One of the best lessons I learned was watching a coworker handle a budget. She knew her limits and stayed within them, and she fearlessly bought things (like salmon) when there was money in the budget. She knew how to balance things.
What you saved in taxes, paid for the salmon-win,win 🙌🏻
Brooke, you never have to explain buying a treat no matter the cost. I really love watching you. My favorite TV time
Love seeing a family-save together!!! Bringing them up right!!!
Thank you for talking about separate envelope savings for snacks & bulk food buys. Most don't live within their means, but you show how we can do better!!
It just blows my mind at how high groceries are. That certainly doesn't look like $500 worth even if it is larger quantities. I'm so glad you teach us how to cook cheap but yummy meals because I truly believe we're all gonna need your recipes very soon 😢
Of course you give your kids snacks, if you have the means! We got occasional treats as kids, why shouldn’t your kids have some? Most people consider soda and chips as part of their grocery budget and wonder why they are in debt. You are wise to consider them extras and save up for it. You’re a great role model. That salmon looks delicious! Treat yourself! We all deserve a treat occasionally!
It still shocks me on how food is so expensive. For $500 you use to be able to walk out of the store with multiple buggies full of supplies. I went into sams the other day and 8 items was $150. It’s ridiculous.
When I was a young adult I found out my family does snacks very differently due to my pap being Italian. Told my partner at the time I was gonna get a snack, I walk back in with a couple thin slices of cheese, some salami, carrot sticks I’d cut up, crackers, and some fruit on a little plate. He goes “that’s a meal” I’m like “no this is a snack”
To him snacks were only junk food, I grew up in a family where we would eat summer meals of just one or two kinds of the current fresh produce. Chips and actual junk food are a heck of a luxury.
Yes! That’s a healthy snack! We used to dip our bread into Mom’s marinara before dinner as a quick snack as we smell our dinner cooking!
I am glad you got the salmon. Yes its expensive. But you do so many frugal meals you all deserve a treat and its healthy too.
I’m 67 years old and I’m team snacks🙂. You let those lovely boys have what they want.
Your family is blessed to have you. Those who criticize are just jealous. They need to remove the ‘stick’ and enjoy life. Great Job!
The "Snack Police" have WAY too much time on their hands ....🙄
You are literally the only person who is actually adorable saying SALmon. 🥰 Love your southern accent.
I recommend this to everyone! Next time you go to Costco, get the citrus, lemon, honey and ginger tea. It's in a jar (not tea bags). Shout out to "Our Alaska Life". Lauren got me hooked on it. I haven't had the sore throat, chest cold yet this year but we all know winter is coming. I'm gonna swear by this ahead of time. It's so good 👍
I like seeing dad in charge of tetris-ing the cart 😂
My family growing up did not eat in between meals. No snacking. We were short on money and my parents taught discipline. I appreciate it now.
Our mother had a zero snack policy. Not even homemade popcorn. For us kids anyway. W'ed stare through the front window at her enjoying her pepsi, potato chip and hershey snack while she watched her programs. Sometimes she'd add avocado and salami to her snackpile. We were skinny kids. We were forbidden to sign up for free school lunches, that would be shameful. My older brother broke ranks and signed up, we watched him go through the hot food line, with milk and a cookie too, while we stared down at our baloney sandwhich and a hard apple. We never ate those apples, straight to the trash can. I havent eaten baloney since I was 14. But anyway, Im glad she thinks about what her kids like and want.
So funny Brook! Im from MD and now in Pa. I say things like lybary, ambulance, crick not creek. I love the way you talk, no shame in an accent.
Such a smart idea on the Costco/Sam’s envelope!!! And keeping a separate snack envelope! Brilliant!
How amazing your boys think salmon is a treat! Love it. It’s so healthy and I hope you can find it in your frugal little heart to splurge for them more often! After all, it works out to about $4.00 a person. I also love that you are not snack freaks but have them once in a while. You feed your family so well that a few snacks aren’t going to hurt them. Really enjoy watching your vlogs and family. ❤️🇨🇦
Brooke I love how the whole family works together.
Your approach to Cosco is so smart. Saving up and going less often is the way we do our trips to Sam's club too.
You had me cracking up about the way you say Salmon. ; )
That meal was actually cheaper than fast food at Wendy's or BK I bet. And what a great treat meal.
I loved the dancing too.
Blessings to you and yours
Brooke, you're awesome and you DO NOT need to explain to anyone about your snacks meals food ANYTHING...❤
You have great kids. They don’t appear to be deprived of anything.
I always suggest to the people in my frugal Facebook group that they set a little aside for clearance, sales, stock up items that are not in our usual grocery shop. I love me some good snacks
Brooke: I worked to hard on that! Also Brooke: He dont know that was my easy meal...shhhh lol You crack me up!
Haha you know all of us who have a husband/partner and kids can totally relate 😂
The reason rice is not going to be available in abundance for another year is because the rice crops in India and Pakistan where flooded so they had to keep all the rice they had for themselves, therefore all exports have been suspended for now. Love your videos 😊
I'm frugal on most things so I can splurge every once in a while.
