind
    But they are both using the same software if everything equal they should be the same. So your input in your furry is has to be different.
