হিন্দুধর্মকে বলা হয় পৃথিবীর প্রাচীনতম ধর্ম। কারণ এটি প্রাচীনযুগে আর্বিভূত হয়েছে। অনাদি কাল থেকে এই পরম্পরা চলে আসছে। লৌহযুগীয় ভারতের ঐতিহাসিক বৈদিক ধর্মের মধ্যে এই ধর্মের শিকড় নিবদ্ধ। তাই হিন্দুধর্মকে বিশ্বের "প্রাচীনতম জীবিত ধর্মবিশ্বাস" বা "প্রাচীনতম জীবিত প্রধান ধর্মীয় মতবাদ" আখ্যা দেওয়া হয়। হিন্দুধর্ম বিভিন্ন ভারতীয় সংস্কৃতি এবং ঐতিহ্যের সংমিশ্রণ হিসেবে গন্য করা যায়। যার মূলে একক কোন ব্যক্তির অবদান নেই। এটি সনাতনি বা চিরন্তন কর্তব্যের কথা বলে, যেমন সততা, অহিংসা, ধৈর্যশীলতা, সমবেদনা ও আত্মনিয়ন্ত্রণের পাশাপাশি আরো অনেক মানবিক উৎকর্ষ জনক উপায়ের কথা বলে। এবং বাহ্যিক আচার বিচারের থেকে পরম সত্যের জ্ঞানকে সর্বদাই মুখ্য স্থান দেয়। তাই এর প্রাচীন নাম হল সনাতন ধর্ম। আবার যেহেতু এই ধর্ম বেদ এর উপর ভিত্তি করে গড়ে উঠেছিল তাই এই ধর্ম কে বৈদিক ধর্ম নামেও পরিচিত।
Hinduism is said to be the oldest religion in the world. Because it originated in ancient times. This tradition has been going on since time immemorial. This religion is rooted in the historical Vedic religion of Iron Age India. That is why Hinduism is called the "oldest living religion" in the world. Hinduism can be considered as a combination of different Indian cultures and traditions. At the root of which there is no single individual contribution. It speaks of traditional or eternal duty, such as honesty, non-violence, patience, compassion, and self-control, as well as many other human excellence. And the knowledge of the absolute truth always takes precedence over the judgment of external conduct. So its ancient name is Sanatan Dharma. Again, since this religion was based on the Vedas, this religion is also known as the Vedic religion.
