DIY Timber Trailer w. Hydraulic Crane Hauling Firewood

- The remaining firewood cut down in February and March is hauled in with my homemade Peugeot powered UTV and 4x4 timber trailer (the hydraulic crane is bought). Firewood is sorted in two separate piles - one for bucking and splitting, the other one for guillotine firewood processor again. The last time I didn't bother wasting time on sorting the firewood with hydraulic crane grapple and paid the price and did it manually later. This time I thought I'd let the machine do the work instead. This telescoping version of the Forstman FM crane series is great (some versions don't have the telescopic option). It greatly improves the work radius. Also the hydraulic radio winch - once you get used to it you never want to go without it again.

I just watched a 25 minute video of a grown man playing 'Pick Up Sicks'. And I liked it.
I was thinking about that while watching the video, and realized the man playing pick up sticks is using a trailer that he built, and pulled by a utility vehicle he also built. And I know he built them because I watched all the build videos.
That is a LOT of wood hauled to the house. And it makes me miss helping cut and stack firewood. And we didn't have nearly as cool toys to help us.
Donn, you have some of the coolest useful toys. And what's more, you BUILT them yourself.
That 8WD UTV + trailer combo is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Very happy to have the opportunity to see you put it to good use. Loved watching the builds of these, impressive that they actually work and are durable. Well done. Thanks for sharing with us!!!
Both those machines are so cool. This crane is such an improvement on the old ATV trailer and crane. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much Donn! I was so excited to see the result of your hard work in action. This would be perfect on my woodlot!
I want to see PTO drive in action!!!!😢
Yeah, a PTO hydraulic pump so the screaming Honda can go bye-bye.
Yes.. how does this work with operation on all 8 wheels:) eagerly waiting for a test of this:)
A hydraulic pump on the UTV would be so nice. The
larger engine must be more efficient at lower revs. Would be fun to see you build a pump on the UTV. Love your videos and your creativity.
Glad my great grandparents left Sweden and Denmark. I am enjoying the 80 degree weather and sunshine. Good to see you using those machines. Look forward to another build.
Very well done. You deserve to feel satisfied at the results of all the work you put into your machines.
I am satisfied.👍 But as I'm using the machines there are always thoughts creeping up in my mind how I could modify and rebuild things to get them even better.😀
@@DonnDIY that is the sign of a true genius!
Always thinking of how to improve your tools!
Thanks for the extra effort recording and sharing!! Much appreciated!
Perfect timing for a new Donn DIY - lunchtime at work 🙂 I'm impressed with the reach of that forestry crane, nice stuff.
Great to see the UTV and timber hauler you built and the hydraulic crane all still working like a champ. They sure do the job really well. Thanks for sharing with us Donn. Keep up the great videos and the fun you have around there and making videos. Fred.
That FM50 Is like a glove! 💪
Need a better hydraulic system now on the UTV.👍 That powerpack is puny.
Boys and their toys. Good job wish I had one
❤ well Done wonderful machine and good reach with the new crane pretty stable and strong 💪🏻
Looks like work but your having way too much fun, good job
Hello from Finland. Nice work
Good to see your machines earning their keep.
Close to one MILLION subscribers, congrats ! You really deserve it
I have begun to winch the "not ridicilously large" trees to the trailer, then de-limbing and bucking there while the crane is holding the trunk in working height. Easier to work, but lets me use the crane to stack all the limbs and twigs in a big pile on the other side of the trailer as I work. Added 60cm long extenders to the log holders on the trailer to be able to load it with a lot more when driving away limbs and twigs afterwards.
Really cool to see you "use your stuff" ;-)
Man that trailer is a beautiful work of art. Well done Don. Tks for sharing
Would like to see maintenance and improvements you will do throughout the years on these projets since you build and use them yourself. You could show back how it was built when you fix on maintain it to see evolution. Keep us posted, nice work.
Great to see how useful your machines are, in use, performing well.
Thanks Donn! 👍💪✌
Another great video, thank you for sharing, always a pleasure watch your project, thank a lot 👍👍👍👍
Another hard day work! Good job!
Awesome! Works pretty good!
Now you need a stump grinder. Custom built of course.
Yup, I've thought about building one but have had more important things to do first.😀
I reached for my phone when your camera fell! Got me!
idk if they have the claw game in your country but you gonna be one of the best lol awesome work man as always
Great equipment build. Did you ever get the final connection from the Ute to the trailer final drive figured out?
I love work. It's so interesting to watch.
Your ATV with crane trailer, this work was really worth it! 👍This is simply also technology with soul, made by yourself. Man 💁♂️ looks at it with satisfaction! 👍🫶✌️
Donn DIY, Subscribed because your videos are so much fun!
Caramba! Esse cara é um gênio.
Carregando a carga de um caminhão nesse carrinho.
Интересный агрегат. Классная задумка и исполнение!
Looks nice and works nice...good job mate👍
Thanks for tuning in and watching the vid! 🙏When's your V8 UAZ build gonna continue? That's a beast!👍
@@DonnDIY hopefully soon🙂
Cant wait to see the 8x8 in action😅
Igati õnnestunud projekt. Vägev ja ikka edu uutel tegemistel.
It works great. I think it's only missing one thing. Your next project on the trailer should be a hydraulic side dump bed. It's already awesome, but imagine how nice it would be to just pull up and dump the load all at once.
You're right. I thought about that at some point but didn't want to get the trailer more complicated than it already is.😀 Just keeping things more simple for less maintenance.
What would be interesting if you could build a processing head with a delimer and cut the cants to size . Or would that be too complicated just an idea . Cool to see your trailer and graple working again .
I see you still haven't hooked up the drive to the trailer wheels, do you have plans to do so?
wonderful machine.Have you got any plans for the coupling between the between the power chain and the trailer?
Excelente video 👍
Such a cool unit. So handy.
Good job!!!
Is the trailer differential in operation? I don’t remember if you finished the rear auxiliary shaft.
That is a back saver for sure
Curious why you removed the driveshaft serving the trailer?
Привет я смотрю этот канал давно.имею виду интересно тебе надо часто снимать. Зарубежные идинственное канал.удачи тебе твою семью ❤
Nice to see your logging cart in operation! :)
Perhaps it would be an idea with a plate you could stand more comfortably on while operating the machine?
Great idea! Keep showing your older projects at work, content equals views. Oh, and you need some sort of seat while your loading/unloading, rather than standing on the trailer draw bar.
Väga hea tulemus!
Kas on nüüd praktika käigus ka midagi ümber, paremaks vaja teha.
Nüüd veel võsakiljitiin ka vaja teha.👍👍👍👍
Tahaks nüüd selle haagise 6x6 mini forwarderiks ümber ehitada. Siis oleks metsas mugavam ja efektiivsem manööverdada. UTV-ga on üks paras rong - suhteliselt pikk autorong.
@@DonnDIY
Getting work done!!!
You need to add an operator platform on that trailer. Could fold up to keep the turning clearance on the trailer.
About the only thing you haven't installed is a oil driven chainsaw. Military used them and proved although they work, more work than necessary for any one man. Estonian people must enjoy your labors a lot as its more wood than you use yourself... nice!!
Молодец как всегда
Ôh Yeah ! ....

