Film is nice. I just can't understand why bellringing in Russia was forbidden and here in video was permitted to ring just in purpose of that film. Btw, how did survived all these these bells of Velikiy Rostov?

One comment will not fit)) (there may be small errors when translating, but this is a question for Google translator) )) First, about the ringing in the USSR. There was no official ban on the use of bells!!! There was no ringing in the Church only in the 1930s and 1940s, when hundreds of tons of bells were forced to fall victim to the industrial revolution. The second wave of the deliberate destruction of Russian bells as a phenomenon took place in 1960-1964. But let's talk about everything in order:

In 1930-1945, due to industrialization, there were not so many old bell sets left (there was practically nothing to play on). But I should note that " Narkompross "(the Department of the VKPB for the seizure of Church values) sent only" young", at that time, cast bells in 1800-1930. But the older bells (some of the 18th century) and older ones are carefully preserved in museums and theaters. Examples of this: a Set of 35 ancient bells of Moscow churches in the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Moscow (and other theaters). moreover, in theaters, the bells were accompanied by (and still are) a number of operas and works (more on this in the following. comments) The situation in museums was different: the ancient bells of the Trinity Lavra, Novodevichy monastery, St. Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod the Great (there are many such examples, and we are talking about heavy bells weighing up to 12 tons) were preserved as monuments of foundry art, but without ringing. Another reason why there were no bells during this period: the mood in the society of that time was different. At that time, the Church was forced out of the people's life, and operated almost underground. Therefore, the bells were not used as a signal instrument. But the Theaters were ringing. At the same time, the composer of bell music K. K. Saradzhev, planned to create his own "Russian" Carillon, but since he was engaged in the distribution of bells of the Danilovsky monastery in Harvard, and after the war began, he, unfortunately, did not have time to implement his idea.

After the Second World War, bells appeared and worked everywhere in active churches. And these were, for the most part, preserved small bells of the population. But there were also private castings (for example, in Siberia, the city of Omsk), in 1946, the bells were cast at 900kg each. And until 1960, the bells were played quietly in a few churches, the remaining bell musicians (after the war, there were also very few of them). Watch the 12th minute of the 1957 film Road to the Stars. This image shows the ringing of a bell in the provincial city of Kaluga, where there were 2 active churches (both sets of five bells). Russian Russian bells were destroyed as an original phenomenon of Russian musical culture in 1960-1964 under N. S. Khrushchev (an ardent supporter of Trotskyism). But ringing was still not forbidden, and was everywhere where there were bells. After Khrushchev (since 1964), everything became even better, and in 1975, the Museum of Small Karelians (Arkhangelsk) began regular concert "Northern" bells. Well and then everywhere became more and more)) I want to note that in some places the ringing did not stop at all, as in the cities of Pskov and Tallinn.

As for the Rostov bells, they have always been a phenomenon of Russian bell ringing. In the 1930s, Lunacharsky (people's Commissar of education) personally stood up for the preservation of the Rostov bells. In the 1960s, the all-Union recording Studio required audio of Russian bell tolls to accompany historical films (almost all Soviet historical and artistic films accompany Rostov tolls). Fortunately, the current cast of old zone performers (whom you saw in the movie) were still alive. The formal occasion for the audio recording and ringing was the 1100 year anniversary of the city of Rostov Veliky. In 1963, in the spring and summer, the old Rostov bells were produced (many takes were recorded). In 1968, an entire record was released with some of these sounds, with commentary (the cover was translated into several languages), and in 1985, the firm Melody released another record, widely distributed around the world. In 1963, this event was widely reported and documented. But these frames were shot in 1966 for the film "Seven notes in silence". And they were taken illegally. (the Director of the film referred to a certain "high patronage in Moscow", and the management of the Rostov Museum gave the opportunity to shoot. And another point: since the bells were a Museum value, the Museum managed them. Therefore, these bells were PROTECTED by the STATE! And now, alas, the Rostov bells are far from the same. There was a good attempt to hold a concert of old bells in 2018 (the video is on our channel), but it is unlikely that it will be possible to hold it again in the coming years.

And about the casting of bells in the USSR. There were private castings in 1945-1948, in Siberia, and since 1986 already everywhere. but this is for temples. And in 1946-1975, bells made of high-strength cast iron for the Ministry of Railways were produced EN masse. from 1975 to the state standard of the USSR, ship's bells were cast in bronze, brass and cast iron. Some of these bells in the 1990s moved to the bell towers, sometimes you can see them (and the sound is not bad! However, the sustain is only not very long) So the bell epoch of the twentieth century in the Soviet Union is very interesting and multifaceted in the study!! (this is a short comment!)
