A stunning piece of music, literally, and the power, even ferocity,certainly the incision of the renowned Richter is surely a sound choice for the fifth man in its execution. The Borodin, with all their burning cohesion and brilliance are no less a force to be reckoned with. The tensions and contrasts in the composition, are extraordinary, extreme, as in crisis: a pleading by melody, beautiful yet ill at ease, then a fantasy of triumph turns into nightmare where hope is hammered into hell, until the cycle re-occurs. A profoundly difficult yet vital work unless the sentiments have been experienced directly, surely.
Feels like nothing more can be said or done after listening to this. Sheer perfection.

Die bildhübsche junge Dame, die das Umblättern perfekt meisterte, bietet uns einen besonderen ästhetischen Genuß. Sie läßt uns die Mängel bei der Ton- und Bildqualität komplett vergessen. Dafür einen Extra-Daumen noch oben!

Incredibly powerful piece. This is both a prelude and an encore piece
THEY (thank God!) know the proper tempo of Movt. III. Unlike some other groups who think it's an opportunity to show how fast they can play. Totally ruins it.

@@rasitalpatasoy3866 Someone commented on the link you shared that Shosty himself played it a different tempo after he first wrote it. Dunno if that was a change in his perspective or experimental, but gives ideas for different tempo interpretations.

@2Doppel8 It might be better if it was released as a commercial dvd or something. Or if I were a millionare to have bought it from the TV&Radio Archieves at the commercial price ~ 50$ per minute for quality reasons. But not necessarely
Shostakovich takes such liberty with the force and tonality of the piano in conjunction and contrast to the strings and Richter is so at home in interpreting his unique and apparently emotionally forceful and tortured intentions. Such pathos.
We are attempting this very quintet, and am monitoring viola phrasing while tracking the score. Lost the pattern when it skipped. Otherwise very informational.

Don't know why this recording sounds so overdriven in the microphone department. I love Gould's version of this piece, much more serene.

Τον Οχτώβρη μαζί με τους Τίχον Χρένικοφ, Ντμίτρι Καπαλέφσκι, Φικρέτ Αμίροφ, Κονσταντίν Ντάνκεβιτς και Μπορίς Γιαρουστόφσκι έκαναν μια εκτεταμένη περιοδεία στις ΗΠΑ.
