PRR T1's Impostor? The SAR 520 Class (Trainz)

- [ Update: This is the 2nd attempt to upload this video, the first one didn't work after editing and was deleted......] Designed by Frank Hugh Harrison, The South Australian Railways 520 "Northern" had a very similar form and shape of it streamlined shrouding compared with the PRR Class T1 Duplex locomotive.
It could have been a coincidence but if you heard about SAR history from the 1940s to 1960s, you would probably understand why some if not many steam locomotives appearance of SAR shared similarity with America's famed trains; It was an open secret.
In this video, the PRR T1 #5549 hauling the postwar version of the Broadway Limited racing with double-headed SAR steam engine consisted of SAR 520 Class and 500 Class, some dated model from the DLS.
==After this video, we would like to do at least two queuing viewer's request before Monday, but we have family affairs to deal with so please be patient and stay tuned! : )

They built SAR 520 Classes between 1943 and 1947. The Pennsylvania T1 Duplex Class was built during 1942 then 1945-1946, and now one had been under construction since 2014-Present and will be done around 2030.

I think the 520s were designed for 60lb rail. A lot of lines in Australia were light to save government costs. There was not much opposition for the railways until the 60s.
SAR 520 was only made around a year after PRR T1 was made but I’m on Team SAR

Really an unfair comparison, the 520's had about 33,000 lbs TF - less than a 30 year old PRR K4 (44,000 lbs) - and the T1 had as much TF as both the SAR locos (65,000 ibs) - so no wonder the T1 walked away from the 520. And we're comparing 80 inch drivers versus 66 inch, so there's no comparison when it comes to speed. Not to knock the Australian, but to show we're comparing apples and oranges. Of course, the 520's had the valve gear the T1's should have had, Walshaerts vs Franklin Poppet (which didn't have all the bugs shaken out of it). We PRR fans can only dream of a T1a with the 520's valve gear or a 4-8-4 R2 instead of a duplex.
What the foamers in the comment section don’t understand is that the 520 actaully worked, and wasn’t just the definition of wheelslip.

Thank you! The DLC of PRR T1 pack which including some Fleet of Modernism cars cost $10-12 USD in total on Steam, the real T1 prototype 6110,6111 cost $300,000 USD each in 1942. :P
@@Jones3DModelingClub Today with the T1 Trust fund it cost $10 million. But that is par for the course if you want to build a steam locomotive from the ground up.

Well, the SAR 520-class does have a helper, so they are cheating bc the PRR T1 does not have any helpers.

Did you see the number of cars as well? - 30! Australia and especially South Australia does not have the population to ever need so many. SAR 520-class was never envisaged to carry nearly as many cars on its own, at most perhaps 17 on a really packed Melbourne express, the T1 is twice as powerful, and has 80inch drivers vs 66inch that were only designed for cruising at 70mph not 100+

@@tiernanflynn how
@@griffinrails They both served different purposes, on different gauged rail, in different social climates (which influences how many passengers ride trains, and so on), so performance is irrelevant. Furthermore, using looks to gauge the worth of an engine is subjective, so saying the 520 “looks much better” is a matter of opinion, and thus can be disputed.
As for my two cents on the matter, I’m not going to say which engine I prefer, but that I do believe the 520 was *deeply inspired* by the T1. I quote:
“The class featured extravagant streamlining, in the style of the Pennsylvania Railroad's T1 in the United States. The original streamlining was more closely based on the T1, and class members 520-522 were fitted with such. Members 523-531 were built with a narrower front profile, attributed to by the "crown" of grill around the chimney front. The earlier streamlined model had a lower front, resulting in a squat chimney profile extended from an otherwise graceful, albeit useless, streamlined casing. During their service life, some of the class lost the cowling around their front buffer beam, a move which simplified maintenance.”
Furthermore, the T1 prototypes 6110 and 6111 were designed and built earlier (1942) and 520, the first of their class, was built 1943, which would explain why she looks more like the prototype T1s *ahem* instead of the later ones (5500-5549).
