Well, this video is "back" after having been blocked internationally for a few days due yet another illegal copyright claim from Fremantle/Buzzr on public domain (non-copyrighted) video material. Yay. I'm still waiting for Fremantle to remove all the other dozens of false copyright claims still in force on my video posts, unblock the half dozen other episodes on this channel STILL illegally blocked by them, and once and for all, REMOVE ALL THIS PUBLIC DOMAIN MATERIAL FROM CZcams'S CONTENT ID SYSTEM. They know full well that this material is all in the public domain, but, hey, they're a giant media company. They can do whatever they want.
For those unfamiliar with this situation who would like to read more about it, including the totally disingenuous and dishonest comment from Buzzr trying to pretend that four years' worth of their abuse of the Content ID system was all just an "honest human error" over this one episode, please see my comment and the replies to it on their video of a short clip from this episode: czcams.com/video/d5Ak9lje2MU/video.html
It would really, really help if viewers would show support for the WML channel by upvoting supportive comments there. Every comment they've received so far has been an expression of outrage from fans. Thank you!
YT's "copyright dispute system is broken.... I could claim ownership of this, and YT would hassle you, AND make the me the arbiter of it.
Fight on brother! I had the same problem. Can you belive it? THEY HAVE BLOCKED MY YT VIDEO BECAUSE OF COPYRIGHT CLAIM ON SONGS FROM WWI!
Apparently there is a way to copystrike your own content so no one else can, and so you can keep both revenue and the video open.
When the new copyright laws where made the big providers, aka specialist, did not attend or help because they where protesting against it. Thus those involved could not draw on the expertise that would have helped form a better law.
In short, they shot themselves in the foot...

That is so cool.
Jim Vines Presents... that’s incredible. I hope you asked him many many questions about who and what he knew. You had a front row opportunity to learn so much.
@@oldnurse Unfortunately, I didn't really do that. Like his experiences during WW II, he didn't talk too terribly much about his fabulous career. Sure, I had heard little stories here and there, and when I was young I went to various tapings and met some of his friends who were big names in the business, but that's pretty much it. He died in 2011 at the age of 92 and I remember someone saying to him a few years prior to that, "You should write a memoir." He said, "Yeah, I could." But that's as far as it went. But the main thing: He was a GREAT dad. Just great. I'm proud of him on so many levels -- and his career is just one of them.

It really hurts that she came to a sad end.
When it comes to physical beauty, I think Dorothy was miles ahead of Arlene.
Every modern politician should study this video. Eleanor Roosevelt had the ability to appeal to everyone high and low. How did she do it? Humility, finding delight in every subject, and self-depreciating laughter. Lovely woman.
Unless a persons actions change the ratio, treat people with 100% empathy and 0% judgement.
Always blows my mind how Dorothy is able to narrow down the person's line. Every time she is asking questions, she gets either very close or discovers the line

John Daly, the moderator, is remarkable for his joie de vivre, his respect (both for the panel and for the guests), his commitment to the business in hand, his intelligence, his use of language and his absence of affectation . . .
True and he always seem truly delighted whenever the panel answers incorrectly 😂😂😂

True and a monumental outrage ! When the parents finally realized this was happening at my grandchildren's schools down in Georgia a few years ago, All Hell Broke Loose. Common Core and C Scope are still being fought tooth and nail all over the country as well.
In their later years people can have difficulty writing. Too writing neatly with chalk on a vertical surface isn't the same as writing with a pen on paper on a tabletop.
That's because we practiced the Palmer method of cursive handwriting diligently at school and even got graded on our report cards. It was common for schools to even have handwriting contests. I won a beautiful Papermate ballpoint pen!
Arlene was such a gem❤️ witty and funny! Still can't believe I am watching a show that's super entertaining 70years after taping!!
I remember watching this show weekly as a child. These panelists had class.
I love that the ladies stood to shake her hand.
It was expected 70 years ago 😊
My mother absolutely adored Eleanor. What grace and what passion.
Eleanor Roosevelt was an exceptional lady, probably the most publicly active of all our First Ladies, she was FDR's legs (and heart) and her messages helped to keep spirits up during the war. I never saw her, but have read a lot about this remarkable lady!
Eleanor's role in post-WW II America was immense. She and Harry Truman did an incredible amount of work to preserve "democratic action" from attacks by Marxist agitators and sympathizers. It is not clear how much the panel would have cared for what they did. By 1953, both had been pushed out to the margins of the Democratic Party and many "Truman Democrats" had voted for Dwight Eisenhower for President.
Globalist socialist shill.
A Communist through and through. Stalin was truly “Uncle Joe” to both her and her husband.
😢🎉🎉🎉
She’s far better than the current lady we have in office.
This made me cry. I remember this time, when people were respected for their service. Not their greed. The Roosevelts were rich. They also served their country.
Back then, people were judged on their merits rather than skin color.

