There will never ever be a front court like Bird, the Chief and McHale. All 3 so very different yet their enormous talent blended together so well. They exemplified what team basketball was all about.
Actually, there were a few big 3 players after them. You had Kareem/Magic/Worthy, & Jordan/Pippen/Rodman & Curry/Klay/Green. Those big 3, as with Boston's big 3, won 3 titles together.
I just hate those Big Three to be mentioned without the name Denis Johnson! How did he even feel, being left out of that appellation? It seems almost a crime - who said there were only three?
@@Jondsmusic You bet, Danny! But this was a _Team_ with a capital T, you could go down the line with über-strong supporting players including Bill Walton etc, etc.

@5:48 mark is the player that was always the nicest to me when I was in and around the team (practices, games). Always talkative. Always had a big smile for everyone! M.L. Carr I used to be around the team 1980-1982. 20+ years later while I was waiting for my friend just outside a Harris Teeter grocery store down here just north of Charlotte, NC, who do I see come out of the store while I was making a call, but a clean head shaven Robert. I recognized him immediately and just took a second from my phone call, yelled and waved; "Hey Robert." and he waved back and I went back to my call. I am sure he did not remember it was the 17 year old from the early 1980's that used to talk with him and his teammates.
Chess I loved the Celtics and the Lakers equally, but when they played each other, I was for the Lakers! In most part, because of Magic Johnson, his flare and flashing smile drew me in!
As a Boston resident at that time, we all knew that when the Celtics and Lakers had a game together, we were going to see one hell of a battle and some of the best entertainment ever.
Years ago when I was a young man I had a court side seat at a Warriors game..I don't know why I remember this but the guy behind me yelled "Hey Attles, your center's asleep out there" Al then called time out..That center was Robert Parrish..Anyway he woke up and had a GREAT career
As a Laker fan living in so cal all those years I very much respected the Celtics and the big 3. I look back at it some 30 yrs later and while I was bummed out the Celtics won in 84 it's probably better in the history books that they played 3 times in the finals and each team won the Lakers twice and Celtics once. On those Celtics teams I really like the chief and bird. I couldn't stand McHale cause of that bush league play he did to Kurt Rambis. I also liked and respect DJ and I loved M. L. Care waving the towel. Those were great team's both of them and it was great rivalry. Il forever respect those Celtics teams and know they were special
McHale got all ball on that. Rambis was just acting like a spoilt dang brat is what is was. Practically all ball. Even Worthy knew Rambis was being a drama queen so Worthy shoved to Rambis. His own teammate knowd it jerk.
I've been wanting to see footage from this game for a long time. Rick Pitino looks pissed that everyone is more excited to see Robert Kevin and Larry than the current Celtics haha
IMO, they had the best front court in Basketball and I will also say having Cedric Maxwell, who was initially a starter and later a bench player and then Bill Walton coming off the bench gave them quite a foursome.
I was there.... the Fleet was so loud... you could not hear Tommy speaking.... it was incredible and the LOUDEST i have ever heard in that building... and I was at many concerts, and other events including when Stone Cold won Mania 14.. and that doesn't compare to this. There will never ever be a front court like Bird, the Chief and McHale. All 3 so very different yet their enormous talent blended together so well. They exemplified what team basketball was all about.

I have been looking for the Chief's retirement ceremony for years. I am so happy to finally see Robert Parish's number raised to the rafters.
me 2
Exactly
My favorite “Quiet Player” along with Tim Duncan
It took this long because he didn’t retire till the season before
Because of Robert Parrish, I always pay close attention to those who speak less often, yet, speak loudly with their actions.
Parish
"I was mad; I was mad that guy got up!" Red, you were not the only one who wished so.
The best three of all time. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Chief was always a class act!
Bird, McHale, Parrish. Best trio! 👍👍👍👍
Parish. His name is in the title and you still got it wrong. Doesn’t get any dumber than you
Robert Parish was a great center. He would be the best in the game today in 2021.
Not even close😂
The chief, one of my NBA heroes when I was young.
Robert Parish Kevin McHale Larry Bird Dennis Johnson Danny Ainge oh yeah
Even if he wasn't around long, don't forget Bill Walton... Best team ever the 1986 Finals. Sweet sixteen
Great lineup,except Danny,wasoverrated!
Best of all time
DJ is criminally underrated
Laimbeer got a taste of the Chief's karate
That was awesome! The Chief was amazing! I was so glad he decked Lambrain! He deserved it!
Decked who?
Few people remember that The Chief would go on to play 22 more years in the NBA after this. Talk about longevity.
What the hell are you talking about
And now, sadly Tommy is gone. He will be missed. RIP
NO! Who's Tommy anyway?
instaBlaster.
It was indeed nice to see Robert smile. What a steadfast asset to our team. Thank you Robert.
I always glad when Mom & Dad are there to see their son or daughter succeed.
This was also birds first game in boston as pacers coach.
I miss Red. The best executive of all time.
Tough to see Larry walking in pain but grateful tovsee the big 3 (big 4 actually with Cornbread) in their prime

In my opinion, the NBA of today won't survive in the 8O's 90's era. Today players are bunches of cry babies and softy.
True but the players today are more talented. They get more talented from generation to generation if you remove the nostalgic rejection.
