Everyone I know who started playing guitars did it with an acoustic because they didn't have a knowledge about electric guitars, building those confidences more broad after and after then they switch for an electric guitar to more improve their skills.

I started with an electric guitar that costing about less than $100. Altho I'm lacking of chords knowledge, I am into different scales. But yea, sharing my exp, doesn't change you where you started, in the end, we are all guitarists with different styles.

I say start on the acoustic first…IF:
You plan on singing and playing with chords.
Other positives to getting acoustics first:
    1. is you will be more drawn to rhythm style playing with an acoustic first. This imo will help you when you get to an electric.
    2. You can pick the thing up and play anywhere without an amp as stated. (I have an electric and I find myself picking up the acoustic more just for that simplicity).
    3. If you get an electric acoustic and have a decent acoustic amp or pedals (limited) you can mimic clean electric guitar pretty well. (Such as chorus, delay, reverb and other special effects).
    4. For singers, no microphone needed when playing an unplugged acoustic. Try singing over an electric.
First time buying an acoustic recommendations:
    1. If you plan on eventually plugging in for the special effects then get the electric-acoustic. For a solid top and part laminate they’re pretty cheap.
    2. If you don’t care about electronics whatsoever then get a non electric and non cutaway type. (Most non electrics don’t have a cutaway)
    3. Get a cutaway type if you plan on learning higher note lead and bends. This can get you close to having the electric guitar feel.
    4. For singers, the Cutaway vs Non Cutaway has a slightly different sound difference. I think my voice sounds better with the cutaway. Different for for each person on which better suits them.
    5. Younger or smaller frame players start with a shorter scale and smaller bodied guitar. (The size of the guitar may desired to be changed if you are singer and find you need a different one to better fit your voice…for some)
    6. ELECTRIC OR ACOUSTIC…1st time buying go in a store and purchase where you can test out and have a tech properly set it up for YOU.
    7. Find one that best fits YOUR hands and YOUR fingers! For the best playability.
    8. Start off with as light of gauge strings as you can get.
    9. Again for singers: If you’re like me you will find yourself wanting to get rid of your first several acoustics to eventually find the one(s) that sound best with YOUR voice.
If you know that you LOVE distortion and exotic sound effects and want to play more notes and leads vs chords then the electric is better suited for you first. Till and if you acquire a tast for an acoustic. My .02

I started learning guitar playing with cheap acoustic guitar. Few years ago, I was able to buy my first electric guitar (used), amp, and multi-fx pedal after years of saving up from my paychecks. Major differences based from my experience; *Acoustic* builds fretting hand dexterity due to high string tension/action and the pick-n-play factor while *Electric* gives you more freedom on frets/notes (some acoustic guitars doesn't have the cutaway for higher fret access), easier string bends and vibrato, and you can model the tone/sound the way you like based on the effects you have. In the end, enjoy playing whichever you have. Apologies if I just repeated some of Sir Perf's explanations.

I started back many years ago then on acoustic because it was cheap. That is the first thing your parents can buy because "pwede na yan", "eto lang budget natin" or "ok lang yan baka pagsawaan mo rin pagtagal". I was a proud owner of a guitar from our neighborhood Sta. Mesa. I have also acquired before those guitar that a guy sells on the street. I jokely refer them as "sunburst", kapag naarawan pumuputok yung kahoy (extreme heat will burst the wood). 😂

I figured it all out. Electric Guitars are the easiest to play because their smaller in size, the strings are lighter gauge, action is lower (which means barre chords are easier this way), & they have labeled controls. Lots of companies had a bright idea of Acoustic Guitars with an Electric Guitar feel to facilitate playability.

I started with acoustic in a 13 gauge string and back then I never knew a smaller string gauge is an option until I replaced my string and bought a set from the store. I went home and unknowingly installed a 10 and to my surprise, 10's and 9's are way easier for my thin skin that hasnt developed calluses yet. Lol
Then thats how i discovered string gauges and actions.

tthen 5 years later i got my 1st electric guitar an RJ flying V
and i connected it with guitar rig 4 for less expenses for gears haha i only made 1/4 jack to 3.5mm converter for my desktop computers and a sound card for my laptop
then 2 year ago i got my stratocaster SKL haha

Some Electric Guitars have built in amps such as the Vox Apache. What if there were Guitars that had the Pros of both an Acoustic & an Electric Guitar combined into one instrument. There are already Acoustic-Electric Guitars. They have the advantages of both Guitars cause they're very very versatile. There are also Classical Guitars which are basically Nylon String Acoustic Guitars that in a way feel like Electric Guitars. That's because the strings are made out of Plastic & are easier for the fretting hand. Willie Nelson played a Nylon String Acoustic-Electric in country music because he loves its mellow sound.

Learn to play a few songs with other people's guitar. Just give them a favor as payback. Pag may pera ka na, go to the store and feel which one feels comfortable and you can afford. In the end you are going to have to buy both...

If youre an older guy like 20+ above i highly suggest go acoustic, If youre 13+ go for electric, if your a 1 digit age go for classical/acoustic will do. Hahahahaha! Just kidding. Some of my friends are like this, the older and youngsters started with an acoustic, and majority of my teenage friends back then started electric. Even my dad who is old started playing acoustic. But all in all its about music preference. If youre about metal and rock, blues etc go electric. If youre really into acoustics go acoustic. But me personally i started acoustic even tho im a metalhead since then. By starting acoustic youll know more about the "basics" like how guitar really works, for example , Wonderwall by oasis, If youre a non guitar guy youll be fascinated how cool and how guitar goes on with the beat (Strumming)

Sir perf. May tanong po ako medyo taliwas s topic s video.
Napansin ko po na medyo mahina po kasi ung pickup ng tunog sa gitara ko mula nung nagpalit ako ng strings. Medyo flat and mahina ung tunog na lunalabas sa amp. Is it because of the strings po ba or sa pickup? Napag alamn ko din made in china ung binili kong string kaya naisip ko na baka fake lang talaga pero naiisip ko din baka may sira sa pickup or may mali sa set up ko. Thank you poooo.

Most probably yung string mo hindi compatible sa pickup ng gitara mo kaya mahina ang output. Check the old and new kung plastic or alloy yung nut ng string mo then compare which will sound better, then yung ang hanapin mo the next time na bibili ka ng strings.

Kabit ka muna ng mas maayos na strings bago mo pag-isipang sira ang pickup.
