- Kathy Stice was stuck. Literally stuck. The narrow galley kitchen inside her Seattle home didn’t give Stice, who has used a wheelchair for more than 50 years, enough room to turn around comfortably, and the wheels often got wedged between the refrigerator and the dishwasher. Stice and her husband, Dan Rawsthorne, decided that it was time for a change. This was a very helpful video getting ready to redo our kitchen I have MS and also use a wheelchair and was so glad to see that the idea of drawers and door microwave dishwasher work for you because this is what I was hoping for and I'm also doing all drawers and no upper cabinets thank you so much for confirming what I was hoping would be helpful is the right thing to do

Great job!! Great insight!!! As an architect, we are legally bound to follow accessibility standards on a commercial level. Very few residences are designed for accessibility since it’s not the law. So as an architect we are bound to abide by code restrictions and the client’s needs. Great to see how this couple worked to tailor their kitchen to their needs. So great to see an outcome that meets the needs of those who use the space!!
Love their teamwork and her attitude! I would be so tempted to say these things are too hard and give up if I had the same challenges she has. This has been inspiring.

Thank you for posting this video. I have been disabled my entire life and currently still live with my parents in their inaccessible home. I am excited for the day I can move out and love the inspiration from this video!! I have seen the microwave drawer before but your oven is the coolest thing I have ever seen in a kitchen!! Would love to see you do a video on an accessible master bath!!
I broke 5 bones in my foot and ankle Labor Day 2017. I have come to appreciate the problems faced by being in a wheelchair, then a walker, now a cane. Good job Hozz.

I really appreciated this video even though I'm not in a wheelchair. I do have severe osteoarthritis and have already had three joint replacements and need more. I can't always stand to do prep and cooking, so I pull up a barstool which still isn't high enough to not make my shoulders hurt. I think for people with disabilities you have to remodel your existing home or custom build to make the space functional.

I'm disabled and also have health problems and I just can't even... this is so amazing. It's so hard when you have to bend over backwards to accommodate the way the majority of the world does things; I just love that they were able to redesign the kitchen so that it accommodated her instead of her accommodating it. And her husband's attitude is exactly what it should be. Awesomeness all round!

I absolutely love it. But maybe a seat on a track in the ceiling that goes up and down as well as along the kitchen would have been an idea. The draws are definitely a huge improvement.
