      Attel's punch line is so funny that it makes it easy to forget Dave's point: only in death did Patrice finally attain the popularity he sought. 😢
      As Dave pointed out, the bandwagon was quickly filling with people who proved they didn't know or like him by getting so many basic facts wrong.
      I wonder if his family received adequate help after this?

      Given I've listened to Patrice for hundreds and hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours more than any of the others, I gotta say this with all my heart. Patrice O'Neal is the greatest comic genius who ever lived.
      The world could seriously do with him right now. I suspect he'd be as big as Kevin Hart, even with his propensity to burn bridges

    Jimmy called him a psychologist, but Patrice was a philosopher in the truest sense of the word.
    He had a clarity of vision that let him swe the world in ways that most people couldn't, and he had the ability to explain it to other people.

    This is probably one of the only times Opie is totally bearable throughout the whole things. When he's hurt and speaking from the heart he's actually engaging, and you can feel how he's feeling. Much better than his sad attempts at humour

      I feel like things aren’t always what they seem, and Opies annoying sometimes and fucks bits up, but shit was never the same once they all broke up. I just feel like it’s really easy to hate Opie and hard to appreciate the dude and give him props when he’s doing well. He does it to himself I guess but things just have never been the same after they all disbanded, shit sucks

I've listened to so many hours of this show since I discovered it after their implosion, and I know extensively why he's disliked. But hey, he was there, and he was part of what made it legendary.     Telling that not only did O&A fall apart not long after he passed, but the comedy scene in general took a major down turn patrice was like a lion of comedy he kept the rest of the population in check, never the most "popular" he sort of prowled the watering hole of comedy ready to devour any week pretender chancing upon a sip, an unrelenting icon who had no price. Never will his like be seen again!

    Bought bill burr tickets and the night Patrice died ended being the night we saw bill perform. He made a mention of it before the start of his gig and apologized to us if he were to be off. The show was great but felt bad for Bill knowing he was up there working knowing he was bummed out his good friend passed away.

    I was in high school when he passed. But I remember the first time I heard him, he was talking about the punk test and thinking to myself “this man has almost nothing in common with Opie or Anthony” but the way he articulated himself and brought you into his world was so relatable and hilarious you couldn’t help but just fucking like him man. He’s still my favorite comedian♥️

    The truly sad and tragic thing is if Patrice would've been alive now he'd own the world of podcasting. He would've finally broken through to the mainstream. Imagine a weekly Patrice podcast, imagine how he'd dismantle this PC movement. Throughout his life, he made choices that negatively affected his career. Sadly after he died what he was best at, what he did on O&A, sitting around finding funny in odd shit, became a legit career for a comic. I sincerely believe he would've become a household name, he would've had the power to make the things he wanted to make if only he had lived 10 more years. Fucking tragic.

      Joe Rogan has a great podcast but I never understood what people saw in him as a comedian. I’ve laughed at maybe one of his jokes. The one where he talks about how women don’t know how to properly jerk you off, he said it felt like trying to jerk off with your left hand. Other than that nothing really stood out to me

    Appearances aren't important to louie. Look at his lack of podcast appearances pre Masterbate Gate. I think he made sure to be on this episode because of his love and loyalty to Patrice and stand up.

      But as soon as they started to get all the comics in there and he really lights up and you can hear the love and respect he had for patrice when he told the story of patrice having a drink at his house. And your so right Patrice would dominate the comedy world now especially. He would love Tim Dillon and i can imagine hearing him standing up for shane gillis and louie.
