Soda Bread Recipe:
2 cups milk (I used almond milk)
2 tsp apple cider vinegar (add this to the milk to sour)
3 heaped cups flour (I use wholemeal spelt flour as it's high in fibre and easier to digest than plain)
1 tsp baking soda (I use aluminium free baking soda)
1/2 tsp salt (I use pink Himalayan salt)
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds (use whichever seeds you like)
1 tbsp sweetener (I used chicory root syrup)
Poppy seeds for sprinkling on top
Oven Temp: 180c or 350f for 35-45 mins (cooking time will depend on oven)

Hello all!
I thought it was only fitting to share my favourite soda bread recipe since I made some jam last week!
Who thinks bread, jam and tea can solve all the problems in the world 😁💜
The recipe is in the description box above.
Thanks for watching and have a magical week 💕🍄
Would love to learn the famous Irish Coffee authentic recipe from you. You are lovely! Love and light! 🌈❤✨
Being allergic, buckwheat is my go to flour. It was hard to find a good recipe.
What’s the weight of the flour? Cup sizes are different depending where you are in the world.
@@graciousme2258 usually a cup is 250ml
Yum...jam and fresh bread! I just picked blackberries for jam! And love hearing the birds singing at the end! Your hair looks lovely! Have a great week! 😊
I wanted to thank you for this recipe, and let you know I’ve been baking all our family bread with variations on this recipe. Even my hard-to-please toddler likes it for breakfast each morning. The current favorite is packed with cranberries, black currants, walnuts, and zest of an orange with half its juice. I slice it when it’s cooled, and freeze it right away, toast a slice as needed. You’ve upgraded our lives with this bread.
Niamh, I used sunflower and flax seeds (sesame seeds on top), the zest of one orange, and maple syrup as the sweetener. It turned out wonderfully! Thank you!
Hi Niamh. I have been watching your videos since quite sometime now and it helped a lot in the lowest phase of my life. Thank you so much for giving me that comfort.
I made this today with gluten free flour. It rose beautfully and was really delicious and so easy to make. Thank you, thank you!
Hahaha this morning I made soda bread .last year you gave me your recipe. Its different everytime
I use regular flour mixed with whole wheat, today it's new moon so did cranberry/ chopped walnut/ and fig from my garden. I cook mine in a covered glass bowl untill the last 15 min.also made a beautiful broccoli cheese soup and a peach pie.
Sending you new moon blessings from Peru
Hello Sharon
How are you doing.?
Yum!
Could you please share the recipe with the exact quantities???It will be my first attempt making soda bread and I want it to be perfect!!Thank you in advance!!!
@@fannytzilitoudi2940 hi
I am relieved to know that I am not the only one that doesn't care to deal with sourdough.
Looks inviting! Thanks for sharing ~ yes tea, bread and jam can solve loads of problems! ☺️
What a relaxing vibe...
Went online, looks like any gluten-free flour can be used, will let you know!! I do have power chain saws if it doesn't come out right!! LOL yep, my bread generally comes out that hard..going to give a go, fingers crossed..and toes..and eyeballs!! ha-ha
I’m thinking of trying almond flour, which gluten free variety will you try?
@@dawnmorants4180 Hello Dawn
@@dawnmorants4180 how are you.?
I need gluten free too!
I’m interested in how you got on with gluten free flour.
This makes me so happy! My Daughter and I make your ‘minimalist bread making’ soda bread ALL THE TIME. Can’t wait to try this recipe too 🍞 👩🍳👩👧
I love soda bread. I like to put crushed walnuts and dried cranberries in mine. I might have to make some tomorrow.
Your voice is so soothing.
Thank you for all the videos you make.🙏❤️
I was never successful with yeast bread. This is delicious and my first use of spelt flour. Thank you!
I love your teapot!! I frequently make your “Smashed Potatoes” especially now that potatoes are coming ready in the garden… so simple and tasty too. I am reading a book set in a hospital in Dublin during WWI and the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic. This book makes me realize that even tho’ times are tough during this Covid 19 Pandemic, we’ve got it pretty good compared to 1918. In this book they refer to eating War Bread. I assume this is the same as Soda Bread… maybe yeast was hard to get at that time, just like it was when the current pandemic began?? I enjoyed this little video today, thank-you for sharing your recipes Niamh. I love their simplicity and their successful results. 🥔🍞🌎💦Ⓜ️ary
@Carol Alex Hello Carol, the book I am reading is called “The Pull of the Stars” (by Emma Donoghue). It is historical fiction, set in a hospital in Dublin during WWI and the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic. It spans three days in a Maternity/Fever Ward during this time of war and disease. It follows the interactions of three women, a maternity nurse, a young volunteer, and a female doctor. I haven’t quite finished it yet, it’s been an easy read and also very enlightening. I’ve learned that we’ve got it quite good during this pandemic compared to the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. I hope this is helpful info… have a great day 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary📚
Hello Fairyland!
