    I love how you put so much effort into adding the stop motion to your video, I appreciate the time and effort that you put into adding that little bit of detail that I think really pays off in the final version of the video. I can only imagine how long it must take to not only mix the fondant but do all the stop motion that goes with it, I’m sure there’s little room for error without having to redo the mixing all over again.

Its ridiculous the level you go to to produce these videos, but very much appreciated!

    • @norma6696
      @norma6696 Před 5 lety +48

      Lauren Jones It was the camera. During the stop motion part you could see that it was a much brighter red.

    • @timfrey2358
      @timfrey2358 Před 5 lety +11

      most color does this, it's called a warm red, because it's leaning toward orange. colors are entirely perceived by how our eyes perceive light reflected off surfaces, none of them are ever really a perfect primary color, and it's very hard to achieve, and even if you do, people tend to see an off color and not exactly what you see. Also computers and cameras don't relay colors exactly, they only relay the reflection of light onto the recording, and our eyes have to complete the image when we look at that rendition, with only that light and any light in that room as reference, but also including the blue light mixed in from our phones and screens and any surrounding light or sunlight, and thats a lot of light reflecting off one image into our eyes, there's almost no way it's the exact color she was seeing, to her it's probably not nearly as orange until she attempts to mix it with cyan. A lot of people will argue that a very reddish orange is totally red, because they just don't catch the subtle difference with their eyes and they can't see a difference that minute, but some of us can. The red is red, but it's a very warm red that leans orange instead of true neutral red which would be very hard for people in factories mass producing it to achieve, they probably went with whatever was the easiest and closest to a vibrant red in quality control, and didn't care if it leans orange and can't make purple with blue since blue leans away from orange in all cases. Also why you can't mix it into cuan, a green blue color, and get purple, it's like mixing orange with green.

    • @Luischocolatier
      @Luischocolatier Před 4 lety +8

      It really is an orangish-red. She said that you can't obtain red with the food colorings unless you buy it but that's not true. If you mix yellow and magenta in more or less equal amounts you should have a pretty decent red. Keep in mind this video uses the same colors as a printer: CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key for black) so if your printer can make red so can you! The rest is just some experimenting. Take this as a reference for more or lees equal amounts of each:
      Cyan and Yellow make green
      Yellow and Magenta make red
      Magenta and Cyan make blue
      If you want to make purple you just add a bit more magenta to the blue. If you want to make orange you just add a bit more yellow to your red. That's how color theory goes in painting and printing.

    It would be so hard to mix in the bag, it would take so much longer.. if you are really concerned about colour getting on your hands, you can always use gloves. The colour will wash off your hands anyway..
    I find it way easier working with _anything_ with your hands. It is easier and way faster.
    But apart from that this video was amazing! Saving alot of errors and wasted time!

    I thought the fading was due to a loss in moisture, but light sensitivity makes so much sense. I use Americolor gel colours and I noticed the True Red and Forrest Green colours fade - I'll mix it, roll it, finish my cake, and come back later to a duller, paler cake. If you're putting a sheen coat over the fondant it brings the colour depth back, but you can't have a matte finish at that point.
    I never thought of flavouring fondant, I've been making marshmallow fondant from scratch (ie, melting gelatin and sugar, blending to fluffy marshmallow texture then adding powered sugar) to control the flavour, but mixing peppermint essence into fondant is such a great idea.
    If you have a little leftover you can just roll it into little balls and once they dry you have homemade sugary breath mints!

    Yeah that "red," is definitely more orange than red, which is why it made that brown colour with the blue (when complimentary colours mix they make that grey/brown colour).
    And I thought I'd point out that a primary red (not the store bought/ready-mixed stuff) would make a purple, which is why the pink works better. Oh btw, loved the video! That stop motion must've taken ages 😂.

      @@gimygaming8655 Primary red is more of a pink. Vermillion probably is the standard red you'd normally think of, again more orange than red. No clue how blue isn't a primary colour though, obviously the normal primary colours are blue, red and yellow, and the primary colours of light are blue, red and green (light works differently to physical colours, if that makes any sense? Like red light + green light = yellow light, but if those were paints it would just be brown because they're complimentary colours).

    The reason why red doesn't make purple with cyan is because cyan isn't blue. Pink is to cyan as red is to blue, which is why pink works
    I would still use pink and cyan as your base colors though, they're brighter and more pigmented so you'll have less of a chance to get a muddy color. Or maybe there's another reason why Ann recommended them instead. I know how colors work on paper but not fondant 😅

      @@ragnkja Theoretically you should be able to, in paints it works. Maybe it's hard to get a true red when mixing pigments?

    • @Bunny-ch2ul
      @Bunny-ch2ul Před 5 lety

      There are a number of reasons red doesn't really work, for mixing, or why it's difficult to get an attractive bright or deep pink with red coloring.
      1. Most red dyes skew towards brown. Adding brown tones to red makes it look richer and like what we think of when we think red. Most things that look like a super intense red have strong hints of other colors.
      2. You want to mix colors with the same intensities. When people think of a primary yellow they think of Big Bird or canary yellow. When they think of a primary blue they usually think of something a shade or two lighter than royal blue. Royal blue and canary yellow aren't really the same intensity as red, even if it's a pure red. Magenta is roughly that intensity.
      There are other reasons, but those two are the simplest.
