Hi Mandy, if you are playing the java edition of Minecraft, simply press and hold down the shift key and then, click on the trapdoor. If you are playing the bedrock edition, I fear that feature isn't supported.
Hello you do not give the dimensions of the hole at the beginning of the video

You know, wouldn't it be easier to place down the campfires first and then put the bottom layer of the Onsen rather than having to dig a hole down to the gap and then place down the campfires?
Yes it would have been much easier to place the campfires first. For the sake of visibility, I did so to prevent having smoke clouds throughout the building process.

As stated at the beginning of the video, the hot spring can be of any given shape. Therefore, providing a layout doesn't make much sense.
