She’s an institution in Costume Design for the Screen. A Storyteller in their own right.

Sandy Powell is such an inspiration and she so deserves this BAFTA Fellowship ❤️ I always watch her interviews at the start of a new project, just to have a little boost, and to remind myself what my job is important and why I love it. And that makes such a difference. I hope I will have the opportunity to meet her one day and personally thank her for that.

She’s Britain’s answer to Edith Head (and even wears similar glasses) her designs are inspirational and add depth to the characters she clothes. I’d go to see any movie costumed by Sandy Powell.

One of the most inspiration videos I’ve listen to recently and I’m not even in her field of work

I agree Mam, there is not an iota of glamour in costume design, in fact glamour is the deception to not find the truth! Adorable!

Can you imagine how many hours and days went into making one costume? How many buttons, beads , zippers, the measurements , of each character the scarves hats, suits, the tailoring stitching, shoes, this lady's work should never go in vain. Anyone who works that hard I would never want that to go in vain. And don't even mention the lost hours of sleep and missed sit down dinners. But grabbing snacks and donuts while your mind is racing to the next idea before you have even ordered the fabric. Wow, what a great life. And to be totally honest, I would have loved to even get to wear, just one of her costumes. Lol wishful thinking. Hehe ❤ Bravo, my Lady. Oh, my God, I almost forgot the sketchbook and the sketching meetings.

I extremely dislike her design choices. The characters in her films are put aside for her over designed, over conceptualized ideals that take away from the story and don’t further the audiences experience, but serve her own idea of narrow minded work of art. She Upstages everything else just so she can stand out and she does not act to serve her other collaborators or the story. Pretentious and self absorbed she does not work to make the movie better.
