    If I have some left over paint, i mix some into 5-20 min mud and do what you did. I will do a room or two by marking holes with blue tape so I can quickly find them while the mud is active. Even if it is semi, and I have to, my touch up paint doesn't flash through flat. Fast and final is perfect for pin holes, love it.

    Hi, Guy. At about 5:00, you talk about Fast'n'Final, and how it's dry and fluffy. I've added a few drops of water to it, to make it more workable and 'sticky'. Any concern or comment about doing that with that product? Thanks for lots of good tips and ideas.

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 6 lety +6

      I’ve added water to it numerous times. Generally with drywall compound the more water you add, the more they shrink. Also more water can cause it to not adhere as well so just don’t overdo it and you should be fine. Thanks for the question and for being a Subscriber in our little community.

  • @foodtravelnaturehomeopathi4507

    it is a good video, I have a question, after filling and drying is there any way to match the color of filled holes with the color of the walls wall like I have light grey walls but after drying it'll look like white patches so please reply what are the possibilities?

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 4 lety +2

      I might, if your door is totally smooth in that area. But if it has that fake woodgrain, it might hide a little tiny spot of the grain, but it should work fine if it will stay in the hole. If not, you might need to try caulking in the same manner. It sticks a little better in thin panels.

  • @aprile8993

    The sponge method seemed to be the fastest and easiest without having to paint over the spots. Is there a particular sparkle to use for that? I’m moving pictures I hung and all holes are tiny, but I don’t have the matching paint for the wall to do touchups. Thanks!

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY

  • @R6andS4rider
    @R6andS4rider Před 2 lety

    I just had painters paint some rooms inside my house. They “fixed” some nail pops before they painted but I can see the spots where they mudded over the nail pops. It shows up like a smooth area just how you explain in this video.
    My walls aren’t textured besides the slight texture from the roller nap when the walls were originally painted.
    Any idea why the spots aren’t hidden after the final coat of paint?

  • @lazarusblackwell6988

    No need for harder materials

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 3 lety +2

      If it will stay filled up, it’s OK. But 99% of the time it will shrink back and the hole will reappear when it’s dry. I’ve painted hundreds of homes and have found this to be true.

    Quick question! I recently removed some wainscoting from a few walls in my house. They were attached with nails and glue directly to bare drywall, so when it came down it pretty much ruined the drywall. Also, there has been about half a dozen coats of paint on the wall that stops at the top of the wainscoting making a very pronounced ridge. I was told that's almost impossible to remove and not be noticeable...
    My question is have you ever dealt with this problem? I'm thinking my options are replacing the bottom part of the drywall or a skim coat over the whole thing. Please help!

      Hello Austin, and thanks for writing. Usually when anything glued on is removed like that, it will damage the face of the drywall and often pull off chunks of it, exposing the brown paper underneath. First thing is to fix those, and I show how to do it right at: czcams.com/video/J7zSqZhBHJo/video.html. If it's real bad you can replace it, but I can fix 99% off all these types of damaged walls. When you have a ridge like that, just scrape it off as much as you can, then coat over it like a bad joint, usually 12-20" wide. But in the case of a damaged lower wall, and that seam, I'd go ahead and skim coat the whole wall after you repair the seam and any other damage. Then it's like a new wall again. But fix everything, BEFORE you skim coat the whole wall. Hope that helps, and let me know how it goes, ok?

      If you’ve painted them, you’ll have to coat it with a slightly wider coat of mud and re-texture it

    I watched your video and another video about filling really deep holes from those screws and bolts. Another gentleman recommended filling the hole in the stud with a wood filler and then wall putty. What do you think? I want to reinforce the stud as I have several deep holes in my laundry room from a cabinet we took down. Also I CANNOT find your video you mentioned about making paint blend after fixing those holes. Could you direct me to that video? Thanks, you do a great job!

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Maria. I honestly wouldn't worry about a hole left in a stud unless it's bigger than 3/4" in diameter and penetrates more than 1 1/2". One stud with a hole like that will still be plenty strong. I would just fix the hole in the sheetrock like normal.
      As for blending paint, I still haven't gotten around to that video, so here's what you do. Prime the spot repaired with 1-2 coats of primer, letting it dry the recommended amount of time each time. Then spot paint the repair. Now if it's flat you can spot paint once more extending slightly. If it's not flat it may show if you do that as glossier paints don't blend that way. So the absolute best way is to do the 2nd coat by repainting all the way to the next paint break such as an inside corner, outside corner, trim piece, etc.
      Let me know if that helps. Guy

    At 3:36 you completed a nail hole repair without using paint, just by washing a sanded area over the spackled hole. Is that correct? Seems like magic. I'm moving out of a rented house and was hoping to repair nail holes without matching about 5 different paint colors. If this works, it would be truly amazing.

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 5 lety

      Yes, you can. Everyone thinks it takes a big glob of mud, but if you just fill the hole and wipe it all away, the hole stays filled and you can't see it, UNLESS possibly if the hole is bigger and/or the paint is darker. But try it, you may be greatly surprised.

      @@ThatKiltedGuyDIY how is that possible to just wipe it away with a wet sponge. Is it because the wet sponge picks up the paint from the wall and covers the spot? That really did seam like magic. I'm moving as well and need to fix a few little spots. Is there a specific type of spackle/puddy that works like that?

    • @carlihorne6762

      I rent also. Would love to try. I don't have access to the paint they used in my apartment (kind of a light yellow/beige color), so this sponge technique would be ideal.
      Quick question, would you recommend using the fast and final for this technique? Or some of those 20/45 set mud (never done anything like this - just saw in store).