You've got 3 growing boys so that price doesn't shock me. Thanks again for sharing. 😊
@SouthernFrugalMomma Could you do a video on your budgeting envelopes? I use the envelope system too and am always looking for new ideas. It would also help people who don’t know about it.
Love your teaching. The amount of money, and the number of Hugh Bags of what I consider unnecessary Snacks. Usually in the name of "healthy" or "cravings". Unfortunately the Club Bags are bigger, but the price point on every item walking out the door makes each bag very expensive. Your choices were very frugal I thought, considering you only go 3-4 times a year for a stock up. I liked the way you included long term storage items, to keep that pantry stocked. By the way, taking the 4 of you out for a Salmon Dinner would have cost about $100.00, if you could even have done it for that. Note to your viewers who do not yet know you, correcting ADULTS on their speech is very rude and shows lack of respect. I am commenting on this because it seems to be rampant on CZcams. Great video❤😅❤😊
Loved every moment! Cannot wait for a pantry tour, Brooke. Made my day brighter. Thank you, Southerland Squad for sharing and may you be blessed always! xoxo
I snd all my kin say salmon it's an Appalachia language. I love our way of talking. Great cosco haul.
I love the way your boys gather all the heavier items for you! When picking watermelon look for the bee stings! Thank you for sharing your life with us!
I heard that having a bit of a brownish color in the yellowish color on a watermelon is a sweet and juicy watermelon. When I purchased my last watermelon, I used this information and it was very sweet and delicious.
Happy birthday handsome! ❤🎉 You are special, you are appreciated, you have an incredible reason for being here, you are deeply loved, and nothing is too big for you to dream! Thank you Lee Asher for existing!
I love that you do the envelope system and even more that you have a Costco/Sams envelope 🥰
Fun trip to Costco! Yes, the salmon is a treat, but think of the price to take the whole family out for a seafood dinner. You found a way to "splurge", but still stay in budget - perfect!
So smart to have emergency food storage! Glad you get stocked up!
Brayden "danced" 🎉🎉🎉 Made me smile seeing the boys dance
I only just discovered your channel, but I’ve already fallen in love with your family. Your boys are the best. I love that your recipes are actually frugal!
I’ve worked for Costco for a while now. Prices are going up and we do have shortages on things. Rice is becoming a problem. Get your rice now people!
Those rice bowls are great btw. Brought a box of them on vacation with us. The grandkids loved having their own bowl and adding whatever they wanted to it. We brought canned chili, bags of shredded cheese.. things like that. I even at a bowl for breakfast with sugar and cinnamon. So great to travel with.
I pay taxes in all states as part of my job. You're savings in TN on your haul today was definitely closer to $50. $48 and change. Worth saving the big hauls during a tax-free period.
The thing about pronouncing the salmon is funny because Spanish is my first language and I automatically pronounce the salmon because of how it’s pronounced in Spanish. But seriously, you do you! 😊 Also, thank you so much for your videos. I’ve learned so much from you. You’ve majorly inspired my cooking and financial literacy. It never would’ve occurred to me to save for a Costco or Sam’s haul. Absolutely brilliant! ❤ Blessings to you and your family!
Prices are so crazy! Back in the ‘90’s, I fed our family of six for $50 a week including fixings for their sack lunches.
You are a total HOOT! Much love and God Bless!
You don't need to justify buying the salmon. Had you gone out and everyone had a salmon dinner you would of exceeded $100 I'm sure for all of you to eat. I buy salmon when i find it for a good price and stock up on it. I justify it to myself like you do but in all reality i save money on everything I buy. I seldomly pay full price with the exception of Dollar Tree. Which I do get a good amount of items for meals from. Your food always looks so delicious. Thanks for sharing your trip today and your haul.
Love watching you…love your content…you dont owe explanations on how or why you do what you do…you are an inspiration
Angel girl,India stopped selling Rice to us, they're taking care of their own first
Your kids dancing around in the Isle was super Awesome ❤
Brooke you are an amazing mother and role model. I feel like I went wrong somewhere, because my teen boys are snack junkies! I swear sometimes I think they are actually hobbits…
A Hobbit’s Meal Schedule:
Breakfast - 7 a.m.
Second Breakfast - 9 a.m.
Elevenses - 11 a.m.
Luncheon - 1 p.m.
Afternoon Tea - 3 p.m.
Dinner - 6 p.m.
Supper - 9 p.m.
A feel like all they do is eat/snack. I have to tell my 15 year old to stop eating snacks around 4 pm, so he’ll eat dinner.😂
Awesome video! The one thing that I NEVER purchase is garbage bags. To me, garbage bags are bags of money to be thrown in the garage. I use the normal plastic bags from the weekly grocery haul for all of our trash/garbage. Peace and blessings.
It’s ok you are southern you have an accent that is so cute.
