You have two “pipes.” In your throat your esophagus (where your food goes when you swallow) splits off to your trachea where air goes when you breathe. There is flap called an epiglottis which seals off the trachea when you swallow. When you choke on something usually something has gone down your trachea (or the wrong pipe) or has obstructed your trachea before it branches off. 😂
