To think that Todd thought about the idea of this game towards the beginning of his career, it’s just amazing. Especially since now it’s coming to light. He always said that he wouldn’t want to make the game unless he felt the technology was there to back up his ambitions. even now, I’m sure there are things he would love to see in the game that just aren’t possible yet. Todd is the difference between a corporate warrior who lives and breaths to see dollar signs… and a Gamer first who’s mind is always dreaming about what’s possible and what he would want to see in a video game.
Who is always thinking about how he can push the boundaries and make the game that he’s always dreamed of since the arcades of the 1970s and 80s. Someone who doesn’t just make games, but plays them. Still enjoys the same things he did as a kid. Some thing that is not only rare in this world, but commendable. As you can see that inner light in him shine when he talks about this game. The interviewer is obviously familiar with BGS's prior works, and it's telling in his questions that he shares the same concerns and optimism as everyday fans.
Why not 1440p or even 1080p at 60 on the series X, seems like Bethesda prioritized fidelity over performance.
They have always done that, though. He has gone on record and said so in interviews. They have always prioritized world and interactivity on consoles. Because they make simulation-type environments, not ‘stage sets.’ You walk into a room in a BGS game and there are cups and food on the table. You can knock the table over and the food and cups scatter. You can steal the cups and sell them. You can eat the food. Most games, you walk past a table with a meal on it that you can’t touch, it doesn’t do anything, it’s an object glued to a table, and any time you go to that room there’s that same meal glued to the table. You can cast a fireball and that dumb chicken still stays on the table.
If you’re a real RPG type player (which they are), that’s less fun than having fully interactive environments. Where you can go into a dungeon, and find a bunch of weird stuff absolutely everywhere to pick up, some of it quite valuable. Cast fireball and watch everything fly across the room.
This is what BGS is talking about when saying they prioritize their world over the frame rate.
If you don’t like the frame rate, sell your Xbox and buy a real gaming machine. 😉
Just a little surprised there isn’t a “performance mode” like there is with Spider-Man and so many other games. Maybe some patch later …
@@idhindsight yea I’m thinking we can see a performance mode update down the line
The game may be CPU-bottlenecked at various points, which is not something that can be fixed via a resolution drop. If that's the case then there could be no feasible solution to hitting 60fps. The engine and systems that Bethesda uses doesn't allow for the sort of performance tuning that Devs like Insomniac can do.

Yeah, console players always get the shorter end for this type of games. But honestly, is to be expected, really. With random generation on the fly and sheer scale of things. This game is probably the most cpu heavy thing they ever tried and they wanted the cinematic graphics too. So not much to sacrifice for performance there.
Resolution could easily be sacrificed, id honestly rather play a game at 1080p 60fps than 4k 30fps
@@Scratchy1992 It already runs at below 1080P, it's just upscaled to 4K and the performance hit for that isn't that large (in the single digits), if they went any lower it would look awful and you probably wouldn't see any extra performance anyway because you'd instantly be CPU bound.

@@DeathAngel484 Bethesda hard locks their games’ frame rates EVEN ON PC because their outdated physics engine is tied to it. Fallout 4, Skyrim STILL run like slideshows on PC. Unacceptable
@@DeathAngel484 please stop defending them in this negative way. As a fan you can still wish for more features!
There are plenty modern console games that offer a choise, I'm also hoping for a future update with a 60fps or 40fps/120hz mode. Would gladly trade in some fidelity!
@@OrchinX Skyrim and Fallout 4 are old. Back then, 120hz wasn't as widespread as it is today. Also, there are now mods for both games that patch the physics engine to allow more than 60 fps without glitching.
Todd please never go! we will love you forever
Todd did a great job of covering bases and answering more than what was asked in the interview questions.
I’m 70, so the whole age issue is even more significant for me. 😂
Looks amazing and im hyped for this but come on make it run at 60 or atleast give the option to switch between performance and fidelity mode
This 💯
Yes!
👏
Buy a PC if you want 60fps in games starting from now.
It's hard not to be hyped. Can't wait to support this game looks like a lot of love went into it.
This was a great interview, asked all the right questions!
