So sad to see the state they are in. My friends and myself walked them about 25 years ago. Would love to have one more walk through them. They were talks about extending the cinder track to Staithes through them as you briefly mentioned.
Well done for getting to the end of the blocked adit; now we know why it's difficult to find the outside entrance! You must get your portals sorted, Peter. The first one shown is the SOUTH portal of Sandsend Tunnel. The next one is the NORTH end of the same tunnel, that one that is now collapsed. Interesting to see the numbered stones of the refuge arch. It was Margaret Thatcher who famously declared that there was no such thing as society!
