The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, also known as Nintendo Classic Mini is a miniature replica of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) video game console by Nintendo. It was released in North America November 11th 2016.

It's really a matter of preference. All of my favorite NES games are on the Classic Edition, so I definitely want one.

Yes welcome to the world of NES hard. That's one of the cool things back in the day, even if you were playing a 1 player game like Zelda 2, Ghosts and Goblins or Castlevania, you could have a room full of your friends and pass the controller around when you die. It was just as fun to watch your friend beat a hard level as it was to do it yourself back then.

What is amazing, that besides the connector issues with the original nes 001, is how robust all the equipment is. The controllers especially.

I'm so happy that I got this for Christmas! I've wanted one so badly ever since I heard about it from my dad. I never realized that my parents had went out and bought one just for me on the day of its release. They just kept it and decided to hide it until Christmas. When I opened it and saw the NES logo I nearly flipped out because I was so happy.

Nintendo missed a great opportunity, because they could have put all the games on one cartridge and we could have insert the games just like on a real Nes.

i got lucky enough to find 2 of these after they were discontinued at my local Walmart, i kept one and gave one to my dad because he grew up with the Nintendo

I love how they keep fighting over the console (keeps switching hands) while talking about it. It's like instinct to want to hold it because it's so cool.
To be clear, the NES Classic Edition has 512 MB of internal flash storage, and 256 MB of RAM. RAM is not used for storage. The entire collection of US-released NES games, uncompressed, is smaller than 128 MB, meaning you could fit the entire library on the device four times over.
Also, the Micro USB port on the back is only wired for power, so you could not add more games to it from here, at least not without some heavy modification to the device. If you were going to do that, it would probably be easier to just take the internals out entirely and wire up a Raspberry Pi within the case. With that said, it does seem just feasible that Nintendo could release additional games for the device to be directly loaded onto the console through the controller ports, if the operating system has the capacity to support it. But it seems unlikely that this would happen, as Nintendo is undoubtedly aware that hackers would almost certainly be able to reverse-engineer this type of technology to create a means of loading illegally obtained ROMs onto the device.
Watching them fight over who was gonna hold it was the best part of this video.

RetroUSB AVS is awesome, 100% compatibility, and fantastic extra sprites option which remove problem with stuff dissapearing from the screen when lot of stuff is going on (technodrome level in TNMT)

I've heard the sad news that the NES Classic Edition is going be discontinued by the end of April. That means this little itty bitty console is going to be worth a lot of money. By the end of summer, this can be worth thousands of dollars.

They released the exact same thing again. Before it became scarce I had a chance to buy it, I've passed, after the release of SNES Classic, I've bought it, and was avare of why it's good. So this time I've picked it up. And I'm happy with it. Not as good, but still fun.

Everyone complains about the length of the cord, but you need to have the console close to you to get back to the menu, so best off to just buy a really long HDMI instead of buying the extension cables.

JSB_Music*Gaming Not at all. someone had posted on facebook a list of walmarts that got some in and one of the walmart's was close by where I live so I called to see and they had 10 of them so I lucked out and got one lol.
The SNES Classic Mini is definitely an improvement because of it including games that have yet to be released on the Virtual Console such as "Star Fox 2".
Both are worth owning IMO, especially after you mod them to include EVERY game from both console libraries.

Maybe I'll catch one that made it's way over here to Portugal. To my understanding, it just plugs into the TV and has 30 complete Classic games. It would be fantastic to go around and have this, because of It's size, it becomes very mobile to bring from place to place.

It should have had Rad Racer. That is my favorite NES game and Nintendo owns the rights to it. Also, Bionic Commando, Rygar, Gun.Smoke, Pro Wrestling should be there. Although, I would go with Adventure Island II over Adventure Island because in part 2 you can ride dinosaurs.

You can add like 5 or 600+ games on the NES classic mini, how? If you got a pc atleast you can download certain software for it and get al those from the internet box art included! There are a lot of tutorials on youtube about it.
i understand it's a nice chrismas gift for a nostalgic casual player, but let's be honest; an hardcore old-school gamer can easily have the entire NES virtual-library with few investment.
I can understand why DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Ranger aren't on the NES Classic, it's because they had already been re-released on PS4 as "The Disney Afternoon Collection."

The NES version of Contra has only been rereleased twice. Once for the PC in 2002, and once as a part of Contra 4. I don't know why, but there's definitely a reason why it's never been released on Virtual Console. Whatever that reason is, it's also what's keeping it from being on the NES Classic.

I bought a TG16 game about a month back from Classic Game junkie. Really cool store with lots of old consoles in boxes around the top of the walls.
I find it funny that people are impressed with how small this thing is when we have Raspberry Pi's which are a lot smaller more capable, and have been out for years now.
