American Bandstand. Otober 31, 1964. The theme continues on this Halloween episode of American Bandstand from 1964. John Astin talks about The Addams Family.
Actually Sean was the son of Patty Duke from a previous marriage (before she married John Astin). John adopted Sean, so while he was indeed Sean's dad, he was not his biological father.
*I remember watching the Addams Family when it showed on reruns. It was a marathon on tvland and I fell in love with the show from the start. I was only 10 or 11 when I first watched it.*.
John Astin was good in I'm Dickens, He's Fenster. He was GREAT as Gomez Addams. But wasn't so good as the Riddler on the 1960s Batman tv series. The Riddler in those days was owned by Frank Gorshin.
Don't forget his continuing part on "Night Court", appearances on 'Night Gallery', 'Freaky Friday' and 'The Frighteners', and of course the Numerous Stage Plays and his one man show as Edgar Allen Poe.
Seems like a very sweet guy. I'm sure he's in perfect control, but he appears almost shy. i may be wrong, but I just get incredibly humble vibes from him.
I can't be the only woman who found Gomez wildly sexy... His passion for his wife was such a turn on, he adored Morticia and only had eyes for her. SIGH. That's most women's dream guy! And he has the most adorable overbite!
@@glamdolly30 yesssss wow he had that charisma and confidence and I loved watching him take her hand and hold it up to his face and snuggle into her neck. I made some faceapp videos and gifs as Morticia. I always thought that is exactly what I want to have. She was so gorgeous. I was born in the wrong era. I love the mustache. Another one I was gaga over was Clark Gable especially as Rhett Butler. That passion and the one little curl would fall over his forehead. *sigh*
It was kind of weird, that I somehow had a crush on John Astin back when the show was on TV and yet, being the child I was, I also wished he could be my daddy, along with lovely Morticia being my mommy. , I was only six, so I guess that explains it. John Astin is still a cool guy.
His kids were afraid of "Gomez"? But Gomez's appearance isn't that scary. His appearance is regular enough that the plot often calls upon him to interact with the "normal" world, much as "Marilyn Munster" did.
John Astin is one of the very best comedic actors ever.
he’s still alive and working though lol
@@dreezywill7393 it’s awesome eh. He’s in his 90’s and still sharp as a tack.
Grant Purdy I was surprised when I first found out about it
John Astin reminds me here of Robert Vaughn, the main difference being his quirky smile. Great comedian, great voice, and a genuinely nice person.
The man from Uncle! I loved that show!
He seems like a genuinely nice man. Always liked him.
He is.
John Still with us in his 90’s
If I ever met legends like John Astin, I would faint
GREAT.

what about Raul Julia? and Glen Taranto?
@@masterfarr8265 definitely not. They're not bad, they're just not as good
@@BeeHatGuy Agreed, way better than whoever played him in that animated movie
A unique and most interesting fine actor. And still alive in 2022!
Really? Perhaps there is something to this vampire thing.
92 ans ! et toujours un grand sourire ...

Now the last surviving main cast member of The Addams Family!
It's only today I realized that John Astin is the dad of actor Sean Astin from _Lord of the Rings_ .
Actually Sean was the son of Patty Duke from a previous marriage (before she married John Astin). John adopted Sean, so while he was indeed Sean's dad, he was not his biological father.
CriticalListener he was his father were it counted
CriticalListener Awww, That’s sweet.
@@LifeInStitchesCreations That's right! And if I remember correctly, that's how Sean feels about it as well.
Sean sees himself having a dad whenever he needs one. I'd love to borrow John as a dad. Mine died.

I saw it in its First Run!
Oh my goodness, The smile is making want to faint.
I love John Astin, he's one of my favorite actors 😍🤩

Born in 87 I found this because I'm watching the 90s and 60s Adams family and both gomezes are great seem like good people
Fistbump. Another 87-born here, both Gomezes are fantastic! :)
Happy 90th Gomez! Born March 30th, 1930!

Awesome concept he championed in the Addams Family...yet cancelled after only 2 seasons..

Yeah, uhh... Let's call it Minipoo - no negative connotations there.
I prefer a big shit
Big fail by the brand naming advertising execs!
very cool! John Astin is Awesome, always enjoy his work. I'll stop & get some Mini-poo on the way home.
John Astin is and has always been a class act
But I'm feeling much better now.
70% share! 😮
Being bandstand am i the only one excepting him to get up and sing
Funny guy. Kind of the American Graham Chapman.
Always seems like nice guy. Loved him and Patty on Tattletales
Wonderful !! When networks cared about pleasing us , the viewer's, instead of themselves !!!
Addams Family shows on this platform. Still, always funny.
I loved him as evil Royal Slade.
Crazy that he's 34 here.... People back then looked older than they actually were.
John is 93 now and he's out lived the rest of the Addams Family cast :(
So the set changed mid '64. Huh.
he's still alive in 2023 what a legend
Mini poo? I think we need to revisit the name

No one bests Frank Gorshin. A legendary, glorious over-actor. And by the way, an excellent mimic of Mel Blanc's abilities after Blanc had passed away.

Wow, this would have aired 10 years to the day that I born!
