Phil Manzanera Guitar Brian Turrington Bass Freddie Smith Drums Robert Wyatt Percussion Footage from - Roxy Music (Promo/Live Videos) 1972-1974 Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)
Brian Turrington (bass and co-writer) recently passed away. He was my friend, we wrote and played together back in the day. He was a unique musician. and just about the nicest man you could hope to meet.
So sorry for the loss. This has always been one of my favorite Eno concatenations, with the bass being the one part my brain fixates on without fail. Thanks for reminding us of someone who qualifiably made this song what it is - always captivating, driving, aggressive and fresh. RIP.
Of Eno's first four solo LPs, three are total masterpieces and one, 'Taking Tiger Mountain...', is merely brilliant....'Another Green World' is a strong contender for my favourite album of all time..
There are tins, There was pork, There are legs, There are sharks, There was john, There are cliffs, There was mother, There's a poker, There was you, Then there was you, There are scenes, There are blues, There are boots, There are shoes, There are Turks, There are fools, They're in lockers, They're in schools, They're in you, Then there was you, Burn my fingers, Burn my toes, Burn my uncle, Burn his books, Burn his shoes, Cook the leather, Put it on me, Does it fit me, Or you, It looks tight on you,
He almost always played as a part of other peoples' concepts - most notably in Roxy. When you think of Roxy Music, you think of Bryan, of Eno, and maybe of Andy. You don't think so much of Phil.
For a few years I did too. And in all honesty, I heard their ZIggy Stardust before I heard Bowie's. But in a completely embarrassing turn of events, I loved Weird Al's Yoda long before I knew the Kink's Lola. True stories, all.
@@michaelwendt3714 Having been well-soaked in the old Eno albums before I heard the Bauhaus version, yeah. Cool that they covered it, but it underwhelms by comparison.
Remains my favourite vocalised Eno track after I think 48, maybe 49 years of first hearing it. This is fitting video footage to go with it. Very well done and THANKS🧙♂
Wow - I did not know that - pretty Cool - yeah that period of Prog to New Wave in the early to mid 70's is becoming more interesting to me - I was more Punk and New Wave - my older brother has tons or Rare Prog Rock stuff that some of which - like this song - are pretty Proto Punk / New Wave
@@gannondresser1857 I see your sarcasm. You can't hear the similarities? Must not have a fine tuned ear. Have you heard of Syd Barrett? It's an observation on their vocal ranges, tonality, and enunciation. By the way, it's Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy, not 'Talking Tiger Mountain'. I'm surprised for all your listening to this record that you would get it wrong.
Great song. Phil Collins on Drums. Punk before Punk. Love this record. Taking Tiger Mountain. Third Uncle is also done LIVE with 801 Live. Brian Eno early solo work was great. Those first four vocal records are Fire.
Freddie Smith or Phil Collins - I'm sure they were all hanging out in Mass getting stoned and jamming away - all that creative intensity and that time of 1974 and 1975 - sort of 'inbetween' eras - Prog phasing into New Wave and Punk scraping out the delusions of Hippy Rock
@@cynthiaslusher5212 El comentario que hice al tema de Brian Eno, para nada pretendía ser peyorativo o desacreditar a nadie, ni personal, ni musicalmente .
third uncle cover from bauhaus was the first version of this track wich one i heard. and this version was a great cover but the original version is much better. my pearents were big roxy fans when the band was new, i heard it all the time when i was a small boy, together with bowie and t rex
If this is on Warm Jets ....did I just somehow kind of overlook it because it's in the middle of a bunch of other great stuff? Cuz this is amazing!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Feels like you're doing a thousand miles an hour. It's like a lion. I hear the sirens In the crowd like a roar. I see the lightning on the horizon making the sound of a war. And then there is you.
Can't find any reference to Phil Collins playing drums on Third Uncle...Freddie Smith was the drummer and Phil Collins played some percussion on Mother Whale Eyeless....do you have some inside knowledge perhaps?
Yes, that's kind of typical of Eno - jump ahead several years and develop post-punk while punk itself is barely yet a concept, let alone a genre. I sometimes wonder if he owned a Tardis.
Always thought this was originally from BAUHAUS .... Whatever, the original is better than the cover, what a bunch of fantastic musicians ... Bass, guitar, drums, ...

He made some great contributions to one of my favorite albums. My condolences it's so hard to lose a friend.
Didn't know Robert Wyatt played on this song. Fucking love him.
Phil Manzanera is such an awesome guitarist, especially on the Les Paul!

Sounds like Wire
Manzanera is seriously under rated. One of the greats. Wilder then anyone really.

Yawn...
@@Baribrotzerhe also plays on John Cale's Gun from his 1974 album Fear
If y'all like Eno/Manzanera and you don't know the 801 Live album, take a listen. It's brilliant!
I ran a marathon in under an hour listening to this
You ran a marathon in 4mins 56 seconds?!
I cannot understand how this song has evaded me all my life.I always thought it was an original Bauhaus original song.
May be the Bauhaus were inspired by for their title "hair of the dog".
After reading your comment that's what I think.

I heard this lp in 74, but this song never took my attention. Now, as a postpunk fan it does😂
I've loved this song for 50 years now. It just never gets old for me.

on repeat

Taking Tiger 🐅 Mountain ⛰️ by strategy. Love that album
Prophetic track portent the forthcoming post-punk era.
Dark and neurotic.

I love Phil Collins’ amazing drumming on this track…

I thought the same. The drummer plays like Jaki Liebezeit.

Eno's vocals remind me of Syd Barrett sometimes.
Both Eno and David Bowie were influenced by him. Bowie did a cover of See Emily Play on Pinups.
righttt! i always think this listening to the talking tiger mountain record
