Removing The Old Washer & Dryer

- Video covers how to remove the hoses, cords, and vent pipe from the old washer and dryer. Many delivery companies require this preparation prior to appliance pickup. Also a short review of our old Kenmore washer and dryer is included in the video.

From my own experience, the smell from the washer is caused by delivery people shoving the excess drain hose all the way down into the standpipe (drainpipe). That gives access to smelly sewer bacteria to get into your washer via the drain line. The drain hose head should attach to the U plastic shape and can not be more than 7" down the drain. This gives space for air to drain properly and prevent water flooding back into the hose. From the look of this video, the head of your drain hose is covered with slimmy bacteria, mold and your standpipe is blocked to the top, the water is backing up during draining cycle ( water comes out more than it can drain)and carrying bacteria back into the washer. That's the smell.
Good observation. Something to watch for on my new washer.
Thanks! I’ve had some big hassles lately and this was good clear info that helped me out.
Thanks for posting. I only have one valve for hot/cold i think. I was worried about water leaking out after i disconnect but now I'm not. I'll perhaps put a bucket underneath when i disconnect.
Thank you! We were able to take out our washer and dryer and sold it to a nice couple.
Thank you for this video it helped me remove our washer for the incoming new one.
Glad it helped!
so fking useful, i got a pair of horrible kenmores too. Thank you so much!!
Wow so weird seeing a disconnection in the us I am from the uk 🇬🇧 and over here we never have to unwire the old tumble dryer from inside the back of it… comes with a cord and plug we only wire electric cookers like that… plus hardly anyone uses and elbow on the back of the dryer pipe they just shove it in and replace them over time plus they are plastic pipes that damage easy then you get moisture and lint everywhere 🤦🏻♂️😤 I prefer the way you have your dryer vents much better lol. Most people over here use a condenser dryer so no need for a vent but they do take ages…. I gone back to vented as my condenser dryer broke after ten years vented is so much better I think after having both! and the washing machine
wait, do those knobs turn left or close?
Ok cool got it thank you
1:34 Counterclockwise turns off a water supply valve?
On this application yes. Normally it's clockwise to shut off a ball valve.
Was that an electric dryer? Didn't see the part where you disconnect the gas 🥲
Yes, dryer was electric.
It's amazing how the machines have electronic controls and lasted 10 years I fought that those new ones will last over 5 years
Tiny budgie r
Do you need to shut off the gas remove the dryer??
This was an electric dryer so there is no gas to shut off.
thanks man
Why did you remove the power cord from the dryer? (I've never heard of having to do that before...) Also: you forgot a VERY important step -- removing the sponge and pillow before pulling out the dryer! (hahahahahahaha...)

Hi Donna. The salesperson was the one who told us to remove the cords and hoses prior to pickup by the delivery people. Also, I did remove out the pillow and sponge before pulling out the washer and dryer.
And the washing machine why do you keep the drain pipe lol ? Every washing machine no matter what the brand comes with a new drain hose with it!! And we only use cold water full of you chose a hotter wash 60 c or boil wash 95 c it has an element that heats it up. I like the box’s you have over there where you connect it all in one place it’s much better idea lol. Thanks for the strange experience haha.
Hi Colin. Thanks for the information. We lived in the UK for a year and we hated the all in one washer/dryer. We had to iron all the clothes because they always came out of the dryer cycle damp.
just to disconnect a washing machine this place called Toronto decorating charged us $850
Ouch 😟
that's not hows its done you come rip it out of the wall cause a gas leak get high then leave
The groove was foul because you always left the door closed when not in use (which would trap moisture).
No one should have to leave their washer door open when not in use lol...it's a design flaw
Adam I mean it’s only been an issue since the invention of liquid detergents which are filled with animal byproducts and oils which build up making the perfect environment for mould and bacteria.
Why the fuck don't the guys bringing the new washing machine do this?!!?
You skipped the one step I was looking for. FML
What's FML?
i have a gas dryer useless video for millions of people with gas dryers
we don't have gas dryers in the UK only electric ones
Get to the damn point tbh
