That mold-effect is astoundingly realistic. Looks exactly like the patch we found on our wood floor when we moved the aquarium.
That's why I always recommend finding reference photos. It can help fill in the blanks and guarantees the best outcome.
Thaat's not good. That black mold is bad news.
And that paint was so realistic looking it was gross.
@@ViQRoy89 Luckily it wasn't a large patch & we were able to take care of it right away. Aquarium now has TWO moisture barriers under it.

I did an internship at a Hollywood Art Dept. decades ago and was taught a similar technique but using Rubber cement. The finish result was more like the dried, crackling, exterior worn out paint you find on abandoned houses.

@@nriqueog As I recall, you paint the final layer over the rubber cement, before the cement fully cures. Then as the cement continues to dry it cracks the paint.
@@DoktorHalloween So you lay down a layer of acrylic paint, let it dry THEN add a layer of rubber cement over that AND then another lay of acrylic paint over before the cement fully cures. THANKS!
Then when everything is dry you add your weathering on top.

Here is what I recall: You can do whatever you like below the rubber cement. Raw wood, stained wood, paint, etcetera. When what you have below the rubber cement is cured you can begin the cracking process. Apply a layer of rubber cement. Let it begin to cure, and BEFORE it cures, paint on a layer of acrylic paint. As the paint and rubber cement cure together the paint will crack. I may have something incorrect on this. If you find I got it wrong, please update me here.
There are specialty paint manufacturers for "the industry" which produce paints that crack. Modern Masters may be one of those companies.
Also, Hollywood Haunter here on YT did a demonstration of cracking paint, some years ago.

Man, close to the cracked paint effect but better in a different way. I used mustard on my custom car paint to mask and peel, worked pretty well. I recommend taking a picture before so you know where to peel after.

I could imagine if you use spray glue on the surface before peeling the latex paint off, you could catch some of the debris and create so another layer of effect.
Absolutely. The paint I used was old and chunky, which definitely added to it as well.
Makes it look like a earth with water and continents etc...

Gah! You are amazing!! I jus quit my job as a Trader Joe's sign artist after 13 years and my new gig is requiring more painting and weathering/rusted/peeling techniques so your videos literally came at the perfect time. Today was my first day on the new job and I got lucky enough to come across you on CZcams after literally decades of trying to find really helpful distressing videos. Distressing in a crafty way, haha. I'll be painting the interior of a cafe that will look like an abandoned, slightly post-apocalyptic gas station circa 1942ish.
is it an actual functioning cafe with a post apocalyptic theme? that sounds so cool!! if you don’t mind my asking where is it, def want to check it out!!
I think it’s going in a pretty subtle direction design-wise. I still haven’t even got to painting yet, they’re still working on plumbing and electrical. It’s also a secret until it opens but I’ll keep ya posted!

That liquid latex bottle was fantastic! The technique, minus the texture step, would make for a diabolical prank. Beautifully painted surface one moment…. Next look a masterfully peeling mess!
Right?! It was the most affordable and coolest looking bottle. So double win!

Been trying to find some idea on how to do this for weeks!! Thank you for this. Question though: I'm going to be shooting in a fairly large building that has long hallways. I'm not going to be able to do anything to the walls. I was thinking about using foam core the putting the foam core over the real walls with your tutorial. How would you do this for a large area?
This is great, I am trying to weater at least one to two walls in my apartment for a short film I'm shooting at the end of the month that should mimic water damage, mold and possibly water bubbles. Is there a way to get this effect to a solid color removable wallpaper then add it on to my walls?

Have you ever tried a double layer of this technique? It might be cool to see a peeling "repaint" effect over a paint over a rust...
Thank you for this video. Was much required. Need little clarification. After I paint the wall effect or art which I wish to seen when peeled off, what was the white paint like you applied 2nd last and for what?
I’m not sure I understand which part you’re asking about, but I’ll give my best guess. the white liquid that was applied before the solid blue color is liquid latex. Its purpose is to create a removable barrier between paint layers.

It’s wall/ceiling texture spray.

Many hardware stores carry it. It's typically in the paint department.

Can i do this on foam board? I tried and the first layer of paint peeled off too which cause the original foam color to show lol
Probably not. The nature of foam board would probably keep it from working.

very beautiful!! but did not teach me what kind of paint to put down all over before my acrylic paint, then layer acrylics, then another kind of paint to create cells when blowing on it(usually black or white to create cells) then dries and you PEEL it off after drying and use it for projects... seen it once and now can't find the tutorial and NOONE knows what I'm talking about.. it might've been a Tammy Anderson video..
