when I first heard this song while in Toronto where it got lots of airplay, I would have never guessed it was a Genesis song! but later got into the groove and fets how good it is and gave Ray a good chance to present a new genesis era..too bad it did not last long.

@emiel4sma Nir is great for me, just check The Dividing Line - doing great solo there. He plays straight but with power.

The reason Nir.Z and Anthony Drennan played that tour was because Chester and Darryl where on tour with Phil Collins at the time so they could not commit to the tour plus they had played on the album so they have a right to play it live

I think we should stop comparing Ray with Phil. Ray only did an album with Genesis and a one year tour with probably 40 gigs, and how can we judge a singer when he stayed such a short period with a band? Maybe if he did another album or the tour were longer, then we could say something.
But If you say that Ray can't sing,I may have to disagree with you, If he couldent sing then how did he joined them?

I get bringing Ray Wilson to replace Phil Collins, but I never was sure why Banks & Rutherford tried to reconstitute Genesis with Anthony Drennan, and Nir Z. Did they think that younger faces might appeal to a younger audience? Darryl Sturmerer and Chester Thompson were established as Genesis road band. This lineup was just strange to me. Ray Wilson did a decent job, but his oddly vague resemblance to Bono may have been the key to getting the job. No one was buying it. An odd last chapter.

Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford made a big mistake when they thought they could carry on with Genesis after Phil Collins left. They suddenly found themselves without a singer, a drummer and a lead guitarist/ bassist on the road. In other words, they ended up with a totally new line-up, a new band. By using the name Genesis, they were doomed to fail, the expectations were unrealistic. They should have used another name. Otherwise the music is good, but that's not Genesis.