Going through a really rough time..lift me up in tboughts or prayers please.
O find myself only making in st. Patrick's day. Now I want to make a loaf. My grandmother's recipe had raisins and caraway seeds. To be it wouldn't be the same without those seeds. Thanks and have a beautiful day.
I made this yesterday- its so good. Toasted with jam - even better. I smashed up some cashews for the top. Considering I never remember to have eggs or yeast on hand, ever, I love that this bread doesn't need either. Also, no kneading? Truly the dreamiest bread. Thank you for sharing!
Making bread without having to Knead the dough. Sure i will try this recipe. Thank you!
Yum yummy yum 😋 this is soooooo good Nyamh thanks for sharing. Love to you and Terry🌺
I have a soda bread recipe adaptable to my bread machine. I love serving it with Irish beer stew. I love experimenting with bread recipes & make my own pizza dough.
I tried your recipe yesterday and it turned out wonderfully!! 🫖🍞😋
Thank you so much for sharing! 🧡💛
Love to hear that!! ✨💕
Both of my paternal great grandmother’s were Irish. My father speaks of them with a smile and tears. He loves soda bread but I haven’t made it in so long. I’m going to have to try this recipe. With golden raisins of course because that’s his favorite
Thank you so much 💛
I am in the throws of prepping some easy freezer meals, burritos ( breakfast and dinner), and freezing fresh sliced strawberries. Now I want to try this since I am already cooking!
I've baked soda bread when I ran out of ingredients for regular yeast bread. It's delicious
Made this just delicious thank you so much for your beautiful videos. It gives me that bit of peace and harmony in this busy life. Much needed 😊
Hi Niamh - this must be THE easiest bread recipe like, EVER. No yeast, or kneading or rishing! Amazing. Cant wait to try.
Hi from Australia! I made your Soda bread yesterday & it is delicious! Mine didn’t rise as high as yours. But never the less it was good...😍
You said that you are not patient enough to make sourdough bread. I made it years ago when I lived in the mountains. The first time I made it, was a hot summer day, and I had no air conditioning. I had the starter finished after a few days, and then I mixed up the dough (which made several loaves), and placed it in the pans, covered them and set them aside to rise. The recipe said it would take from 7 hours to 24 hours to rise. I sat down in my warm house and watched a movie. I got up about 90 minutes later, and saw that the heat had caused the loaves to rise to alarming heights! I baked all of them, and ended up with bread to eat for days, and some in the freezer! Lovely video as always, and I will be giving your recipe a try.
Hello!
not related to the bread,...which mountains where those? I always thought that the mountains have cool summers (and supercold-snowy winters)
@@anastrawberry8047 Southeastern Oklahoma. They were more like big hills with bad attitudes.
@@mamasaidno1749 , oh! Ok, hehe, I understand. 😉.
I'm in Spain, our mountains are cold.
Thanks!
The bread looks delicious. I want to get into cooking, especially minimal to zero waste cooking, and this looks like something I could definitely do! Plus, you're so relaxing to listen to that I would just love to spend my day making this bread while you give me comforting, step-by-step instructions on how to do it.
Good morning from New York, grandma Mary always made Irish soda bread, thanks for the recipe. I always learn a lot from your videos, thanks!
Good morning everyone .hope the weekend was good. Wonderful easy recipe 😊 I love makeing soda bread ive been makeing it 16 years since i 1st meet my husband. I make mine with currents or cranberries ❤ i also make soda bread pudding. In the fall . With pumpkin 🍊
Thank you kindly for sharing. 🌸 it’s way too hot in Florida to bake ANYTHING …
A wonderful video!! Thank you so much! A quick comment: I don't think baking soda ever has aluminum (it's just sodium bicarbinate). The thing that we have to watch out for aluminum in is baking powder. That often has sodium aluminum sulfate or sodium aluminum phosphate.
My grandmother always added raisins and caraway seeds. I still make it, topped with butter and enjoyed with tea.
I love soda bread! I'll have to try this recipe.
If you're off ferments as I am, fresh lemon juice works as the souring agent also.
I'm going to give a gluten-free version a go also, with cassava flour! Thanks for the recipe!
Cassava definitely did not work!
Currently having homemade jam and bread while watching 💕
Oh my goodness, i made my first soda bread today. Using your recipe including the pumpkin & sunflower seeds, but used Wholemeal flour half cows milk and half almond milk.
