The teacher, Drew Mortenson AC3DS, attended the ARRL Teachers Institute on Wireless Technology. This is a completely donor-funded program for educators who want to inspire kids in their STEM programs.

Congrats to the school and kids. Why no mention of this high school being the alma-mater of the late Skylab and last shuttle Challenger Commander before the catastrophic explosion in 1986 Astronaut Paul J. Weitz? He came to speak to school kids during a visit to dedicate the football stadium in his honor.

I have been a ham radio operator for 31 years. A lot of people that are unfamiliar with the hobby always have questions for me. Some people think it is the same as C.B. radio, and I have to explain that they are totally different. My question to them is always, "What other hobby do you know of where you can talk live to an astronaut while they are orbiting the earth 240 miles above you?" That usually gets their attention, and they want to know more about ham radio. 73, KU4UV

There is for some! If you have a district, and parents, that care, there's no place these kids can't go! But if your in an area people have just given up on, than nope.

This video is superb, but Al Roker was wrong, no longer is amateur radio there when everything goes down. Hams are generally old men being led by a failed dictatorial dying organization. These kids are amazing, and their equipment is plugged in. Listen to ham radio on a weekend and you will hear thousands of men in a contest make 10 second worthless contacts.
Do you know how hard the test is? My daughter passed it when she was eight and many younger have passed, even in kindergarten.

Your opinion is null and void. You being a ham and constantly degrading the hobby makes no sense. You are always down on hams, maybe you should go to CB and not renew your license.
