Amberjack are blueish-grey on top and silvery below the lateral line, and there is often a distinct amber stripe along the flanks, hence 'amberjack'. Almaco jack usually have a brown-olive tinge to the whole body and a dark bar that runs from the eyes back to the start of the dorsal fin.
I think this one is an amberjack judging by the dorsil fin. Really hard to tell with color on this one. May just be the lighting but I would say amber if I had to guess.

It was a juvenile amberjack. The best way to tell is Amber Jennifer's have a more streamlined body shape while Alma coat jacks have higher shoulders and a much taller dorsal. The third Jack you caught was the almaco.

I ran the Panama City Spearfishing Tournament one year and, I like you, like triggerfish fillets. One of the shooters brought in a 9# trigger and gave it to me after weigh-in. It hit the grill and was delicious. The big ones are all over the artificial reefs.

First two jacks were AJs, third one was an Almaco. Dorsal and anal fins on Almaco are more pointed and longer and the body is usually broader top to bottom with a darker color.
Brad if you’re trying to catch Goliath grouper you might try collaborating with Joey antonelli. He has a fishing CZcams channel he runs out of around the Melbourne/ Indialantic FL area and he and his friends have done Goliath grouper catch and release videos in the past! His friend had a permit from fwc to catch Goliath grouper in order to collect samples and measurements for population studies.

First three look like baby AJ's. Almacos have taller body profiles... the one that came up on the double was an Almaco. Cool vid, tight lines!

Are there any short nose spearfish in the gulf or Atlantic. I don’t know how to post a picture of them but they are prevalent in Hawaii . Usually catch them trolling along with dolphin wahoo Marlin and yellow fin tuna.