You are the best! You make me smile! Thank you!
Oklahoma taxes food too but no tax free periods. They did have a tax free weekend for clothing and shoes less than $100 before school.
I check almost every day to see if you post. I love you and your family. God Bless.
Great video. 😁❤️🌹
i have a snack drawer and my grandkids know right where to go...lol
Omg, your self rant about how you were saying sa-mon (lol, i just remove the L) had me laughing so hard, cuz you dont know how much I wanted to correct you - riot! Forgive me, its the New York in me. I love that you call yourself to carpet when you know something's not right or you're doing it wrong. Brooke, you channel is becoming one of my Favs (and i only found it about 5-7 days ago !) Love that you refer to Dusty as, was it Boo?! Adorable ❤
I love the way you pronounce things 😊
I love your natural hair ❤- also Dusty’s OCD with the cart items 😂
Oh lord every time he’s shopping with me, he packs it like it’s a job lol
My husband has to put all the
UPC codes facing up. God help me if I just throw an item in the cart. 😂
Can you please review those Skippy Wafers in a video please, they look great.
I love Costco and Sam’s paper towels and toilet paper
You’re adorable. 😂Love your videos.
Good Morning ❤
I enjoy watching your helpful videos
Thanks for the idea of envelope/sinking fund for Costco...we have for other things, but didn't think about Costco. On the topic of snacks, seems like you catch it both ways, so darned if you do, darned if you don't.
Love your videos!!❤❤❤
How do I say salmon? Delicious! I looked up the asterisk on the Costco sign. Thanks for the clue!
Just wanted to say hi! I've seen your first video and now one of your latest and you have really let your personality show through. You seem much more at ease with filming and I just wanted you to know I like you and your family and enjoy watching. I've learned a lot and keep on learning. Don't let anybody change you. Your sister is just as nice. I'm not too far away from you . I'm in Virginia. Just keep up the good work!!!! I'm a Pioneer woman fan too!!! I notice things! lol I have a collection of her kitchen stuff too.
I'm from North East Mississippi. In the south is sallll-man! Lol. I love your accent, don't change it.
That's ok about the salmon. I call mushrooms marshmallows all the time. I have to really think about it to say it right. Lol!
Ooh, salmon! My husband could eat it everyday and never complain. It is actually good for his rheumatoid arthritis.
Hehe love it! Too cute!x🇬🇧😍🇬🇧
I bought miso paste and made miso soup. I cut up those seaweed snacks in the soup and sometimes add egg for egg drop soup or chopped water chestnuts and sliced green onion. It's great if you have a little bit of leftover meat but not enough for everyone, just add to the miso soup. Miso soup is very filling and good for you. You can even add rice noodles to make it even more filling.
I don't know if you guys use the little bags of Doritos but right now rite aid has 10 packs for 599 and when you buy two you get back $3 in rite aid money. Make some come out to 4.49 each 10pk. That's a pretty good deal with something you buy already which I do because my nephew pax's lunch for school everyday. We don't have a Costco around here. I think the closest one is over an hour away.
❤thank you so much ❤
Love you guys. Glad you enjoyed the "samon'" !!!
Thank you for sharing your sweet family with us. Oh, and I can’t leave the L out of saLmon. It’s a southern thing.
You are brilliant! Great video!
Great haul!
Nice haul, yum on the salmon! I need to go to Sam's Club, but I DREAD going!
Awesome Costco haul !!
Great haul!!! 😊❤ I love your channel, you keep it real. ❤
I’m 50+ and still buy snacks. Those Funyuns are 6.00 here in Maryland!
AMEN
Good morning happy family! ❤
Awesome video, thanks Brooke 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
I love watching your videos.
Y’all are so cute! The salmon looks delicious.
Pantry tour yeah!
It's okay to let your children have a snack if they want a snack
Depends on the kids. Healthy snacks as needed. Junk food as determined by parent. My DIL allows the kids to fill up on junk before meals, then complains the kids won't eat & food is wasted 😬
Brooke I just found your Channel you go girl you are terrific thanks for sharing with us thanks for those great recipes have a great day
Amen girl we need our SNACK ! Great video ❤
I enjoyed this video. Your family is entertaining...lol
Nice haul! You did a great job! I love salmon! Dinner should be great !
Would love to see what meals you make out of the canned pulled pork.
I enjoy your channel!!
Those boys are so funny and sweet!!
Your family is beautiful! I enjoy seeing
Your recipes and cooking videos that are budget friendly!
The salmon looks amazing!! Great haul. Have a blessed weekend 🙏
I would be so happy dancing and shopping at Costco Love your family videos Brooke That was a great grocery haul from Costco. And yes snacks are needed.
Youthful exuberance ☺️☺️
I would love a pantry tour!
Whatever you buy and however you pronounce salmon is good with me. Love watching you and your family!
You don't owe anyone an explanation of your snacks.
It's your money, your kids, your business.
I do like that you explained how you save up for big purchases.
I would love more budget content.