This was the early days of TV and the sets were VERY expensive, so the shows tended to be targeted towards a higher educational level, as those were the ones who could affrod to actually watch the shows. They're my favorite couple that's occupied the White House. True leaders, both of them
They are both men and did nothing good for our country but did help Satan's future world in which is here now.
Actually, Pres. Roosevelt could have did more for Black Americans. Many who served in the military were unable to buy homes with their housing certificates nor use their GI Bill to attend college. Planned housing developments with all the amenities (e.g., parks, pools, playgrounds, nearby shopping centers with movie theaters, etc.) were built for Whites only. Blacks didn't have civil rights and were still regulated to low paying jobs.
Mrs. Roosevelt on the other hand fought for civil rights and equality for all.

@@texan903 Or the car.
I love the fact that the host of the show had to answer Mrs. Roosevelt's questions for the first few rounds, because her voice was so distinctive, the players would have guessed who she was immediately, if she had answered them herself!
Gore Vidal, in one of his essays, said it best when he commented on her funeral and said, "Well, now, we are truly on our own."
Wow! That’s a beautiful way to express how the nation felt without her. She was so much more than a First Lady, she was a true servant of this country, she fought for equal rights, for clean water and decent housing. She was doubted by many yet she prevailed and made her own incredible legacy.
I doubt Japanese Americans who had been interned by her husband, to which she had no public objection, were so smitten.
@@nicmart mmm
Wow, Arlene Francis was such a beautiful, intelligent woman.
Walk down memory lane, as a young girl I greatly admired her. She was a tremendous asset to the country.
And what a wonderful smile! Super cute purse!! I fondly remember collecting coins for "trick or treat for UNICEF". Thank you Eleanor Roosevelt . 🗽💙💚🗽
FDR was a communist. Wake up.
@@rosaritamaria4414 wow, FDR was a communist?? Really?? Please please redo high school social studies. Please.
Eleanor Roosevelt was an amazing lady. I think I did a report on her in high school, and was struck by her zest for life. She was very regimented - turning and rotating her mattress every single morning.
Hello Dear
How are you doing today?
Is anyone else just captivated by Bennett Cerf's smile? He seems like an ordinary enough looking guy, getting on in years, but then he smiles and the whole place lights up. Some people just have that.
Also it was so cute when Dorothy Kilgallen realized who the mystery guest was because you could see her getting very nervous all of a sudden because she was sitting around making guesses at freaking Eleanor Roosevelt! She has my sympathy, I think I'd have suddenly gone blank in her place.
this is a historic show with the wife of FDR as the mystery guest
+Randy A. Lovering absolutely---
Yes, she was the wife of a President, Randy, but she was also her own person, with a lifetime of service to this country and to the rest of the world as well. I admire her tremendously, as I do her husband.
YES!
Not only his wife, but his cousin, also. I suppose when one comes from old money, you do your best to keep it in the family.
We have this in 1953 and now we have the dolts on The Bachelor, Big Brother and numerous other shows. Devolution at rapid speed.
Clicked on this just to hear Eleanor Roosevelt speak. Ended up watching the whole show.
We will never see another Eleanor Roosevelt but we sure could use her now. Wonderful human being.
Nutbag Hillary channels her. They are two of a kind.
Tommy Truth Don't insult Eleanor like that
ursamagick we could use her now? What did she do to prove herself? Qualify your statement.
Tommy, you're making a fool of yourself. You might want to think before commenting.
Sonny Crockett You know, you really need to stop projecting your own attributes, or lack thereof, onto other people. You, sir, are one crass barbarian.
Eleanor Roosevelt was a wonderful person.
This episode brought me to tears. Literally. Remember when being an American meant there were people who were in leading positions to be proud of. Once the US President's wife was known for her leading role in promoting world peace, diplomacy, humanitarianism and popularizing the work of the United Nations. Now the President's wife is best known for her superficial glamorous looks and her recent contributions in the pornograpy industry.
Dorothy Kilgallen is always the best guesser. Mrs. Roosevelt seems to be enjoying herself, too.
That Reminginton 60 deluxe electric shaver looks spectacular
Harrison Lee ...you can buy the Remington 60 deluxe at eBay. They're cheap.
As historian and political scientist, I thank you for sharing your 'library'. This show. in particular, is important to me in many ways.
Thanks for the video. Eleanor Roosevelt was a lovely lady. She did a lot of good during her lifetime.
What an awesome piece of historical television! I wish people today were kind and respectful like they appeared on this show…🤔❤️
Not just TV history
Eleanor Roosevelt communicated in up-to-date and progressive methods. One of the earliest surviving radio broadcast recordings (1929) features Eleanor giving a public speech as New York first lady. She, of course, wrote that column. For years. Here she is on early WML in 1953. She did a margarine commercial in the late 1950s, which is sort of inexplicable. Gil Fates wrote this was a rare instance where the mystery guest got a 1000 dollar appearance fee, donated to her favorite part of the UN.
The margarine commercial was because butter and milk were at a premium, using margarine was to help in getting us to use it instead of butter!
And whose sons all served with U.S. armed forces distInction in WWII. No bone-spur exemptions requested for the president's sons.
