Hi, just wanted to know if the formula sheet has volume and area formulas.

This was super useful :) was there any form of geometry such as euclidean?
I honestly can’t remember ... if there was I mean I probably skipped it
So I’m going to say that there was maybe 1... I mean Euclidean geometry has so many rules it wouldn’t be fair
So prepare for the first but don’t stress it was mainly algebra and trig

how far in advance should a person start preparing for the nbt? do you think 2 weeks is enough?

It of course depends on how good you are at Math and English, however, two weeks is not enough.
Things covered for Math lit requires a lot of analytical thinking and figuring out
Things covered for English requires some good reading and interpretation skills. You also have to know the meaning of words that you don't typically use everyday.
For the pure math (MAT) you really need to give yourself some time for this. A lot of trigonometry and algebra questions that you don't see everyday is asked there.
I don't mean to scare you, but if you're good at math there's nothing to worry about. However, if you okayish in math you really have to prepare well

I hear you mention pure maths stuff , so even if you do maths lit do they still include that ?
If you take maths lit ... you aren’t expected to write the MAT, and you most probably wouldn’t be taking a degree that has one.
But let’s say the course you applied for allows math lit if you pass the MAT you would need to prep quite a bit more as a lot of those concepts aren’t taught in math lit.
But if you are just write the AQL you don’t have much to worry about just practice

It’s easier if you rewrite. You know what to expect and you’ll (probably) be less anxious.

the AQL section is English and Math lit. they won't be allowing a calculator for that.

As a maths lit student should I still know core maths(pure maths)
Can I ask why you wrote the NBT twice
I answer in a bit more detail in another video; but basically I wanted to study somewhere else and I didn't know I could use the same NBT marks.

How do you prepare to get high marks..?
The course I applied for was a BA IN DRAMA AND THEATRE STUDIES so why is it compulsory for me to do the nbt tests if I'm not gonna use it in my course?
If I'm not mistaken, you would probably only need to write the AQL which is Math lit and English.
Language and English is a big part of the BA side, so that could be a possibility.
Secondly, remember that NBT is a placement test. It's just there to make sure that you are ready for tertiary studies

But if you apply to Stellenbosch this year, its only the faculty of law and School of Tomorrow students that need to write the NBTs..?

i wrote a few years ago
and with the online im pretty sure they only need to see your face
so I'd say wearing anything is okay- but maybe check with someone else to be sure if you're concerned

So you don’t need to write MAT (but you could if you wanted to).
The English and Math literacy section are both in the AQL test.
So you choose if you want to write the MAT (pure math), AQL ( English and math literacy) or both.

Hey, if it says AQL and math then you are writing both.
AQL is English and math lit. MAT is pure math
So can I cancel the pure math or just say on the day I write,I don't want to?

Otherwise just skip nothing will happen besides losing the amount you paid for it

I really cannot remember, but it starts early in the morning and you must have an ID.
If not you can bring an alternative form of identification (maybe a birth certificate) with an affidavit.

But if you don't you need to get an affidavit and a copy of your birth certificate.:)

Yes, it is true, you can also re-write in matric if you choose. However, I don't really recommend it. Grade 11 is pretty hectic and there are a few things you only learn in matric.

It is very similar to the SAT's. It's just not as well-known because it's only used in SA

I do think it prepares you well, but also take into account how good you actually are with Math and English.
Their course is entirely online so you just have to pay and then they'll give you access immediately.

Hi,
No you are not allowed to use calculators. They do give you a formula sheet, however, it doesn’t help much.
So do study hard.
You will find that you don’t really need one.

Is the MAT test similar to the maths Olympiad test
I honestly cannot remember, I was out of school two years now and I wrote the Olympiad test so long ago.
But I can confidently say, that if you found that test somewhat easy you have nothing to stress about now.
The NBT however, does test you on the rules too. There are some questions in the NBT require you to know the theory behind the principles in math not just the math itself
