"is it possible to hate and love something"
Yes. It's called family, and there's nothing you can do about it.
The fact the armor actually showed up on the character in Evergrace blew my mind. Coming from ps1 era where character models stayed the same whole game, this was one of my first ps2 experiences and I adore this game to this day.
That Jackie Chan Adventures reference has crippled me. Never has a reference launched me into the 7th dimension.
"The 32x port of Doom is probably the worst port of Doom..."
Me: Laughs in 3DO
Tbf saturn port sucking was because of carmack being a stuck up, and the 3do one was made by one person in 10 weeks bc they were forced to release it for christmas
32x doom is not a horrible port, compared to the PC original yea it's not good but compared to all the other console ports it's pretty decent
To be honest, the worst version of doom is up to other’s preference, as all Doom ports [except the ports nowadays] have their flaws, yet have positives. For example, the 3DO version had the best music, yet had bad controls, frame rate, and graphics. The Snes port had low performance, but the controller has enough buttons to use, while the 32X version doesn’t. Even tho, most ports have an excuse for not being good, like the Saturn and 3DO version. But the ones that have no positives or an excuse are the worst versions of the game. And personally, I will have to agree with the 32X version being the worst, as you basically have low performance, and not enough buttons [unless you own a 6 button controller but if you don’t, have a great time 🙂] You don’t really have to agree with me either, as it’s up to your preference, but it’s just my own opinion, is all.
Austin always says "I love you all" but does anybody ever bother to say that they love him back?
I love you Austin ❤
To be fair, you must have a high enough IQ to understand Evergrace's soundtrack
Someone is talking about Evergrace. *I AM HERE FOR THIS*
"Worst port of doom." You sir have never played doom on a graphing calculator
@Daishin no Dōro well 3do doom was made in 3 weeks after the pubblished hyped it up to unfathomable levels
While flawed, it was one of the best versions at the time, and was well received. Not sure what he's going on about here.
LOL! That Shrek game totally exists in a part of my memory that I still can't seem to access. I know I've played it, but it totally feels like something out of an alternate timeline-but no, it is totally real.
Worst port of Doom? You sir must not have played 3DO or Saturn versions. 😂
3DO Doom is unplayable. Yeah, the SNES and Saturn have low frame rates as well but 3DO also gives you super laggy controls, it's like your character is swimming through molasses, the input lag is so bad.
@@avideogamemaster The SNES version is 100000% valid just for its sheer audacity and limit-pushing factor.
It was developed by A SINGLE MAN on his free time and shown to the boys at iD, who apparently responded to it with an enthusiastic "HELL YEAH!" and passed it along to their console publishers at Midway for official release. That man would later develop the Bleem! PS1 emulator for PC and Dreamcast AROUND THE SAME TIME THE PS1 WAS BEING SOLD IN STORES, so yeah, I can see why John Carmack took a liking to him and his stuff. And it has levels more faithful to the PC version than the Jaguar version that iD themselves developed!
Also, you have to admit that bright red cart is just plain SEXY. Mmmmm.
Agreed, he just thinks that the 32X port is the worst simply because it has content missing, which is ridiculous, because while the content missing is a big minus point, the game still plays pretty smooth, unlike the 3DO and Saturn ports
you name-dropped armored core and talked about Gundam a bit. Any chance of a mech video games video coming out?
You know the original Doom was NOT played with a mouse, right? I remember playing it at my cousin's house. Their computer didn't even have a mouse at the time.
@@Chaos89P Later versions were updated to use a mouse, but the original game didn't have that feature on release.
Chaos89P the main thing is it wasn’t designed for mouse and keyboard which is why you don’t choose original controls usually when loading up doom or doom 2 on a modern pc
The version of DOOM I downloaded to my computer had mouse support. I didn't know there was a keyboard-only version first.
It always supported mouse, but not for vertical aiming. It was more like "all mouse" than "mouse and keyboard" in any modern sense though.

3do, snes and saturn versions: please allow us to introduce ourselves
17:52
you mean making awesome racing games
In my opinion as a former journalist who was working at Game Informer when Xbox released, you should have gone with Kabuki Warriors. Our editor-in-chief beat the game with his ass. He slapped the hamburger controller on his butt until he killed the last boss.
