I've said this before, but I think it's so incredible that you can't talk about the speedrun history of nearly any Minecraft category without talking about Illumina at one point or another. He's impacted almost every facet of the speedrunning community and I think that's incredibly impressive. That's a big part of why I will always consider Illumina to be the greatest speedrunner to ever touch the game.
I feel this kinda applies to couriway as well, even though he runs in less categories
@@nenrikido2903 for couriway and a lot of other runners i think time will tell of what becomes of their legacy. while they have made their impacts, theyre a lot newer than illumina and while what illumina did back then has helped form modern speedrunning (the fact that he's still going is crazy) we will see how much the current runners impact future speedrunning when we get there. im esp looking at feinberg and maybe doypingu as underrated people currently who may have the greatest long-term impact in speedrun strategies. either way, one thing's for sure: illumina is the goat of speedrunning: impactful in nearly every category, helped form the foundations of modern speedrunning, helped speedrunning go mainstream, is still a force in speedrunning nowadays, and honestly just transcends time at this point lol (this comment is getting out of hand but yah theres a lot to say XD)

When I was running SSGP at that time, there were 3 seeds :
- a safe one
- an unreliable one
- a weird one
There were two schools :
- People who were running the "unreliable seed" like me,
- People who were running the "safe seed" and making routes, but it would always be slower than a successful "unreliable seed" run.
It was unreliable because it was incredibly difficult to achieve a run with this seed. The RNG played such a huge role, that the WR I obtained was the ONLY successful run I achieved after 300 attempts. I was so lucky with the end fight, that it was almost impossible to beat my time on that seed because of the RNG. Nikocraft's run was legendary because he dared to beat the time despite the challenge, and he did it perfectly. That's why there was a huge period with no WRs!

They had to use 11 eyes cuz in 1.8.9 a full portal would not generate it will just sit there with full eyes

I'm assuming ender dragon spawns in peaceful since you could change the difficulty from a regular one to peaceful after you get into the end. Softlocking due to the enderdragon disappearing due to peaceful would probably not be great

The best difficulty to play minecraft on is all of them by switching them
peaceful for mining, and traveling on foot
hard for raids and mob farms and making zombie villagers
easy and normal for getting blaze rods and ender pearls
man, I was wondering during those first runs why no one was using the TNT to break the desert temple. by the time I even tried speedrunning that was already commonplace, crazy to realize it must have been a relatively recent development.

This just shows me that I can actually beat the game in Peaceful Mode, and I've never been happier.
I would recommend turning on mobs near a blaze spawner just to save the hassle of trades, but yup. I did it by accident as I forgot to switch from Peaceful when we got into the end.

I once tried routing a true pacifist run of rsg, but unfortunately the version changes just don't line up :( In all versions where you can use the end crystal trick for not having to kill the dragon, you are REQUIRED to kill blazes (or find a 12 eye portal). In all versions where you can trade for eyes of ender, you have to kill the dragon.
you could always load the game on 1.8.9, trade for eyes, and then quickly change versions

About the Eyes part before the Villager Upgrade, you could get the eyes from Clerics very very easy

i imagine the dragon is allowed in peaceful to prevent despawning her, which could be a big problem. idk if you can respawn her currently without ever beating her, but before that was added it definitely would have been a run ender unless you could pull of a massive bug, or maybe version switch to regenerate the end if that might work

I cheated into the end on peaceful and was really surprised to see the dragon and shulkers. But I think it is to acquire the egg and shulker shells without going into creative.

Can"t they find already open end portals like in regular set seed with latest version ?
In those older versions, if a portal spawned with 12 eyes, it would not light the portal. So the portal would be useless, as you couldnt even open it if you tried.
@@Herobrine_Hoax yes, but why do they not do it in recent versions ? SInce from my understanding, the reason why they used an older version is the ender eye trade, which is useless if you don't need eyes.
@@alathreon8315 They do, and the current meta for newer versions is to just use the same seed as ssg, which is lit.

The dragon spawns because it's cond non-hostile. It won't attack you. Knock you off your perch as you're climbing up to the crystals, but not actually engage.
I many mobs that CAN kill you, but don't attack first spawn in peaceful in fact (I prefer peacefully for lazy mining and building, only turning on mobs if I need something like blaze rods).
She didn't even notice we were attacking her for a while if I remember rightly (I had brought a friend to help, but forgot to switch from Peaceful so we were confused).
But what about random seed peaceful mode post 1.16?
Nobody does that. U would have to find a completed portal (the chance for that is one in one trillion) and all of that without any eyes of ender to guide u. So u would have to dig randomly in the ground and hope there is a strpnghols
I don't understand what's the difference between SSGP and normal pre 1.9 SSG, are the seeds used different and if so why? Apart from explosions doing no damage what changes in pre 1.9SSGP and pre 1.9SSG can someone explain please
well right now they use the same seed but ssgp end fights can be way faster than ssg ones since you dont have to worry about dying as much and you can be more agressive
pre 1.9, the only way to enter the End w/o nether is by trading with clerics
in 1.9+ you can no longer trade ender eyes with clerics, but you CAN find seeds with prelit portals, unlike in pre 1.9, apparently

the coolest thing about minecraft is the random world generatiion. I understand this makes speedrunning luck based, but using someone else's speedrun seed ruins minecraft speedruns for me. mojang mightaswell just make a seed/world for speedrunners.
