How to Change Lanes While Driving and Move Over to Pass a Car or Fixed Object | Pass Road Test Smart :: • How to Change Lanes & ...
If you are taking your road test or driving in a rural community, there is a good chance that you will encounter slow-moving vehicles. When travelling along highways and roadway, these vehicles my travel on the roadway, partway on the road, or completely on the shoulder.
If these vehicles are on any part of the roadway, you will have to pass. Passing is a required skill for a road test. And it is imperative that you pass safely to ensure both your safety and that of other road users.
Passing is one of the highest risk manoeuvres executed in a vehicle. If a crash results from an error in passing, often these crashes result in fatalities. Be cautions when passing, and practice with a veteran driver if you're the least bit unsure about the manoeuvre.
Good luck on your road test.

Hello Mr Rick, no I took my road test in a city like area where there are moderate amount of modern traffics. No slow moving vehicles.
Hi Umar Ali - apologies for the late response. Yes, more than 70% of people now live in cities, which makes this a redundant video for most. Still, if you ever take a drive out to the country, you'll know how to deal with these vehicles. All the best, Cheers Rick
Yes sir, this is a great video even if I can't experience it now. Maybe one day I will go out to travel through a country area as I love the landscape and peaceful nature of the environment (usually). I appreciated the response; you are awesome!

I use one on my garden tractor as well as a bicycle because it doesn't matter what it's on unless it doesn't go over 25mph and bicycles also have the right of way anyway however I also use it because I tell everyone that you have to know what it means to pass your driver's test
I really do appreciate ALL of your videos and the time and effort you put into recording, explaining/teaching and editing. The editing is very helpful. Hey Rick! Good to know you are in Ontario again to visit your mom! Yeah, I remember reading in the Ontario Driver's Handbook somewhere when I was studying for my G1 that they said there is a lot of farm machinery and horse-drawn vehicles in southwestern Ontario, which is where I believe you are right now? I haven't really experience too many of those here in Toronto of course, I would like to though, to see how it is. Anyway, great video and enjoy your stay with your mom!
Hi Kyle - thanks for your comment. Yes, more than 70% of people in the world now live in cities, which makes this a redundant video for most. Still, if you ever take a drive out to the country in SW Ontario, you'll know how to deal with these vehicles. Yes, I'm here in SW Ontario, north-northwest of Toronto. All the best, Cheers Rick

we don't have these slow moving vehicles but we certainly have similar vehicles which don't have these special signs. sometimes it's very difficult to deal with them.
Hi Wtjdg Wtjdg - thank you for your comment. Where are you in the world that you have a lot of slow-moving vehicles? I should have made this video more international - I believe the jet lag here messed with my thinking a little bit!! 80) If there's anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi Mr.Rick, can you do a simple video about how to drive an automantic car in t-junction?
Hi Velvet Rose - thank you for your comment and query. Can you send me the address of the intersection for which you're thinking. I can give you more precise information if I can look it up on Google. All the best, Cheers Rick

Hello again Rick Just a quick question, does Sam give highway lessons? If so I'd be interested in taking some. Thank you
Hi Rupert - thanks for your questions and query. I'm certain that Sam would do highway lessons with you. I'm sure it's a quick trip out onto the BQE to do some highway driving lessons. Do you still have his contact information? All the best, Cheers Rick
Rick, just a question about highways. In one of your videos, you mentioned that the numbered highways in the USA are systematic(even- east west, and odd-north south). Does this apply to Canada, specifically Southern Ontario?
Hi Andrew - thanks for your comment query. Unfortunately, in Canada there isn't a system to our national highway system as there is in the United States. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Thank you, Rick, how is your trip? Also, did you get my email about road rage?
Hi Big$MoneyBoss - thanks for your comment. The trip is good, but I believe I'm going through a little bit of "no internet" withdrawal. It's always good spending some time with my Mom & Dad here in the place I grew up. I did get your email and wrote you a response. It happens to the best of us, no matter how placid our personality. All the best, Cheers Rick
Ok, thank you have fun! Hope to see a video about your trip when you get back
Hi Rick .I watched both videos you were recommended. I didn't find the answers yet.
I came from Hungary We can pass bicycle in the same lane and we have to do that as there are lots of bicycles everywhere . Now I live in NC USA and I am confused in lots of rules here .When and how can I pass bicycle or slow scooters or people whom walking ON the road ? Can I pass the yellow line or can I pass them on the same lane?
Thank you
Hi Edina - thank you for your clarification. When passing bicycles you need to move over; you can't squeeze past them. Have a look at this playlist for the proper procedure: czcams.com/play/PL0x-bChcUvwH3H8P-p2oneBQ6l7ZSQ1es.html Yes, in North America you can't pass a bicycle in the same lane, except if there is a bicycle lane, and then you don't have to move over. That is a great question. I didn't know that about Hungary - thank you. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
will they let me use my 03 ram 1500 to do my g2 test? ive only ever drove big trucks an on my test i used an suv an failed cause i was taking corner to shap cause im use to driving big long trucks.
Hi Brent - apologies for the late response. Thank you for your comment and query. Yes, you can take your road test is a large pickup truck. I will caution you however. Most road tests are done in a mid-size sedan, therefore, the road test is set up that size of vehicle. Still, if you can parallel park, 3-point turn, and reverse stall park, you should be golden. Have a look at this playlist: czcams.com/play/PL0x-bChcUvwFy0JlpppIZ7Un8S1lv3oWq.html If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
can i use a dodge ram 2 do a g2 road test
Hey rick I have a question . What are the rules for a 2 way stop sign junction ?
Hi Nargis Chogle - thank you for your comment and query. Can you send me an address of an intersection of which you're thinking? That way I can look it up on Google and give you precise information. All the best, Cheers Rick
I'm working towards my learning license
Hi Chris Hall - that is great my friend. If there is anything we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
A lawn mower or lawn tractor is a slow moving vehicle because a tractor is a tractor no matter how big it is and that's fact's
Someone told you otherwise? Cheers Rick
@@smartdrivetest what you mean someone told me otherwise
You might even see them on bicycles and bicycle trailers
I'm driving at post speed limit people still overtake me
Hi Hùng Kiệt - Apologies for the late response. Thank you for your comment. Yes, when working toward your driver's license test you have to obey the speed limit and other traffic is going to overtake you because the flow of traffic speed is higher than the posted speed limit. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
