Tony Hawk games have introduced me to so many great songs, real hip-hop which is why I find myself loving the underground scene so much more passionately than mainstream. Thanks Tony Hawk!
It's not a happy song, but if someone isn't listening to the lyrics, they'd hear the upbeat instrumental, bob their head, and carry on. That's the point- it's musical irony, downtrodden lyrics about living a lie by keeping a smile despite immeasurable hardship and heartache. The "happy" instrumental (complete q laugh tracks) mirror the lyrics- the song, like it's narrator, is at the surface, without listening to the lyrics, cheerful and upbeat. Upon closer inspection, though... well, you get it.
Thanks for understanding the song like I do. He had hard times at those times, but still managed to spit it. We all grow old. Am coolin. It is def a depressing song, but it also resounds rebirth. At least that is how I perceived it in those days.
i don't even like rap and hip hop that much - but this kind of old school vibe is just the best - it reminds me of summer days - can't wait for the summer xD
went into a music shop with a mate shopping yesterday, i picked up some headphones to see what the quality was like and pressed play on the store ipod... this was playing! so glad i pick those headphones up and not some other ones!
This song reminds me of this DVD that my dad had in the late 90s I think or early 2000s..it was full of music videos like this, Sabotage from the Beastie boys and Weapon Of Choice from Fatboy Slim...I need to find this DVD again..
To me, he's saying that even he's got it made as a rapper, he still has problems like you and me. But he still keeps his head up and only think about the positive.
that shows how clever fatlip is. he dresses up like a clown with balloons and a happy beat, but read the lyrics. its talking about his rise and fall. and his hope for a comeback

10 years later man. I don’t even associate this with Tony Hawk anymore… stuck with me.
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland had always been the best soundtrack in my opinion
The world of rap needs a lot more honesty. This track is still a breath of fresh air.
Honestly. I can't think of another song so real and confessional.

The instrumental is not upbeat, It is melancholic.
@@jr-km2rd if I had one word to describe it I'd say nostalgic
I got to hang out with Lip a while while working the night shift at my hotel. A cool cat. I'll support him with whatever he puts out.

Is it fucked up that this song almost perfectly describes me?
its meant to be. the lyrics are anything but that, however. part of the creativity of this song is that it sounds happy
YESSSSS. Great scene....
Why is the audio all fucked up when I try to listen on my iPhone?
