  • Kim Cattrall's character on Sex and the City was portrayed as a maneater. Cattrall scores a commercial plugging Pepsi One with the Chicago Bears. Hilarity, and a play on the Grimm 3 Bears fairy tale ensues.
Years later, Kim Cattrall is now hawking "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter".
Pepsi One was, to be quite frank, basically Coke Zero but from Pepsi and a decade ago. It used the relatively new sweetener Acesulfame Potassium plus Aspartame (NutraSweet) or Sucralose (Splenda). Pepsi One is closely related to Pepsi Max and in fact Pepsi Max existed before Pepsi One in several countries.
Pepsi One did okay in the market (in the US at least), and had a closer to sugar taste than Diet Pepsi. However, Coke brought out Coca-Cola Zero in 2005 and positively buried Pepsi One. Coca-Cola has taken off like a rocket, partially because of its less-diet taste and partially because it is marketed as "calorie-free" instead of "diet", offering a somewhat more "manly" profit compared to a diet drink.
Pepsi has responded by ramping up Pepsi Max and trying to position it as a diet drink that is acceptable to men. Pepsi has gone head to head, even using Coke Zero in their Pepsi Max ads.
This spot aired on FOX during a Sunday, January 14th, 2001 airing of The Simpsons.
