    Wow! I got a notice from the Paris Olympic 2024 app talking about Men's Kite Sailing and had to look it up!! This is awesome!

    As a kitesurfer its very sad that the only kite sport chosen for the olympics is a niche of the sport that less than 1% of all kitesurfers do. Regular wakestyle, wave og big air is so much more kitesurfing and much more spectator likeable. It looks to me like sailing people have too much to say in the olympics...sad

      @@user-ry5tn9cr7u I think the reasoning behind it is they stopped adding sports that the audience can't understand. Think figure skating, floor gymnastics, etc. the difference between one performance and another is basically subjective. Things like racing are much easier to understand for spectators. The fastest person wins.

      Wakestyle is practiced by almost nobody and has quality spots globally that you can count on a few hands.
      I think it’s more likely that winging becomes an Olympic class than any sort of style based kite.

      Nope. Gold medal winner Ellie Aldridge is much lighter than Silver winner Lauriane Nolot. You can see she was on a 15 meter kite and Lauriane was on a 21 meter kite in the final, which is a big difference in power. But it comes down to technique

    How long does a single race generally run for? I know they run 4-6 in a session, for what it's worth.

    How do they avoid tangling up?

    • @Milkshakes-Den
      @Milkshakes-Den Před měsícem +4

      Similar to all sailing events, it’s a mix between right of way rules (who should duck below and avoid) and being reasonable enough to duck your kite to avoid people in front of you.

    • @loskiff
      @loskiff Před měsícem +2

      Usually they don’t. In this kind of races it is common to see tangles happening because of people not wanting do let go: so instead of losing a position the two involved get passed by everyone

      I think weight makes a big difference in foil speed. The heavier you are the faster you go. They also pump the foil with their legs to get more speed.

    • @D3moknight
      @D3moknight Před měsícem +4

      @@joshk94 Also stronger legs can hold more power down, so the men can use bigger kites in higher winds while having the same resistance through the water as the women.

      The lift to drag ratio is way higher on the ram air kites than inflatables. With the hydrofoil you go way faster and using those ram air kites is much nicer as they fly closer to the edge of the wind window.
