For those of you who may not be aware of the update....
As of now, we know that the testing for the Focus Edition will begin on Nov 7, 2023.
There will be a window of almost 3-4 months during which both Focus Edition and Classic Edition tests will be available for testing. Although we do not have clarity on when Classic GMAT will see its sunset, we know that testing dates are available in India till February so we are hoping it lasts till then. Personally, I would not risk it and would try to take the test by January if I am very particular about classic GMAT.
After classic GMAT stops being offered, GMAT Focus Edition will become the only GMAT available for testing.

Will the two versions co-exist q3 onwards or would the first one be replaced?
The two versions will initially co-exist for a few months (we will know how long once registration opens on August 29) but the existing GMAT edition will no longer be offered after Q1 of 2024 and only the Focus edition will be offered afterwards. Schools will continue accepting both scores as long as the score is still within the 5-year validity period.

Yes, that is correct, the GMAT Focus will not have the AWA section.

You are not under any time pressure and do not have to write the current edition. That means that you can check out the test content and then decide which edition is better for you. Do you not want to prepare for Sentence Correction and Geometry? Write the Focus Edition. Do you not want data insights to have a say in your 800 score? Write the classic edition.

Either version is fine, as long as you are able to catch school deadlines. If you are writing after Nov 7, decide based on what plays to your strengths, in terms of your ability to score well.

If someone is bad at maths, should they give focus or current edition?
The Classic edition tests Arithmetic, Algebra, and Geometry skills. However, there is no Geometry in Focus Edition. For a lot of people who fear the math section, the focus edition can seem more test-taker friendly - with a shorter quant section that tests fewer topics.

I am planning for EEO for intake 2026 and abt to start gmat shall i go with old or focus edition wht shld ISB consider ?
If you are applying to catch the EEO by the deadline announced for this year (which is round 1 - September 10th), then you will not be able to write the focus edition. Only the classic edition will be offered before September deadline. If you are applying later, say in 2024, Focus edition will be the one to go for.

Is geometry really removed from focus edition ???
Yes it is. Geometry and Solid Geometry have been removed. Coordinate Geometry is still there in GMAT Focus.
Hi I'm from Commerce background and my English and maths is not excellent so what should I do can you help me to decide
I want to preface by saying that GMAT does not test higher order mathematics. So being from a commerce background will not hamper your preparation - concepts tested are equivalent of 9th and 19th grade CBSE syllabus (just to frame the syllabus in a context Indians can relate to)
If you are not applying for an MBA program starting in 2023, you can wait for the Focus Edition. Two reasons: One, the syllabus for Math and English is narrower, making it easier for you to prepare when you are not feeling confident in either. Two, you have more time on hand and can work on strengthening your basics and do not have to rush in your preparation.

We do not know for sure whether the test will be available in October 2023. However, there is a high probability that you may have to write the classic GMAT because it may be November or December before the Focus Edition is available. If you are very particular about catching deadlines in this calendar year, we strongly recommend writing the classic GMAT.
Do not take risk. Take the current exam asap
There is no "risk" here. Simply prepare for the classic edition of the GMAT, focusing less initially on the topics getting removed - SC, geometry, and AWA. In 20 days from this comment, you will know when GMAT Focus is going to be available because registrations are opening on August 29. Simply adapt your preparation to classic or Focus accordingly to ensure you catch ISB or other deadlines. Good lulck!
