This terrible Dell dimension 2400 has no AGP. So that makes it a worthless 5$ PC. Can we upgrade it with one of the coolest PCI video cards? The 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500?

The Voodoo 2 SLI was slower in 3dmark than the onboard one but in games I think it should still be faster.
3D mark is the wrong software to use with 3Dfx Voodoo cards it offers nothing the Voodoo's have for their own advantage like 3dfx Glide API based tests, I always saw 3D Mark as inaccurate garbage so use the 3dfx Glide games themself instead to get far more potential from your 3dfx cards, that is what we do at x-3dfx ;)

Did you try clearing cmos? When dealing with resource conflicts on these XP era computers it has helped me a lot, it seems to force it to at least try and figure out the resources.
Or BIOS update. Maybe some BIOS settings like disabling resources. Serial ports, parallel ports.

I used to have one of those Voodoo 5 5500 cards in my Amiga 1200 back in 2000 or so, along with a PowerPC card. It worked great, and was a significant upgrade over the Amiga's native AGA.

For that PC, try a GeForce 4 MX 440 or GeForce 2 MX; they are affordable and perform exceptionally well for those games. There's no need for Glide support in those games or many others. Personally, I only want or "need" Glide for NFS 2 SE, Descent, Tomb Raider, Screamer 2, and Screamer Rally. The rest work fine with OpenGL or Direct3D. Additionally, you can use a GeForce FX 5500 or GeForce 6200, or better, to utilize nGlide in Windows 98. For games up to 1997, consider using a Voodoo 2, while for games from 1998 onwards, I prefer using a GeForce, or at leats a TNT2 preferably a TNT 2 Ultra.
I have a IBM single cpu p4 server in its IBM tower case that has no agp slot. It might be fun to try a pci to pci e adapter in it. It was once used as a pabx
Just kept laughing to "the box" :D so stupid that it doesn't have AGP as it has solder points to the connector though.
Well, the lack of AGP is a wasted potential for the motherboard's part.
If you disable all the onboard stuff in the bios. Like onboard VGA, sound, network. That should free up some IRQ adresses?
I think that Dell box should be crushed by the Unimog. Just an idea for a video 🙂
I got over 5800 points in 3DMark99 with Voodoo 2 SLI on Coppermine Pentium III 1.0 GHz which gets much lower CPU score than your's Pentium 4, so this is pretty much close to maximum score you can expect from Voodoo 2 SLI.

But second attempt for recommending a fix, try the Voodoo 5000 with the onboard USB controller disabled and let me know if that works.
I did disable the USB. And thanks for the memory tip. I already removed the voodoo2 cards and throwded the system out of my studio 😄
Try to update the bios with the last version for this MB.
PCI FX5200 would be a good card to try in this box?
That was a very common choice back then for both diy and oem, still one of the worse cards of the decade.
@@MrKillswitch88 oh yeah it's terrible but compatibility is good and they are common as muck which means even in 2023 they're still cheap and avoid the retro tax.
@@aaldrich1982 This is why I am thankful to have collected what I could despite losing my first collection to an house fire (arson). A decade ago 3DFX cards were still pretty cheap with some exceptions as well other choice cards were very reasonable unlike how it is these days.
Disable the Onboard Graphics....Assign IRQ vor VGA = Yes .... or use PCI to PCIe Adapter with Low Profile PCIe Card and Windows XP. I use the Radeon R7 250 with 2 GB of Memory in a System that has 1 GB RAM 😂😂 The GPU has more Memory than the Pentium 4 PC from 2002 .... No Joke
You could try disabling some of the onboard devices, such as VGA, Floppy Controller, Serial and Parallel ports to see if that frees up any resources for Win98. I take it you're aiming for Win98, but I'm curious if the Voodoo5 would work with XP and the SFFT drivers.
A super cheap Geforce FX5200 would be a significant upgrade though. They're a dime a dozen.

3:36 not only can it play games, it can emulate them also! I'd guess PS1 wold be pushing it, but anything lower end, non 3d would run fine.
hi nice catch :D i have a pci voodoo 5 5500 :) but my card originaly voodoo mac 5500 have dvi + coonector in any diference have the normal pci and mac pci voodoo 5 5500 to get dvi coonector?
Would it work if you installed the Voodoo 5 first and then installed Windows? 🤔
Still a very cool video and I do agree it is a true piece of crap rofl, but hey ya got it for 5 bucks right, the only good purpose is that you can use the V2 SLI for 3dfx Glide games only and use the onboard for OpenGL & Direct3D instead so you do have a choice on what to use so for users with little to no money such a system can even give them fun.
The next in-person lan party you go to you should let people beat the crap out of it and film it. That would be amazing lol!
