After diagnosing the Cheap $1,400 Salvage Auction Range Rover with a bad head gasket, we went and tried a stop leak sealer product, to only have a ton of other issues. Can we save it, or should we just send it back to the junkyard?

Edit: “buying ANY Range Rover was a HUGE MISTAKE”
Beat me to it...
@@jeffking this is what people need to hear
Buying any Range or Land Rover for any price is a huge mistake. What you needed to get is the “ Blue Devil” head gasket sealer . It’s like 60 bucks but it’s the best shit out there.
At this point, putting Stopleak in the Rover is the equivalent of putting a band-aid on a bullet hole.
Tis just a tiny flesh wound...
folks have been using forms of stop leak for decades...
People have also been jumping fuses with metal for decades... Doesn't meant it's a good idea.
And coolant stop leak does nothing but clog your radiator, heater core and thermostat. It might work temporarily for about month on headgaskets, if you’re lucky, but then you’ll spend the rest of your ownership of the vehicle having overheating issues.
Lol, my wife is a nurse and that is EXACTLY what they do for most GSWs. 🤷♂️
I import and sell Land Rovers. Having on is like dating a supermodel with mental health issues.
That was very nicely said.
So what you're saying is she would rank very high on the crazy/hot matrix?
So.... Better to look at them than having them😁
Corey Newman yeah but the fun you have riding in it is better than anything else
Is there any other kind of supermodel?
Hey Sam, As a 10 year Land Rover owner I can assure you after working with this car you'll become an excellent mechanic.
Good luck.
Same thing happened to me when I bought an 1999 Audi A8

It is supposed to be filled with chocolate to dip the strawberries in.

Tim C Yeah, most probably, haha.

what's the deal with the fuse?
This was one of the most unintentionally hilarious videos I've seen.
This falls under the Craigslist: runs great but needs a head gasket category.
Ran when parked.
Previous owner blew his head gasket while working on it.
I read one that said "runs great...but will need a new engine. Will need to be towed."
I was l looking for a truck on Craiglist the description said "Run and Drive just fine, but you have to tow it" lol
@@Embition93 Maybe the steering wheel was missing.

Quick tip for the stupid expensive hoses, go to a hydraulic repair shop, they can crimp any ends onto any hose. BTDT....
That is just what I was going to post. Good for you CK. I had to do that years ago for the power steering hoses on a 1962 Studebaker.
This. Comes in really useful for small brake hoses and brake line sections, they do a much better job of bending and flaring them. A/C shops can also make all kinds of refrigerant hoses.
They certainly can do any hose with the fraction of the price....
I can just hear Scotty Kilmer laughing at you 😂
Although to be fair you can hear him laughing at pretty much anything people do with their cars.
“ Those Range Rovers are endless money pits”

That’s a few hundred thousand views EZ!!

"There's so much pressure!"
That's what exhaust gases do to the coolant system. Nothing short of a head gasket is going to fix that engine.
not exhaust but the pressure of the pistons true the crackt gaskets

Advertising an Alfa Romeo, then talking about poor reliability of Range Rover 😂. What a great match for a video.
have you ever even owned an alfa romeo? 🤦♂️
I haven't myself, but I listen to those who do. When even owners make jokes about looking forward to the day (one day) when something isn't broken, they'll be happy.
And even brand new models. Matt Farrah and other automotive journalists often tell the story about covering the Giulia Quadrifoglio launch. Because every single journalist had some sort of warning light during their time with it.
The faults cleared, and no car broke down, but definitely not a good start.
I've also often heared people joke about their reliability but in my personal experience with Alfa's have always been good cars... maybe they just import the bad ones to the US 😂
@English I'm just saying that I've owned 2 and never had a big problem.. Obviously after about 8 years some problems started to arise but that's normal nowadays
@Thomas....yeah....bit like peas in a pod!
Be fair though: When running to spec, both are very nice cars....and I wouldn't mind either..... I see nothing here to warrant sleepless nights: All fixable.
Just time and patience and some dosh for the bits you cannot repair yourself.
Pretty sure I saw Rich Rebuilds running away in the background after sabotaging the Rover...
Sam sabotages himself. Rich doesn’t need to help. Overfilled the Ferrari oil. Broke the R8 windshield, etc etc.