I LOVE the Snack World Tutti Frutti music in the ad in the beginning! That game is quite underrated!!
You want to talk about this video's sponsor? Well, I want to talk about my sponsor: the right arrow key.
True Sad Story: When I was 13 I got an original Xbox for my birthday, 2 weeks after it came out. Toys R Us, at the time, only sold the system in a bundle. $500, extra controller, choice of 3 games. I couldn't convince my parents to let me get Halo among them, so I wound-up getting Tony Hawk 2X (wooo), Amped Snowboarding (booo), and fuckin" Shrek (massive booooo). lol
Is amped snowboarding that bad? I played the third one and felt just like SSX.
Tony Hawk 2X was the best version of that game. Being able to unlock all the levels of the first game and manual through them was the best. Good pick up on your part.
Sunbeams Streaming Through Leaves On The Hill is unironically one of the best songs I have ever heard in a video game
Oh god, I played that Gundam game - one part you could have mentioned is that not only could you just walk onto an enemy base and win, _so can they._ One early Zeon mission took me 10+ attempts because the Gundam would just walk past me as I shot at it, and by the time I turned my slow-ass Zaku around it had won without firing a shot.
"32x is the worst port of doom"
Oh you sweet summer child...
Hits right in the nostalgia. I remember Evergrace being a PITA to get through, but somehow I did it. I've also been a huge Armored Core fan through till the last game, the series definitely needs to make a comeback. Evergrace reminds me of another ps2 launch title, Dynasty Warriors 2, in terms of how simple it was compared to DW3.
I've got a Jaguar, and holy hell does it suck. Haven't pulled it out in years but I remember I have Iron Soldier and Kasumi Ninja, and at least one other game for it. They all suck.
dude this content train you're on, sign me up. I'm so excited you're putting out so much stuff!
Never played EverGrace, but it looks and sounds like one of those niche titles with like, 5 people that are diehard fans of it. Kinda like me and Evil Zone.
*"Is it possible to hate and love something?"*
*Me: Thinks of ex girlfriend*
Yes.
I love how Isabelle loving Doom has become a widely accepted head canon at this point!
This video was legit great, but now I just can't wait for the Kinect video.
The Sega Cd v2 (top loader) is much more reliable than the tray version, and much easier to fix and replace parts with if you want a good Sega CD
With every yin comes a yang, since with the Switch you have BotW, an amazing launch title that showed that the Switch was capable of putting out great games right out the bat and is imo the best game for it...
(I know it released on WiiU as well and was originally developed for it, but since it came out for Switch on the same day and was, again, a launch title, I consider it a Switch game as much as a WiiU game.)
Or 1-2 Switch, which’s basically a gimmicky shovelware title sold for full price that should’ve been bundled with the console instead, like with Wii Sports and Nintendo Land.
1-2 switch is the worst gimmick game ive ever seen tbh, its content barely looks like it can last an hour
Holy shit I've been trying to remember the name of Lost Kingdoms for almost a decade. Thank you so much.
Enchanted Arms is not awful i loved that game and think it was an awesome rpg.
And most people seems to have forgotten that human like animal characters was normal and done all the time in the 80s and 90s and it was not seen as weird at all back then.
And they also made them hot all the time because that was not weird back then either.
I haven't seen your vids in awhile so i don't know how long you've had it but that's a dope set up you got, i dig it
Has Austin every done a video strictly about a set of or individual Gundam games??? If not, I would love to see one. I'm wanting to get into Gundam and I feel like I could use some of the games to help me enjoy the series.
A fun detail about the GameCube version of Shrek, is that if you fall out of the map, you will reappear inside a small room that looks like the inside of a GameCube. I imagine that the Xbox version has that as well.
'i feel like the Sega CD was only owned by your cool friend that was grounded all the time" that's so true it's almost scary like you spied on my childhood
13:43 oh hell yeah Gundam Battle Assault 2 😩👌 one of my favorite fighting games of all time
WHAT!!! Fusion Frenzy was an awesome time back in High school!!!!
Yes, it is possible to hate and love something.I deal with that struggle everyday on the internet.
'ST user gave it 90%'. Belive me, compared to some of the crap coming out on the ST in the early 90's, Trevor Mcfur would of seemed like a masterpiece.