Watching this historic piece makes me realize just how deep we have sunk. Everyone was so decent and polite and respectful. If I had watched this in 2000, I would certainly still think there had been quite a bit of erosion. But watching it now I see how that process has rapidly accelerated in just the last few years. Manners and courtesy have been replaced with rudeness and entitlement.
2 Timothy 3:2
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, The Bible spelled it all out in plain english thousands of years ago but nobody wants to believe it.
@@prmayner Well, it wasn't exactly english until relatively recently
@@Andrew42520 very true.
Only one-way to describe Eleanor Roosevelt. The greatest woman in politics ever.
One of the most qualified women who could have been president of the United States in history.
Mrs Roosevelt certainly deserved the respect and admiration she received from Mr Daly and the panel when she was exiting the show. A very gracious and strong lady whom I admire.
Such a wise and elegant first lady Mrs Roosevelt was
Here here ... So polite and so enduring. Rest in peace Eleanor and thank you.
To be accurate (as in those articulate, grammatically accurate days) - "hear, hear"
Wow the incredible Eleanor Roosevelt . Amazing to see and hear her 💕
This was a very gracious and warm moment in time, and it reminds me of how civil our world was in the past.
Arlene Francis is a cool lady. Ahead of her time. Class act
who cares when Eleanor Roosevelt graces the stage..
Richard Bradford I am a Canadian and Eleanor Roosevelt was a great person, I admire her very much. Did not like her husband that much. She was very rich but she had a very difficult life, suffer from Depression.
I have never understood what saying that someone was ahead of his or her time means. What is it about a time after Arlene’s life that was or is more appropriate for her?
@@hogfarmersforjustice4804 can't you imagine her twerking to a hip-hop cover of "Hello, Dolly", on the street, with a purple dyed hair and a fanny pack?
That's not a first time I read that, and I don't know what they mean by that either. They were a people of their time, with all their virtues and flaws. Nothing more, nothing less.
REMARKABLE FOOTAGE OF MY FAVOURITE FIRST LADY...FAMOUS FOR HER GENIUS QUOTES!
I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS SHOW....HAVING HER ON THIS SHOW.
THANK YOU
Omg her face is so grim when she’s not actively smiling, but the smile is one of the brightest I’ve ever seen. 🥰
With how frequent early tv shows (especially game shows) were taped over as it was common practice, it makes me happy this episode has survived and can be easily viewed 70 years onward. What a historical piece of media this is
Eleanor had that same accent as Katherine Hepburn. It had an English flair to it, but was in actuality common with the upper classes on the east coast from New York City on up.
Yes, it is called a Mid-Atlantic accent. Probably only exists today in a few (very) elderly folks in the Northeast.
She was educated in England when a teen.🎈🎈
The Kennedys also spoke that way, particularly Jackie.
Check out Moira Rose's accent in Schitt's Creek. Very similar
A fine description of the origin of "Mid-Atlantic" accent exists at Wikipedia. Also, Tom Lehrer lampooned the accent with his "Fight Fiercely, Harvard" czcams.com/video/lWbU2DuWSGE/video.html
I have never seen this show… It’s absolutely adorable… Always these people are really cordial and pleasant… I wish they would have something like that now but it probably would not be the same at all because being polite and cordial seems to have left out the building
Jenny Kennedy I watched it as a child and teen. Today’s celebrities are far too self centered and obnoxious and proud of it. The show would be nothing like this. People were just far more polite, considerate, and mannerly back then. I miss it. Our culture now seems to celebrate extremes of bad behavior -- Jerry Springer show, etc.
Agreed!
I don’t want to be a downer but I lived during this time. It would be rare if ever you’d see anyone but white people on a show like this. Before Civil Rights and before women’s and children’s rights as we know today. I’m white and had a good life then and now but it wasn’t all polite, cordial and adorable for everyone.
True comment, ... but don't give up on the Human race, stay pleasant and cordial yourself and enjoy those who return it. Take care Jenny. (tip of hat to you)
At that time and even before, people were expected to do their best in every area. Rudeness was not allowed. Bad manners, bad english , crass conversation was not acceptable like it is today.
As a young child in the early '60's, What's My Line was one of the TV shows I watched with my Grandparents, but did not know the show had been on TV back as far as 1953. Steve Allen was the original Tonight Show host before Johnny Carson and Jay Leno. What great memories and celebrities this show brings back into the future of today. Thanks for this channel!
WMĹ started in 1950😊
Oh my gawd, if I ever met Eleanor Roosevelt in person, I would be so awe struck I would not be able to speak at first. She was such a wonderful, intelligent, well-rounded, worldly, caring woman I think I would bow down to her.
Today is my birthday, and I'm glad to be old enough to understand the importance and the graceful, meaningful existence of this extraordinary woman who endured so very much and enriched so very much more. I was a little kid, and every Most Admired Women List always always Always had Mrs. Roosevelt trading no. 1 spot back'n'forth with Helen Keller.
Mrs Roosevelt has a great smile!
At first I was like - what are you talking about. And then I saw it and felt a deep desire to give her a big hug.
She's 71 here. Think of how amazing this is, someone so associated with the Great Depression, just 20 years before, and now appearing on this amazing new invention.