Moral of the story,
Get yourself a land cruiser with 450k miles it would still be more reliable

Lmao it’s dead Jim, the only way your going to stop pressure in the 2 duff cylinders is to pull the plugs if the HG is that far gone or the head is cracked it will just pressurise the crankcase , blow oil out, blow hoses and seals hence why the rocker covers as peeing oil out - give it a Viking funeral
Mrflash222006 yeah that's what I was about to post. Unhooking the coil packs doesn't stop it pumping air through the blown gasket.
sealer won't help this engine in a million years...
Yeah like the ocean doesnt have enough junk in it.
When looking for engine parts... See BMW catalog. Same v8 used in the 5\7 series.
Yeah cuz BMW parts are inexpensive😑🤣
@@wyelandlebeouf7202 Funny you say that, but they are cheaper than the LandRover branded parts.
Wyeland Lebeouf They’re cheap if you know where to look. I get parts for my BMW from FCP Euro and other online sites. I spend no more on parts than my VW diesel Golf and Honda Civic. Being a dealer mechanic I also get discounts when I order parts via my workplace regardless of vehicle make.
@@wyelandlebeouf7202 Used parts arent too bad though. An engine from a u-pull-it is a few hundred, $750 at a salvage yard. Or buy a whole 540/740/X5 for peanuts, use the engine and part out/scrap the rest.

I remember when I was homeless, it is no fun being homeless, the hardest part about being homeless is trying to smell fresh smelling and to give the appearance that you are not homeless. I had gotten a job at JCPenneys Warehouse and I was so happy that I was finally going to get in to get out of being homeless and I got terminated within the first week and a half because people didn't want to work with me because I smelled horrible and I did my best to freshen up. I was working to get a paycheck and I was going to buy shampoos with my paycheck, it's a horrible thing being homeless. But I'm not homeless anymore I have a, I live in a two-bedroom apartment and I get a disability because I have autism and I'm also bipolar so but overall I'm not homeless anymore and I prayed my way out of being homeless and I never asked a bag to anybody for money because being homeless was my problem
At least you tried, homie.
Homeless people are the only people who live outside the Matrix. They see the world for what it is. Congrats on your apartment.

Think about what the water did to the engine parts like the bearing journals and bearings ! If you can't drive a car with the idea that you won't get stranded ,it is never considered fixed! Hey Sam. Just get a "new" engine from a junkyard. Do not invest any more money into that POS engine with blown head gasket and a warped head. If you have got the budget, do an LS3 swap....you will have a super high performance Range Rover and never have a parts problem again.
Sam's self-imposed challenge is to see if he can get this running with cheap fixes for a cheap-bought vehicle. He's not actually interested in getting it back to high performance or even keeping it in his collection.

You could attempt to cut the banjo fitting off the stock hose and just get a length of hose rated for oil at the auto parts store and clamp the banjo fitting on... would work better if you could roll your own bead on the end of the factory barb after it's cut to keep it from slipping off. The only thing I've ever seen liquid head gasket repair do is clog heater cores.
That's because people don't read the directions - you have to do a coolant flush after you run the fix. But, even then it's not a 100% guarantee. I'm 1-for-3 myself, liquid head gasket repair is definitely a last-ditch effort for an engine that isn't worth tearing down to rebuild **glares at my 01 Chevy Venture**
@@KevinFields777 I used the $35 bottle on my Impala's 3400, probably same engine you have. It does not require draining the coolant, just drop it in. Took a few days of running it 30 minutes to circulate before it stopped blowing white smoke. That was 8 years and 35K miles ago, still runs just fine. I probably had a small head gasket leak, the 3400s are iron blocks with aluminum heads, the different expansion rates break the gaskets at high mileage (190K for me). If you overheated bad, then heads are probably bad. Those engines are dirt cheap and plentiful, I'd just replace it entirely.