How dare you disgrace the name of knack! It's a mastapeecee
16:45 It's Pan Pizza, isn't it? He's the only person I know who stans for Fuzion Frenzy.
First Fusion Frenzy was better than Hudson Soft Developed sequel on 360. That looked better but had less content and no way in online multiplayer games to skip the announcers cut scenes that was skip able offline and the exact same every time.
Shrek on Shreksbox is what chaotic evil looks like
Good video! I didn't know about most of these games
nice to see my boy dropping these hot videos and I'm looking forward to more
"WHAT THE FUCK AM I LOOKING AT?!" - Adam Sessler on Mobile Suit Gundam Crossfire.
7:00 this is a sequel to Heavy Nova a even worse game on Sega CD in Japan but was a Regular Genesis Cart in US region. Sol Feace,Earnest Evans was also Sega CD titles in japan that ended up on Genesis in US only as carts with the cut scenes removed but no game play changes. For some reason and Sol Feace on cart is called Sol Deace instead.
OTOGI WAS MY FUCKING JAM!
I still remember having to learn to fucking fly just to beat that last boss.
Like, it's not even a game mechanic, you literally had to figure out that there were a class of weapon that allowed you to do an upward attack in the air to gain altitude, and it was REQUIRED to beat the last boss.
God that game was so great.
''Sega CD. Owned by that one kid who was grounded all the time."
Is that implying that the kid a troublemaker (and yet kool by young kid standards), or that Austin was ghosted by his 'friend' with the Sega CD by being told, "Sorry. You(Austin) can't come over. I'm grounded."
I had Crossfire (or technically Target in Sight in Europe), and man, as a 10 year old rookie gamer, I had no idea how to play it.
I also had Sonic 06 and Genji.
Yeah my start as a gamer wasn't great.
Doom on 32X was my 1st doom experience and played it for years growing up and loved it. I had no idea of the difference until ps1 days. But I still enjoyed it
"...Atari ST user gave a 90%" Oh Austin, no. It's a well-known fact that the reviews in British and Continental European home microcomputer magazines are basically random number generators. There are magazines with the policy of "have to beat the game to review" as a core of their model, and then a whole issue will be full of reviews describing the ending of games wrong. They are a historical footnote seemingly created at the time for the sake of future comedic consumption.
7:37
Takahata101? Is that you?
19:54 hey i recognise this Control skin... This is a 3D Version of Warioland... I miss Warioland so much...
I played Gundam: Crossfire on a demo kiosk at Walmart.
It was my first experience with Gundam as a franchise--save a few models, but I didn't know what they were tied to--mayhe that's why I've not picked up another Gundham game.
Love that farty take on the Doom soundtrack. Iconic!
Holy shit that warsong/langrisser music right at the start of the video already has me more excited than i need to be
What, shrek was a launch title? got the bundle at launch with halo, doa, and project gotham from eb and ended up being some of the greatest gaming moments in my life : D
Fun, fact through emulation we found that Crossfire wasn't so bad frame rate wise. The actually mech animations were that low of frame rate. Some people have had the game running at 60FPS and it still feels like you're playing at 10FPS.
This channel is chefs kiss
Gundam Crossfire. Wow
As a fellow Gundam nut, I've never heard of this travesty. Now I see why.
I'm gonna go back to SD CrossRays now, thanks.
Did you ever play Another Century Episode? It's a mecha anime crossover game by From Software. It's got Gundam, Macross, Code Geass, Getter Robo, & a few other series.
your new cowboy hat icon is A+
I rented Evergrace from a price cutter way back in the day. I remembered it being bad, but I was also very little
Evergrace also had really weird music, which you didn't mention.
Jokes on you, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was a Wii U launch title! My Wii U didn’t collect dust for like, 3 years!
.......and then it became a cloud of dust
Shrek Extra Large is one of the best speedgames I have ever experienced and I would die for that terrible ass videogame
Wii u's launch games were fine. The Wii U had the most launch games of any Nintendo console and was pretty good. One of the interesting things about the Wii U's launch was that it had games you would've never expected to see on a Nintendo console. Many were games that had yet to ever appear on a Nintendo console--It's thanks to Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper that Hyrule Warriors ever existed.. Not only on launch day but during its launch window--amassing close to 30 titles. And the majority of these titles might not ever appear on a Nintendo console again thanks to poor decisions from pushy publishers.
