  • This is the jingle that went with the old Weather Ball in downtown Minneapolis. The Weather Ball was a victim of the 1982 Thanksgiving Day Fire that destroyed the Bank's Headquarters and Donaldson's Department Store Next Door.

Grand Rapids Michigan had a weather ball in it's down town until 1987 then it was put into storage in until 2004 when Wzzm took it out of moth ball and put it on the broadcast tower by their studios where it remains to this day.

Fire didn't distroy it,they salvaged it and stored it in a warehouse on the state fair grounds, they where going to fix it up and display it at the fair but decided not to and scraped it!!!!

Now if you want the rest of the Story, Northwestern National Bank acquired a struggling Wells Fargo. The media types advised those at Northwestern that for business purposes Wells Fargo was a brand, they should adopt. Northwestern National Bank having acquired Wells Fargo, became Well Fargo, and moved the Headquarters from Minneapolis to San Francisco.

I don't know if it was part of this particular NWNB commercial or not, but I thought this song ended with....
    "Northwestern National Bank
    May we help you today?"

It's from a separate radio commercial from the early 1960s.

Yes, Wanda---you're right. There have been several versions of the jingle, all worded slightly differently. The version we heard most often ended just as you said.
