Let’s be real… Steam starting the refund train and the fact that this many countries wouldn’t allow people to play a game THEY PAID FOR OVER 3 MONTHS AGO was not something they could get away with. They saw the hit coming to their wallets and bailed. Light was shone on them and enough people turned and looked that they had to back pedal. But, a win is a win. Fuck corporate greed.

it’s my personal headcanon that the review-bombing and massive player drop-off is known as “The Great Helldiver Revolt.” basically just helldivers taking leave of absences for “better working conditions”
That would result in those Helldivers being executed for reason or sent to the freedom camps though. Sony's supposed to be the automatons, not Super Earth.
Sony basically taking a shot at a community built on the premise of working as one to literally wipe problems off the map was not their finest moment. Our community was one of the very few that could have managed something like this in so little time.
It's funny, as a member of the War Thunder community, we did the same thing almost exactly a year ago and it did have the same consequence of the publisher (which is also the dev in WT's case) having to roll back or change unpopular elements. Good job everyone.
I'm not a Helldivers player, so this has been an absolute trip to watch unfold from a distance. Really glad to see it turn out this way. Hope you Helldivers players from every part of the world have a great time for years to come.
I remember you once said you bear a curse, that anything you predict will always be wrong. Yesterday you predicted it was too late for Sony to walk this back. Today they walked it back. I think you've found a way to use this curse to do good.
That cape idea is the best way to memorialize the games most tumultuous weekend so far. Now the game just needs to be relisted in all regions on Steam.
I also raised my eyebrows at that statement, "We're still learning what's best for PC players blah blah blah". Forcing us into the PlayStation environment is absolutely not what's best for us. I may already have a PS account linked, but I believe entry into that cesspool should be a choice. Not a requirement that must be met in order to play a game you may have already purchased for a platform which is nearly, completely unrelated to PlayStation.
This is the Saddest state/insanity of gaming ever. Imagine being a year 0 og xbox/playstation console user (ur the true ones who got xbox/playstation to the position theyre in today) and microsoft/Sony tells you "we are still learning whats best for PC players" LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Remember back in the SANE days when PC players was getting annoyed on purpose and microsoft/sony was focusing on making good games for their first class xbox/playstation console citizens? We are truly living in the end times of BASIC SANITY. Instead of them learning whats best for PC players - they should go back to learning whats best for making great consoles that ship with good complete games......like the OLD SANE FUNCTIONING DAYS. LOL u cant make this up. as more and more time goes by....u can just witness insanity taking over more and more we contine to let weirdos run the show. FIre phil spencer.
🙄 I don’t understand why people are reacting to that line. It’s not some imbedded code speak. You just need to translate corpo speech to regular talk. “We are still learning…” is just a way to save face. It’s saying “we messed up” without being direct. “What’s best for PC players” is actually quite direct. Sony spent 2 decades trying to create an exclusive environment for their titles and effectively locked out anyone without a PlayStation from playing their games for years. They want to take a bite out of the PV gamer market but they still have this mindset of creating an exclusive ecosystem. They are actually learning, and hopefully they can extrapolate these experiences for future decisions.. Lastly, one thing that I have noticed after watching Charlie and Asmongold talk about this situation is that there is a concerted effort to try and create a narrative as to WHY Sony would do this or find out some type of greedy motivation. In my opinion- this whole situation was probably just an accident. Sony (I think) wasn’t trying to pull a fast one or get greedy, they were just trying to implement the plan they had from the beginning- mandatory account linking. The whole “why sell it to these countries..” argument is valid, but doesn’t mean they were being malicious. Whoever handles distribution probably wasn’t made aware that they SHOULD blacklist countries without PSN accounts. That’s an easy mistake to make in a big corporation. Another explanation is that the people handling distribution just fucked up there. A third explanation is that steam may have fucked up and not implemented the distribution plan correctly. Obviously these are all problematic, but they are hardly “evil! Bad!” Sonys willingness to walk back with this statement just goes to show that they really like money. They don’t want to restrict access to their game. They probably didn’t even realize so many countries had these issues with PSN accounts when they made the decision to require account linking. Lastly, for all the countries who have the “must own a PS4 or PS5” requirement- there is probably a good reason for that. A lot of hackers come from these Eastern European countries and (just a guess) the requirement to own a console is probably just a way to prevent as many hackers. They probably don’t sell many titles to PC users in those countries as well. I’m not a Sony fanboy or anything like that, but I do enjoy my PS5. I’m glad people worked together to fix this problem and I’m glad Sony made the decision to walk back the requirements.
@@ryanramsey4376"they realized their mistake"? Really?! All they did was cancel a patch. They never said they would remove the PSN requirement. It's still listed as required on the steam page. They just wanted to get the review scores back up before next weeks investor call.
Helldivers seriously is the best example of what a “live service” is. Helldivers is so over the top badass and goofy is amazing. All the updates have made me so immersed.
And there's still so much more content coming. Vehicles, massive enemies, entirely new factions. I really think as long as they keep raking in the cash, the sky is the limit for this game.
They have an investor call next week. Of course they wanted to make sure their number 1 game wasnt going of the rails right at this second. The requirement is still listed on their store page. Their statement just said this specific patch wouldnt move forward. They didnt say they would never try again in the future. This is the most "nothing happened and everyone cheered" thing.
Lets be honest here, it was not the players ranting that made them reverse course, it was Steam offering the refund. If Steam didn't do that, SOE would have told players to sit on a stick and spin. Honestly, I don't think Sony will do anything regarding HD2 in the future. I think they freaked out because so many people killed their SOE sub due to the SB boycott, and it is close to the end of the quarter. So they thought they could boost their numbers this way to look good on their quarterly report. The only thing that changed their mind, was that so many refunds were happening after Steam allowed it, they realized that was even worse than the lost subs and folded.

Mine's the Automatons hijacking Helldiver High Command and handing out mandatory resignation letters to all active Helldivers.

I remember you once said you bear a curse, that anything you predict will always be wrong. Yesterday you predicted it was too late for Sony to walk this back. Today they walked it back. I think you've found a way to use this curse to do good.

They need to give up trying to charge me a second internet bill
What's crazy is in Sony support you can't submit any feedback, so I think people were canceling existing accounts
That cape idea is the best way to memorialize the games most tumultuous weekend so far. Now the game just needs to be relisted in all regions on Steam.
apparently they're working on that rn
Bro “Hey Divers” had me cryibg
When I heard “I love when gamers win” my brain went “I hope so you have a gaming org”
As my brother said: “They really tried messing with the community that killed 2bil bugs in 16hrs”.

@@PHIL-SPENCER-HATES-XBOXCONSOLE Holy fuck you're actually mentally unwell
Bad!”
Sonys willingness to walk back with this statement just goes to show that they really like money.

The 4 second long stare at the beginning was the pure definition of just woke up
They have an investor call next week. Of course they wanted to make sure their number 1 game wasnt going of the rails right at this second. The requirement is still listed on their store page. Their statement just said this specific patch wouldnt move forward. They didnt say they would never try again in the future. This is the most "nothing happened and everyone cheered" thing.

@@parnellomellobot or crackhead with major desperation?
Sad, but probably true.
