This series is jam packed, there's mystery, fantasy, action and full of "science" I'm so happy that you started this series, your reactions are so entertaining to watch, it gives me life. Amazing amazing reaction Topher.
Do not forget about the Thailand believes and their folklore story about the king of bird Garuda and naga!!! It's so deep so interesting that the sign use this story for the series. Hats of to everyone involved to this series and the novel
I hope you keep watching, 'cause it's so good. I started as an an afterthought, but now I'm hooked. There is a main plot besides the BL part and so far the series screams budgeeeeet. Saint poured money on it (Saint from Why R U?, he's the CEO/producer).
Just thought I would clarify for you that the naga (gyarados thingie) and the woman were not the same entity. Phaya turned around away from the monster to see her.
Glad you are checking this out, the plot (yes the actual plot 🤣) is so intriguing! Together with *I Feel You Linger in the Air* (check it out too if you already haven't, it's historical romance with supernatural etc elements) *The Sign* is probably my favourite BL this year - and we have had a lot of good ones!
Now 5 episodes in I think The Sign is pretty good balance of mystery, action, fantasy and romance - without forgetting comedic moments too. It's a lot to take in, but if they can pull it off and keep it together until the end then this one will surely be one of the great ones!
Yes the plot 👀 but also! This show is just so good! The action, the crime stuff, the supernatural stuff, the romance and it's full of handsome men lol like what's not to like?
These need their own genre.. These shows arent BL.. they are just lgbt stories...
26:10 Remember that just like I explained about Bump up business when you thought he was brother zoned when the subtitles said bro/brother/little brother that it is just how it gets translated and not necessarily said meaning actual brother.
In east asian countries you address people with things like in Korea "hyung" (older brother) or here in Thailand "Phi" (older sibling) and both often is translated to brother or bro in the subs but it's not like saying brother in english. It's basically just tells you that they are close and that the hyung and phi is the older one.
They would use these titles if they were boyfriends too.
In Bump up they used "dongsaeng" and in Thai series you have "nong" literal meaning is younger sibling and here and in bump it's translated to little brother BUT it just tells you that the person is younger it doesn't mean it's an actual brother or that they see them in a brotherly way.
Most BL couples in Korean series are hyung/dongsaeng and in Thai series phi/nong since one is older and one younger often.
Since east asian countries cultures have age hierarchy you use honorifics and titles when addressing people 1 or more years older than you and even though the direct translation might be older brother or older sibling or uncle etc it's not like in english. Sure the one you say it to could be blood related too but most times it's not.
So it can be confusing for westerners when the subtitles say uncle, or brother etc but it isn't an actual brother but a friend or lover.
This goes for basically all east asian countries, it's in all the Korean and Thai series you have watched and all the rest too. I think I explained this to you when you were confused watching Jun & Jun too.
In Korean and Thai BL's you often see how happy and meaningful and more like a couple they get when they drop more formal business titles like in Bump up they went from saying Sunbaenim to hyung or in Thai series it could be from Khun to Phi because they go from more formal to what you would use for a bf (or just closer than how you address a colleague, employee or boss etc). It's more intimate, less formal.
I wish they would just romanize it instead of translating because writing brother in eng subs seem to confuse people who don't know about the culture and language.
It's worth looking into honorifics a little if you watch these series just to not get too confused.

This series is a great mix of crime, drama, romance, fantasy, thriller, mythology........allsorts. It isn't like the vast majority of BL's which is what drew me to it originally but now the plot is what keeps me watching.
I admit that i'm interested to see what the reactions are because this (and Last Twilight) are the dramas that I am having my own strongest reactions to right now.

i also went into this show not knowing much about it, and was really surprised that SO MUCH STUFF happened in the first episode, but this show is honestly one of the highlights of my week now. the plot certainly is juicy! and i think you're right, it doesn't take itself seriously, and that makes it a great watch

In the US people hardly need any training or education to become police or work in prisons right?
In other countries it's thorough psych tests and years of school and in the US just a few months?
These are not just cops , these guys are a special unit form out of the police force, so they get the crack the toughest cases the police couldn’t solve. That’s why their training was more intense.

I've watched it but i came to binge watch it over with you.... Want to see if you love it as much as i do....
I found the first episode very so-so. The character introductions were so confusing for me because it was dark and they were mostly covered from head to toe, so I couldn't tell who was who or what was going on. The training montage went on too long, and the psychic flashes weren't well placed for me to know what I was supposed to notice. The shower butt scenes were randomly thrown in there purely to be eye candy. However! I feel like it really improves after this episode. The characters start being more 3-dimensional, the plot starts making more sense, and generally the quality goes way up. This is all my opinion, of course.
I’m looking forward to seeing where they take these character in the coming episodes

The police special unit in my country has the same kind of training! Its not unique for this series! I can tell you this is not Unforgotten Night!
It’s an ok show with certain aspects that are good. It’s a bit too longwinded imo. And the score is way dramatic 😂 The whole mystery of the mcs past relationship and what exactly happened there are what keeps me going back… and they are both fine! 😂❤ And I love 🐉 and anything mystical/mythical being incorporated in BLs
