    Why aren’t you alternating your hands when you tie your knots? Your knots for sure aren’t square if you’re only tying in one direction.

      Good observation. True. I am not squaring up the knot. Since it is a knot that is outside the body the only requirement is that it hold. When actually doing it in surgery on a nylon, I would usually throw about 6 knots and I always make sure the loop knot won't slide before I wrap it around the drain and tie it. If it were a subcuticular or a deep dermal stitch I would definitely square it. There are times in the body when a slip knot is thrown; tying under tension, frequently with deep tying and laparoscopic stitching. The important thing is to know when a slip knot is appropriate and to always make sure the knots are secure.
