If there was something inherently wrong with this building, I get it, but it looks like it was solid. They don"t make buildings of this quality anymore. Society needs to start thinking of re use plans for historic structures instead of tearing them down. Such a waste!
Agreed. And, repurposing of resources when a structure does have to be demolished.
Yeah. What's inherently wrong is that other than the entrance, it was a boring cookie cutter building with no redeeming value other than the land it sat on. Any new building on the site has to be an improvement, or at least can't be any worse. Sorry, but unless you can point to something of historic significance that happened in them not all buildings need to be saved. The ease with which it was coming down, doesn't tell me that it was a well-made solid building to begin with.
Louis, Any older masonry building is going to come down easily under hydraulic pressure. Just because it is old doesn't make it bad. At the end of the day it all comes down to $$, which is sad. Bet that building would be 110% more structurally sound then any crap they replace it with.

@@LJB103 LOL. Yes, college campuses across the country are forced to tear down their historical buildings and scrap their past just so they can provide their student communities with high speed internet. This argument, in regards to completely leveling a building is completely laughable.
But, for the record, this wasn’t about old versus modern. Strayer University closed this campus, along with 19 other locations for this for-profit institution. So, these buildings and properties were actually sold. So, this , like many office buildings could have simply been reconditioned and repurposed, instead of being completely discarded.

The lack of salvage is sickening. That one door toward the end of the video is a prime example. Why couldn’t workers grab and save it? It could’ve been donated to Habitat for Humanity or could have gone to a salvage yard or repurpose store. I’m always harping on doors when watching these videos. But, go to a hardware store and cost the price of doors AND look at the quality of product available at a super inflated price!
There is a company in Chicago that is salvaging and repurposing materials, prior to buildings being demolished. This company salvages hardware, doors, windows and window sashes, tin ceilings, wood planked floors…and they sell everything. People building or renovating condos are buying the used floors from old buildings, doors, etc, etc. We have got to start preserving and repurposing resources. And we have got to stop the continued proliferation of landfills.
Kinda reminds me of the song by Johnny Cash, "One Piece at a Time"
Man! That crank is picking apart that building by the material. Scrap at the scrap heap, masonry on another heap, borderline OCD...
Wonder if the equipment operator shown in the first 17 minutes of this video really knows what he's doing....

The best bit was the entrance, he smashed the hell out of it!, shame you have no more video as buildings like this are the best for demolition!

How about slowing down, recycling and salvaging…and putting less debris into landfills?
@@mackhopper Your only seeing this stage. The materials are recovered if worth while doing so. Maybe you could start a demo/remodel/show em how its done business? Would love to watch your vida also.
@@olddigger7933 a college buddy and I are actually exploring this option. Did you watch the link I posted (here in the comments) about the reclamation company in Durham, NC. I want to start a business much like that…or the highly successful salvage company in Chicago. People are paying good money to repurpose things like old floors and doors in new builds/renovations.
@@mackhopper That sounds like a great plan. Maybe you could flip a few houses using recovered materials?

Dynamite is better