I had two ripe bananas that just had to be used. So I thought ’why not try your soda bread.’
I used extra 1/2 cup flour & milk to allow for the addition of the two chopped bananas. Oh and my homemade sultana vinegar to sour the milk. Oh and a cut cross to help cook the middle.
The results are two lovely crunchy crusted loaves with moist inner bread. 🌼💛🌻
Ohh sounds delicious! I never tried bananas!
I plan on Babi getting a loaf of your Irish bread. Thank you for your recipe 😊❤️
Just having my first taste of the bread I made using this recipe, it's delicious. Thanks for the recipe Niamh!
That bread looks tasty I’ll try making that
I love watching your videos while enjoying my dinner. And today I have my own loaf of bread cooling down on a kitchen table :-) I created my own soda bread recipe that is just as easy as yours and always turns out perfect. Instead of milk I use beer and no vinegar. It makes the bread light and fluffy even if I use 100% rye flour. Sometimes I use 50% rye and 50% buckwheat. The bread is never heavy or wet. And it's almost gluten free. And I just love spelt flour for any sweet baking, cookies, cakes and even pizza. Yummy.
loving your videos going back and looking over existing things beautiful videos, so friendly calming, soothing and lovely irish accents and music amazing editing and so much nourishment , peace and happiness from simple and less things
I just love bread. I just pulled a loaf of sourdough out of the oven. It’s a long process making the sourdough bread but I love the ritual of it and there is nothing like having fresh bread Greetings from Virginia!!
You’ve inspired me, I think I’ll be making bread tomorrow! 🇦🇺
Hello Susana
How are you doing.?
Will deff try it, thank you for sharing. 🙏🏻
I was literally just thinking about bread recipes haha and I never made bread before!!! Ill try this
Hello pear

Gotta try this then on one afternoon prepare with jam and tea and enjoy the garden. ✨🍵🌺
Thank you for sharing, my friend! Have a wonderful week!
This recipe is phenomenal!
Thank you! I always have some of your soda bread on hand, and I appreciate the different ways it can be made, with water or milk, with one cup of liquid or two, etc. :)
That is so easy I’m gonna have to get my silicone pan and get started oh and by the way your hair is so pretty it’s getting so long enjoy the video thank you I’ll see you next week
I just made this bread for the first time, using honey as a sweetener. It’s so quick, easy and tasty!
I had a bag of spelt flour that I hadn’t tried yet. So, I made this recipe today. I was very pleased with how it turned out. Thank you!
Lovely! Thank you for sharing.❤️
Believe it or not, last year my husband and I had soda bread for the first time. It was so delicious. The one we ate had some kind of berry in it like cranberry or currants. I'm definitely going to try this recipe. Thank you.
As always, a beautiful start to our Sunday..........a soothing video from Niamh! That bread looks so delicious, I can almost smell the aroma from here in New Jersey! Love and light to you Niamh. 🌿
Just made the bread! Thank you for sharing this ridiculously EASY bread! Super delicious 😍
Definitely going to try this one tomorrow and give my feedback!
I tried it, and it turned out AMAZING! I used 1 part of spelt flour, 1 part of all-purpose flour and 1 part of oatmeal flour which I ground myself. Worked like a charm! Where have you been my entire life?
Thank you for making things seem so simple. I’ve never made bread but with that simple recipe, I might try. Blessing 🙏🪶🦋
Thank you 😊 I can’t wait to try this. Have a great day 🌻
I’m so pleased you shared this as I’ve been meaning to search through your videos to pick out your soda bread recipes - now I don’t have to!
Hello Catherine
How are you doing.?
That looks yummy! I should make one. See you in the next video 😁😁😁
Yum. Will definitely try this. TFS 💜
Thanks for sharing the recipe.💚
Thank you for sharing! I make your older recipe from a previous video, very often. So I am excited to try this one! Thanks for making my Sunday’s more relaxing. 🌸 🍃
Can’t wait to try this. Thanks for the recipe and the video. 💖
Nice, you just motivated me to make fresh jam with the strawberries we picked and froze in June. I will try this bread during the week. Looks so good.
Yum! Simple and quick recipes are the best! Thank you! 💚
Also, my teenage daughter has been struggling with her hair drying out and becoming frizzy. She has biracial hair and it has gotten very long. We started using your flax seed gel/hair mask a week ago and she loves it. It hydrates and defines her curls and best of all, it is chemical free!
Also, she should leave her conditioner in, even if it's a rinse-out one. Read the book "Curly Like Me" by Teri LaFlesh. You can get it on Amazon.