Do i hear Snack World Dungeon Crawl Gold town music in the background , in beginning of video?
"...'90s anime-looking mecha fighting game"... 🤨
"... for the Sega CD"
Ah. *Not* One Must Fall 2097, then... 😔
love your vids
You think the 32x port of Doom is bad? Have you played the 3DO port? The SNES port? Aside from the fart music, the 32x had a very decent version of Doom, to the point where most other console ports were based on it.
To me Miyazaki is FROM Software. They had some cool titles before Demon Souls, but there is definitely a huge divide between pre-Miyazaki and post-Miyazaki.
Also, what is it with Miyazakis? FROM Software and Studio Ghibli are almost only famous because of their Miyazaki outputs.
I'm pretty sure the lack of Gundam games in the West was more due to the franchise falling from grace in general here (mostly due to mismanagement on Bandai's part).
That side scroller looks like something we'd have played in the computer lab in 2001.
Awesome video
32x version of Doom was probably second best at the time. Jaguar being #1. 3DO is unplayable, snes is so pixelated and saturn is pretty bad too. Not that the 32x version is great but at least it has a decent framerate lol
Pouring one out for Armored Core right there with you my man.
_...the ones that flopped._
*Shows footage of Knack*
Excuse me? You clearly don't know a MASTAHPIECE when you see it
lmao the music on that doom port
How dare you open the wound that is Chromehounds being unplayable now due to servers being shut down. RIP Chromehounds.
There must be yiff of Trevor McFur made immediately. It is only the natural way of things.
I think that the Wii U actually had a pretty good launch set of titles, the brand new call of duty, Assassin’s creed had only came out a month earlier, ZombiU was unique and really both good and forward thinking, there definitely would be game problems with the Wii U but launch wasn’t one of them in my opinion
The Jaguar controller is actually really comfortable, so I call bullshit.
DICE also developed the underrated racing game Motorhead.
Anyone know what video it was where he talked about Gundam Side Story 0079?
I really enjoyed Zombi U myself. I played it when it got ported to PS3 (as Zombi). I liked the setting the in particular, zombie infested London is a cool idea.
2:55 *totally forgets about Deracine*
I still love you ❤️
In which video did he talk about gundam game? Trying to look for it and give it a watch 😅
Is this the screaming Austin from game theory?
14:12 How I wish that game got a HD remaster...... Oh, well. At least I can play it with others online using a ROM of the game, Duckstation, and Parsec though. I feel the same with Gundam Seed Destiny: Rengou VS. ZAFT II Plus and Gundam Wing: Endless Duel.
Thank you for mentioning Evergrace. Even if you’re mentioning that it’s crap. I would die for Darius and Sharline.
You're not supposed to play Doom with a mouse and keyboard. Just the keyboard.
Can confirm fusion frenzy was fun af back in the day
7:36 That has to be Nappa's VA.
Trevor McFur wasn't originally intended to rip off Star Fox...it was just going to be a scifi game with anthro animals as the main characters, which is like saying any platformer where the main character wears a red shirt and blue pants is a rip off of Mario. However, the development of the game was plagued with executive interference, removing critical story elements and causing major pot holes because back then as much as now, studios thought kids couldn't handle the concept of death (despite many of the _most memorable and beloved_ stories for children having major characters dying in them and constant threats of death to the main characters as part of the stakes) among other themes, as well as not understanding the target audience was meant to be teens/young adults initially but "hurr durr, talking animals means it's for babies".
I don't know why I know so much about the development of this one mediocre game I've never played on a console I've never touched.
i HATED Evergrace. I bought that junk from a gas station or something...I can't remember. It was a store you'd never buy video games from. I tried playing for days. but I just couldn't do it.
What are some of the worst launch titles I missed that isn't? What about the best?
and yea sorry i missed botw
Pretty much every Majong game released when a console launches in Japan
street frighter the movie the game saturn/ playstion1 and fighting street AKA street fighter 1 for trobo grafix 16/ pc engen
You should have done Knack
Knack,
@@Ash0512 ture but i hav a soft spot fro that gam but i can see why people dont like it i mean the story is mhen
