    in one version of the tale it said, Eurydice was following Orpheus close behind on their way back out of the Underworld, but Orpheus stopped hearing Eurydice's footsteps behind him. Thinking she was lost behind or Orpheus was tricked, he turned around to check to see if Eurydice was still there & He made eye contact with her as she was still there following him the whole time.

      @moonchild4648 Před rokem +14

      I remember that in the Odyssey, Circe tells Odysseus that he must travel to an entrance to the underworld in order to commune with the dead, so to answer your question, there were phisical entrances to the underworld, but I'm guessing their location was not known by most people, otherwise people would have visited more often.

    • @ErickMagana89
      @ErickMagana89 Před rokem +4

      I’m gonna say greeks were were very fond of mystic rituals and Hades was very associated with caves, so 1+1=2 and there should be sacred caves considered entrances to the Hades in ancient Greece, but I’m pretty much guessing.

    It is also said by many (including the other deities) that it was Hades most unfair deception. In the version of the story I've heard had the lovers only walked another 30 feet to be fully out and away from the shadow of the cave Eurydice and Orpheus would have been reunited.

    • @thehellenicneopagan
      @thehellenicneopagan Před rokem +3

      Struggling to see the so called "deception"... Hades gave a clear cut instruction; "Don't look book until you reach the exit!" Seems straight forward to me, NOT at all a deception. 🤦🏻‍♀️

      @TheGrumpyMinstrel Před rokem

      @@thehellenicneopagan Yeah, mythologically speaking, hades generally seems to be depicted as a fairer god than the other Olympians (like when he let Hercules take Cerberus back for his labour, if he could wrestle the dog into submission) which to be fair doesn't say much given his pantheons track record XD

    • @bbbeto02
      @bbbeto02 Před rokem

      Exactly. Orpheus knew that if Hades was true or not, he (Orpheus) could not enter the Underworld a second time either way. So the "instruction" of Hades to not look back could've been just a way to get rid of him from his lands, so Orpheus had his reason to doubt.
