  • The classic group Tavares just finished hitting the stage for the Legends of Disco 2 hosted by Excitement World Wide. Robin Richie from Imagine That interviewed Tavares and was able to share their stories and history.
Tavares is an American R&B, funk and soul music group, composed of five Cape Verdean-American brothers. Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, they would later move to New Bedford, Massachusetts. They were inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014.

My family’s from Cabo Verde also and none of us can sing. Tavares have a heritable trait running through their genes. Their aunt Vickie was an excellent singer and the father also. This family’s talent was a remarkable gift and they developed it to the fullest and we should be grateful for their artistry.

Actually there are 7 brothers, Ralph ( who recently passed away) John ( AKA Funa) Chubby, Victor, Pooch, Butch and Tiny, but John isn't on any of their albums musically

Pooch is the one missing, he left the group some time ago due to health issues and Victor, who actually sings the lead vocals on the Album Check It Out , left the group after the album was finished, he left to pursue a solo career , but that was back in the early 70's , after Pooch became ill, Ralph whom had left the group during the 80's era became a Court Justice Security Guard, then later retired from that job and when Pooch became ill ( thank goodness he's doing much better now but haven't officially returned to the group) Ralph stepped in to make up for Pooch's departure, but Ralph Tavares recently passed away, and Victor is performing periodically from time to time but nothing actually permanent but he does plan on doing some more music in the very near future
