Overview: Today we find our self in a very old landscape of Stewart airport, these beautiful brick buildings were once a staple to his area, housing troops in their time of need. While learning and training at West Point, they could come here to live and also learn the ropes as well. Just down the road is an abandoned Cold War shelter, with 4 layer thick concrete walls!
It's an incredible site driving around here, almost feels fake or something out of a movie!
History: Developed in the 1930s as a military base to allow cadets at the nearby United States Military Academy at West Point to learn aviation, it has grown into a significant passenger airport for the mid-Hudson region and continues as a military airfield, housing the 105th Airlift Wing of the New York Air National Guard and Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 452 (VMGR-452) of the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
