      @Sunny636 A hole saw for round hole. A jigsaw for the rectangular hole.

      Thats a good idea. I was going to do that with mine as it makes it really portable ad lightweight. I didnt like how small the ipad was though so wound up using a 22" touch screen.

    This looks great but I would get rid of the bottom cabinet and get a speaker tri-pod to hold it up. Also put the printer in the same cabinet making it super lightweight and compact. Otherwise this setup isn’t bad at all. It all comes down to personal preference. Good work.

      @ChrischoBoardgaming Před 5 lety +2

      People tend to trip over tripod legs, which aren't very stylish, either. You'd have to cover them up with custom-made cloth or something.
      Then, there is statics to consider -- something heavy up high on something light might lead to people running into the setup and toppling it. With all the expensive tech inside that's probably a scenario we want to avoid. I've seen setups using tripods and I wasn't amazed; very wobbly.

    5 years late on this and IKEA increased these cabinets a lot in price. However this is handsdown the most genius hack for a shell! What were the finishing touches around the camera hole? It looks like a piece of plastic that covers up the exposed cut wood.

    Great Set up! i was wondering if you could show more of how you mounted the monitor to the cabinet. I am just trying to visualized what you put in the description about the c-angle and set screw through the shelf behind it that keeps the monitor in place. Thanks! Good work :)

      I'm not able to show anything further any time soon. The aluminum c-angle is like in the following link. It's cut to the width of the tablet and the tablet just sits in the channel. In the video at the 1:04 time marker, you see that the shelf holding the camera sits around the top of the tablet. On the front edge of the shelf I drilled a hole that a screw threads through (in the video the camera mount blocks the view of the screw). That screw is tightened just enough for it to touch the back of the tablet and securely hold the tablet in place. Hope this helps.

    • @elymiranda6944
      @elymiranda6944  Před 3 lety

      Drilled a hole through the shelf and used a bolt that fit the threaded hole of the mount. The mount fits a standard tripod. So it has a standard tripod mount threaded hole.

      I found these IKEA Hallan cabinets which are comparable, and I'm planning to do my own version of this DIY using these ones. www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89249403/ There are a few different sizes and configurations available for the Hallan cabinets so you can check out those different sizes and see what works best for you. I opted for the two longer ones that will be stacked like shown in the link.

    • @elymiranda6944
      @elymiranda6944  Před 6 lety

      Myself. It was probably the most nerve racking part of the whole build. But there is trim around both openings to hide most of the imperfection.

    • @michaelmannucci8949
      @michaelmannucci8949 Před 6 lety

      How did you do the trim? Thinking of doing this project myself. Any tips?

    • @elymiranda6944
      @elymiranda6944  Před 6 lety +1

      Nothing compicated. The trim around the tablet opening is automotive door trim (a.co/5vbWbTS ). The Trim around the camera lens opening is just a plastic grommet that's normally used on a desk to pass cables through (a.co/etnHvhc ).
      The only tip, as it might not be easily apparent in the video.... turn the bottom unit (the base) upside down. That way there is a natural opening between the cabinets to pass cables.

      Search for aluminum C-channel at your big box home store of choice ( www.homedepot.com/s/aluminum%2520c-channel?NCNI-5 ) . I think I used 1/2". I just cut it to the width of the tablet and epoxied it to the inside of the cabinet. The tablet sits in this channel. Then on the shelf behind it, I drilled a hole and inserted a set screw. This screw is tightened until it touches the back of the tablet with enough pressure to keep it in place.