@@camjamcam1, her hair is 2c/3a. As a teenager she has been messing with her hair more, example brushing it more than she used to. So we switched to a wide tooth comb. We switched to a shampoo/conditioner bar that is supposed to be for her hair type about a year ago as we wanted to get away from plastic bottles as much as we can. I'm wondering if she washes her hair too often as well? She washes it twice a week. I'm thinking we should try once? We have used Cantu leave in conditioner since she was 8, but that was never a great product for her either. Currently we do a flax seed hair mask once a week (she leaves it in for 2 to 3 hours while she is watching a movie) then rinses it out. In the mornings, she sprays her hair wet and applies the flax seed gel. It keeps her waves/curls defined all day. The frizz is gone, which she is so happy about. I also used to put her hair in a protective style at least once a year and this last year and a half I just haven't. Usually she has box braids in for 2 months. So, that has been different recently as well. I'm not gonna lie, I just haven't been able to motivate myself to sit on the couch for 8 hours this year. No matter how many CZcams videos I watch, I can't seem to get any faster at it! I appreciate any and all suggestions!
@@melissaoleary8196 It sounds like you've been a giving and diligent mother who is willing to learn about your daughter's hair type! I do suggest reading that book I mentioned, especially for the philosophy of it. Perhaps you can borrow it from your library? Also, ensure that your daughter combs her hair WHILE WET only, and preferably when it has loads of conditioner in it since her hair has got some curliness; the procedure is the opposite of what it is for straight hair. If she is 2c/3a, it's more wavy than curly. If you can locate a natural bulk store that has moisturizing conditioner, you could potentially bring your own glass jar and fill it (I have a store like that near me). A conditioner bar is another option (sans the shampoo component) ; there's (often) no plastic packaging. Something I've done is melt down the conditioner bar in water on a low heat. You can then pour this liquified version into your chosen jar. And, of course, flax gel is a wonderful, natural, daily part of her regime as well.
@@camjamcam1, thank you for the info. I will check out that book. Part of her hair is in an "s" wave and parts are more in a spiral curl. I did learn early on about only combing when wet. Thank you again!
@@melissaoleary8196 You're welcome, Ms. O'Leary. Good luck!
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I can’t wait to try making it!
Enjoy if you make!!
I am so excited to try this today 😃 I have a bread machine but this looks just as simple and I can brag that I made it myself 😁
I have tried a few recipes for soda bread. This looks sweet and simple. I'll try it thanks. Yup I love bread a d jam. It does calm the world
I've been wanting to start making bread instead of buying it and also to give me something fun to do in lockdown so this is perfect! I'm excited to try it this weekend.
Will be making this one! Happy that I have all the items I need in the pantry. Thank you!
That looks really easy! I’m trying it! Thanks 🙏 🙏🙏

Looking forward to trying out this recipe! Thanks Niamh 🌼
I wasn’t planning making bread today. Actually I have never made bread before, but I’m going to give it a try right now! 😬 I’m out of bread so I might as well give it a try.
Thank you 😊 for sharing your bread 🍞 recipe! It looks so delightful! Can you do a video on making homemade jam? You mentioned it here, and I thought 💭 that would be a lovely video to see. Well, have a fantastic day!
Looks good! I'll try making once the heat let's up as it's too hot to bake now.
Hello my dear friend 😀
Thank you that's just what I needed today...a taste of home
Thank you for Soda Breads! I had never heard about them before I found your channel last year and the whole family loves them. We still bake traditional bread with sour dough or yeast but Soda Breads are in the oven at least once or twice every week.
I’m going to make this for my Irish hubby today - thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing!
Soda bread or buns are a great option, if you have little time for baking. But I also love my sourdough breads. It's true, you need a lot of time and patience and the right "feeling" for the sourdough. But it's totally worth it. These breads taste amazing. It took me over a year figuring out how to bake with sourdough! 😉 ...by the way: spelt flour contains the highest amount of gluten. Anyway, thanks a lot for this relaxing video. 🌷🍀
I enjoyed.

Made this today for the first time, absolutely wonderful! I used unbleached flour and chopped walnuts instead of sunflower seeds since I had that available and it turned out great! I won't be buying bread any more, I have been looking for an easy, tasty, inexpensive bread recipe and this one is definitely it! I hope you and Terry are doing well on your hiatus and had a lovely Holiday!
Ah I’m delighted to hear that Lisa!
You won’t look back. We haven’t bought bread in years!
Will be making this this week! Thanks for sharing ☺️ Hope everyone has a wonderful week ❤️
Good morning. I am going to make my grocery list this morning and add the soda bread ingredients. Home bread is the best. My grandmother always made us homemade bread. Very good memories.
Thank you so much. Have an awesome week!
