Learn a great phrase to use in English for the topic of food to boost your English vocabulary. This expression is commonly used in English and is also useful for any IELTS students to use in their IELTS test.
The final tip is very important. Now, I understand why I used to lose marks in my Task 2: using idioms. Many thanks Liz! Just a question. Do we lose marks if we use idioms while writing an informal letter (Task 1 General)?
It's ok to use idioms in an informal letter. However, to be honest, idioms are overrated. We don't often use them - I would personally aim for using phrasal verbs and other informal language in such a letter.
Moh Elsaayem Hi, I have put them on my list to make but it will take time. You can still benefit from all the writing task 2 lessons for essay writing as both the academic and GT use the same techniques: ieltsliz.com/category/ielts-writing-task-2/ All the best Liz
xu angelina Most idioms are informal so they are fine to use in speaking but not so appropriate for essay writing. Make sure you use them naturally. If you learn an idiom to get a higher score but use it in the wrong way or at the wrong time, you will actually lower your score. All the best Liz
thank you so much for such a helpful information :D I have been watching for your video recently. I think I like it, very easy to catch :D I am always here to support you :D
This is idiomatic language. We often use the word "greens" to refer to vegetables, particularly green vegetables. This type of language is excellent for the speaking test. However, other idioms, such as "once in blue moon", are overused.
You should avoid informal idioms. As I said, the majority are informal. Instead, you can use other idiomatic language, such as "the key to success.." or "the key to achieving ..." or "the best steps to be taken are ..."- this is not an idiom, but it is classified a idiomatic language. Also remember that your aim to avoid errors. The more errors and wrong choices in language you make, the lower your score.

Hello mam. Can we use idioms in academic writting task 2??
I don't think it is a good idea
Respected madam. I have a query …,(common) Idioms could improve our band score and expresion in ielts speaking
Idioms are not going to make a big difference. You should be aiming to show a range of vocab from different topics rather than just one or two idioms.
mam please tell me that if i am using three idioms in writing essay .... will it be sufficient to score more? ..
See this page: ieltsliz.com/using-quotes-or-idioms-in-your-ielts-essay/
excuse me, can we use Idiom for IELST ?