'1st class workout' : the bestof the best.... only !
Perfect
top.!!!
❤awesome 🇨🇦😁👍🏻
Мужик, ты крут)
I really enjoy your videos. Will you incorporate the guillotine log cutter into a full log processing trailer like your old one with the chain saw to cut the logs to length so you don't have to bend down and do it with a chain saw? The UTV still is so cool. Would a diesel engine work better or is the gas engine doing well? What will you do with the old Pug van donor bodies? Good work on all the projects! 👍
Very satisfying, as always. Tänan sind väga (hope that's correct, blame Google translate otherwise :-)
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼
I always enjoy your content I was just wondering Do you sell your wood or Burn it looks like your new house would be really warm anyway Thank you oh when you knocks us over and picked the can’t back up we didn’t hit that hard the branc in front of us broke the fall a little 😂
👍👍👍!!!
Hi, what are those trees at 3:00? Saw cuts redden like Alder but the bark seems more like Aspen?
👍
👏👏👏👍
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice to see the timber trailer & crane I use. Did you ever connect the PTO to the trailer to use the All Wheel Drive? I’ve never seen you have it connected.
I did connect it and try it out after finishing the trailer build. The drawbar needs some mods and it needs a proper PTO shaft before I can fully utilize the 8x8 drive. However - the UTV itself is capable of pulling the fully loaded trailer even without the drive connected. So I've done just that so far and haven't bothered connecting the drive yet since there are more important things to deal with first (as always 😀).
so what happened to the driveshaft? i want to see all the wheels drive! =)
Does anyone know why Donn never uses the PTO on the UTV to power the wheels of this trailer?
I did a testrun on it but the trailer drawbar needs modifying and a special PTO shaft needs to be built first to fully implement the trailer drive 👍
@@DonnDIY Ahh. Thanks for clarifying that.
Hay, Donn. You need your machines looking for exposition. Maybe you find investor and fabrique open
How much time fo you save with these machines if you compare it how you use to do it?
I save weeks, even close to a month. We used to buck logs and load trailer by hand. Unload trailer by hand. Split wood by hand. Stack wood, unstack wood, restack wood in the barn, then unstack and restack indoors before burning. Now it takes much less time.👍
Have you tested the drive system on the trailer yet?
Yes, I already did it right after finishing the trailer build. It works in straight line but starts to push the UTV when cornering. Thus - a drawbar mod is needed so the UTV and trailer end up on the same turning circle and a custom PTO shaft is also needed. The UTV hasn't had a problem pulling the trailer "as-is" in most conitions so I haven't bothered to finish the drive yet. But I will eventually.👍
Are you fishing in that lake?
What kind of wood is that, it looks quite orange.
Is wood green?
Nii suur tiik! Kas seda isa oli kaevanud või mis ajast see on?
What’s happened to the mini bike
Discretion is the better part of valour :)
What is the top speed of that utv.? 😉
And i still think that you need a bigger engine for that Hydraulic station of yours.. 😆
You're right. Having an on-board hydraulic system on the UTV would be best. Top speed of the UTV is the original Peugeot Partner (year 2000) 1.4 litre 55kW 160-170kph speed divided by the BMW E39 reduction which was around 3-ish.

What species of tree is this?
Alder and birch. Alder is that red one
He gave up on the mini bike.???
Hi
is there any planting also going on ?
Looks like a spring .. Lot of smoking material.. where is the salmon..
Ще раз таке лайно,і відписка.
No idea how much that wood weighs green. But one piece of trunk at a time seems picking them up by hand hand and stacking trailer much faster and efficient?
