    There is in fact a very clear distinction here. Eurostar tickets start at £29 each way, you paid £123. Having used this train plenty of times in my life I've literally never been delayed, let alone stuck under the channel for 15 mins. You used BA, a more reliable, but significantly more expensive airline, while most people would use Ryanair or Easyjet, both of whom are often late or cancelled, and take you to airports further out than CDG. The train would be the clear winner for comfort, time and usually money, not to mention the obscene difference in carbon footprint.

    It’s a lot more convenient to travel by train, to be honest. If you are going from London to Paris, as shown in this video, taking into account that the average person does not have VIP access and has to wait for security, checking in/out, boarding, travel time from the airport to the city center in both destinations, etc. the train is much more efficient, as the stations are right in the middle of the city, boarding is a lot more easier and you can move around the train.

      yeah the only way the train wins is if you have a lot of bags. But I wonder, don't you have to check all those bags on a train too? I never travel with a lot of luggage so I wouldn't know...but I have traveled on trains here in the USA many times and I know you don't have a lot of room for bags there either. It's like an airplane but with no overhead bin for luggage.
      You can get a "sleeper car" where you have a little bedroom to yourself where you could take a lot of bags I guess. But Amtrak also has checked bags so if you have to go through a line for baggage on the train too it defeats the advantage.

      @You can eat in class!!
      Even with the normal security line it doesn't take two hours to get through it dude. Maybe 15-20 minutes.
      As a frequent traveler I definitely use CLEAR to bypass the main line.
      Either way, if when your turn comes up, it takes more than five minutes for you to get screened you're doing something wrong.
      The new screening machines that are being deployed worldwide will make it even faster, as you will not have to remove anything from your bag or remove your shoes.
      In Europe these wheel on rail HSR implementations make a lot more sense as public transit because Europe is a LOT denser than we are over here in USA/Canada/Australia. The distance is simply too great over here.
      In Europe it's common to have major cities less than 200 miles apart, because they became major cities back when people got around on foot and horseback, and 200 miles was a vast distance. Whereas the USA/Canada/Australia are young countries with population centers much farther apart.
      The population density in the UK is 300 people per square kilometer. In the USA that figure is 30. So just based on that, it should be obvious why HSR doesn't make nearly as much sense here as it does in Europe.

      @@neutrino78x whether high speed trains make sense in the US is completely irrelevant when talking about the Eurostar (while it's true that it would be impractical in the middle of America there are definitely major cities about the right distance from eachother to make sense on the train like along the coasts and in Texas) but besides it's just wise to arrive 2 hours before the flight leaves and most people don't have any sort of VIP security, because you never know what could throw a spanner in the works (long queues, traffic or train/bus delays etc)

      @@grassytramtracks Two hours is way too early. I'll get there 30-60 min early at most. Security doesn't take an hour especially if you use clear or tsa precheck.
      Eurostar is way too slow for MOST intercity in usa. Yes there are certain regions like the NEC but only three or four like that (really the NEC is the only one) and you still have to fly to get from one to the other so it's a waste of money here. That's why we don't do it. Same for ccanada and Australia and new Zealand and other places.
